I went to them because they were highly recommended and I am disatisfied.
Description of Work: I have them come out to fill up my freon. The first time they came out, he service man showed me that the original weight was 36 lbs. It took him 45 minutes to fill up ½ lb. He told me if anyone came out for them to show me how much was in the bottle prior and how much is in after the bottle afterwards. I paid him $84. I had them come out again to do a refill. It took the second service man 5 minutes to fill up 6 lbs. He first told me that the freon weighed 10 lbs and then said 16 lbs. I asked him to show me on the scale how much was in coming out of the bottle because I just wanted to make sure how much was in the bottle now. He refused to do so and was angered at my request. I offered to pay him for the service and he would not give me the bill. He also said he would not be doing business with me again.

Tom's Mechanical was called to the customer's home once, not twice. The unit was not performing when our technician arrived and he found that it was 6 pounds low on refrigerant, a considerable amount. He added the refrigerant and the system was performing when the customer became belligerent and profane. As is our policy, he pulled off the call and "no charged' the invoice to avoid a difficult situation. Our service technician on this call was Josh Wallace, an 11 year employee with an outstanding reputation for honesty and outstanding customer service. We strive to satisfy all customers and are almost always successful. We are sorry that he found our service to be unsatisfactory.

Overall, it was excellent.
Description of Work: I'm pretty handy around the house, but I know NOTHING about heating and a/c, except that every experience, prior to using Tom's Mechanical, has been unpleasant and expensive. Not only were the mechanics punctual (same-day-service, I called on the 10/03/2011), they were professional and did the work very quickly. I could not be more pleased with the service and the price. I highly recommend them!

They were very prompt. The unit went out and we were having very high heat of about hundred degrees outside and my candles inside melted. This went out on a weekend and they did come out to check. They told me what was wrong but they did the install during the week which I totally understood. They got everything setup and arranged to have my installation done on a Wednesday morning. Within 48 hours they came out and put in the new air conditioning unit. They removed all of the previous air conditioning cords outside and inside. They were very professional. They had to remove part of my fence to get the air conditioning unit into the back patio area. Their price was fair. The guys that came out to do the repair told me everything they were doing and how long it would take for it to cool down. They were dressed in work clothes naturally but they were dressed very professionally and they were very polite.

Went great, the two technicians did a great job, contained any mess they made and cleaned up after themselves. I was a little concerned with the airflow to the side of the house opposite the AC unit a few days after installation, and Brian came out and made a few adjustments with the air flow balance, took about 15 minutes, and it's working perfectly. Couldn't be happier with the price, the results and the way the guys did the work. Great job.

the service technician was very knowledgeable and did an excellent job. He explained what he was doing and why. He came back on time and finished the job in the estimated time. He cleaned up after he was finished and was careful of my wood floors.

Our air conditioner had stopped working on a Sunday morning. I made the call to several companies before checking Angies list. Once on Angies List I found Toms Mechanical and made the call. I left a voice mail and Eric (tech) called me back within 10 minutes. He was on another job in Dallas and told me that he would be able to be at my house within the hour. I live in Arlington, so it is a good 45 minute drive. Sure enough he showed up like he said and was very professional looking. He talked with my husband about our system and went to check it out. He worked quickly and let us know the situation. He was able to fix our a/c and get it working better than before all in about 45 minutes. It was a very good experience and I will call them again if I need this type of service. (Note: After Eric left and we were cooling our house down, I received only 1 phone call from one of the other companies I had called that was NOT on Angies List.)

1. Called them Monday 6/27 first thing, as my current unit (upstairs) was not cooling properly 2. They called me back Tuesday 6/28 first thing, apologized for not calling Monday, and sent a technician, Jimmy, out first thing 3. Jimmy diagnosed the system, and didn't mind me shadowing him (I like to learn everything I can) 4. While he wasn't absolutely certain what was going on with the system (strange issue on the compressor not drawing the proper electrical load but not cooling either), consulted with Brian over the phone and determined after check capacitor, other components, that it must be the compressor 5. I knew the air handler was 18 years old, had not been maintained by previous owners, and been told by 3 other service type companies that it was on its last legs (rusted out), I had milked it for 2 more years. 6. Given the option of replacing the compressor for $2000 or whole system. Jimmy had some pricing, but wanted me to talk to Brian or Andy for specifics on pricing. 7. Andy got back to me within the hour and went through the various options based on my system specifics (square footage of house plus 2 units), electric bill, and some other variables. 8. Although he could have pushed for a more expensive system, based on the information we had discussed, he recommended a less expensive system 9. Scheduled the job for Friday. 10. George and Justin showed up promptly at 8 am and had the system up and running by 3 pm.

The outage happened on a Saturday afternoon, and I knew there would be a premium to have someone to come out. Although there was a premium, I thought it was reasonable, and was less than a few other companies I had contacted. Myrle couldn't make it out on Saturday, but scheduled me for an appointment Sunday, and arrived within the timeframe of the appointment. Myrle was polite and professional, worked quickly and explained what I needed.
Description of Work: My a/c unit was blowing air, but not cold air. Myrle arrived, checked my outdoor unit, and advised that I needed a compressor cap. He quoted the price, and after I agreed, he replaced it.

