The overall experience was very satisfactory and we would recommend this company again.
Description of Work: We contracted for four hours of dry wall repair for $200 offered as an Angie's list special, but used only three hours of time due to the lateness of the work performed. Our initial appointment was set for time a week away, but was never honored as the contractor then used by the company was in transit to a job location when he talked with us to set up an appointment but forgot to record the appointment with the company. When the appointment time came and no one showed up, I called the company and spoke with the owner/operator who said that his company was undergoing restructuring and that he would find someone available to come later that same day. Two men came who were professional, efficient and produced a very pleasing tape and bedding result ready for painting.

We purchased the exterior painting coupon back in May 2012 when we bought our home. I contacted Mark through their website to go about the painting and he was quite helpful in getting us to talk to the HOA and getting the paint matched. We contacted our HOA and got the requirements and found the colour of the exterior from the previous owner. Mark had asked us to get it matched from Kelly Moore and we went down to Kelly