They were very punctual in showing up. The gentleman explained what he felt the problem was and how he determined it. He had a device with him that confirmed his suspicion. The complete story was described previously.
Description of Work: The air conditioning problem was that the unit ran all the time and did not cool. The technician found out that a pet was in the house and immediately took the cover off the evaporator coil and pulled out some cat hair. He charged $70.00 for this procedure. He had another procedure to clean the evaporator coil using using chemical spray at a cost of over $200.00. I could not afford that procedure. The technician did not check the thermostat. The technician did not check the electrical on the upflow furnace. On the outside condensing unit, the technician did not even remove the cover to see if the unit needed cleaning on the inside, and did not check any of the electrical. The technician said he checked the freon and it did not need any. The unit had not been serviced in 3 or 4 years, although it has cooled ok prior to this service call. The technician was paid a diagnostic fee and a repair charge and nothing is any different. The company service manager was contacted and he did not want to come out again without a further charge. He had no opinion on the service tasks that the technician did not perform. I will not ever use this company again, nor will any of my friends and family. It is a rip off!

We regret that the member was unhappy with our service and have issued a full refund. However, we strongly disagree with the facts as presented. Our service technician spent 1 3/4 hours performing a full diagnosis of the system and found that the evaporator was very clogged with pet hair. He performed a minor cleaning of the coil and recommended that a more thorough cleaning be done. The customer declined the additional work. It is not surprising that the unit is not operating properly with a very dirty evaporator coil. If we had been allowed to clean the coil we believe the system would be cooling as expected.

My secondary pan had water in it. He said my plumbing was clogged and could not repair that part. I would need to call a plumber. I looked at the line it was running uphill. I informed him of this but he chose to restate his position. I felt like I was dealing with someone without a real interest in solving my problem. The next day I cut the drain line and rearranged it so it would drain downhill (Something he should have done). It now works properly.
Description of Work: I contracted with them to do two check-ups Spring and Fall. He supposedly cleaned the outside units and check the inside units.

Overall, the experience was wonderful. The price was reasonable; it was actually better than some quotes that I had received. Brian, the salesman, came out and did more measurements and calculations more than any other salesmanto make sure I had the correct ones. Because he did that, I was able to get a smaller unit, which saved me some money. I'm happy with their services and I would highly recommend them to others (and I already have).

This is my second experience with this company. By itself, that should say something. In both instances, we were experiencing A/C malfunctions. The first time, cold air was not reaching the back of the house. This time, the air was circulating properly, but the air itself wasn't cold. Obviously, two different problems, so it was not as though they had to return to fix something they repaired earlier. They quickly and thoroughly analyzed the problem, identified it's source, and determined how to resolve it. And, in both instances, the fixes were fairly simple and relatively inexpensive. Moreover, they were thoroughly professional and polite. Would I use them again? Yes. In fact, in addition to paying for the repair service, I purchased a maintenance contract by which they will come out twice a year to do regular maintenance work on our A/C system. The price was reasonable ($115.00) for two visits, and a good value considering all they do for that amount and the projected cost savings from early detection of any other problems. Can't recommend them enough.

Awoke on a Sunday morning to a hissing sound coming from compressor. Called 24 hour service number. They arrived an hour later and spent 2 hours finding, repairing and refilling freon leak. I have used this company several times over the years (in part because they are 1 of 2 Trane approved companies to service Trane warranties). Have had no problems since and everything ended up being covered under my warranty. I highly recommend them.

I called Tom's Mechanical based on reviews on Angies List. Brian Lackey came out on Sept 8 to give us an estimate to replace the plenum and duct connections. As our A/C unit was under an extended warranty with Sear's, we decided to wait until Sear's could inspect the unit. After 3 no-shows with Sears, they finally came out to inspect the unit. Since the plenum was not under the warranty, I didn't want Sears to do any additional work I scheduled the appointment with Tom's to come out on September 16th. They arrived promptly with the work completed within a couple of hours. They placed a tarp under the attic stairs to catch any debris and protected the carpet. As soon as our contract is up with Sear's, we will be using Tom's Mechanical for the A/C & Heating maintenance.

Right on the heels of my previous air conditioning problem, the 100? weather brought out another failure in my outside compressor, where the fan started squealing. I recognize the noise as being bad bearings in the motor, another expensive repair. I called Tom's and they were able to send someone out the next day. This is why I like them: Good response. Jimmy arrived to look at my unit, and confirmed that the fan motor was leaking oil and would not last much longer. Unfortunately the part orders sometimes take a few days, but that wasn't too worrisome since the unit still functioned and cooled the house. Even though I had been estimated that it could take 2-5 days for the part to arrive, the part actually arrived later that same day. In fact, Jimmy came back out that evening to install the part. It was expensive, but at least I have some peace of mind, that a known expensive part has been recently replaced, and it at least has a 90 day warranty on it. Let's hope I make it through the summer.

During a particularly hot 100? day, my downstairs heat pump stopped cooling the house. A call in to Tom's got me on the calendar for a service call the next day. Doubtless the hot weather was causing problems for everyone, and keeping them very busy. So the next day, my friend Woody arrived to see what the problem was. The outside unit wouldn't turn on at all, and it didn't take long for him to find that the startup capacitor had blown, killed by years of heat no doubt. He had a replacement handy, and was able to replace it easily and had me going again in short order. Replacement parts for air conditioners sure are expensive, though. Sigh.

Strangely, only a day or two after completing a repair on the upstairs air conditioner blower, water began to drip down from the ceiling underneath it (luckily, into the bathroom where it didn't cause any damage). The problem turned out to be that the drain connected to the unit's drip pan had clogged up, so when the unit ran overtime to cool down the hot house, the condensation overflowed the drip pan and fell down below. The technician (sorry, didn't catch his name) used compressed air to blow out the drain, and then did some refitting of the hoses to try to make a better connection that hopefully wouldn't develop this problem in the future. I'm surprised by the rash of A/C related problems I've been having in such a short time, but I can't really draw any correlation between them. I'm just happy that Tom's Mechanical is able to fix them quickly for me.
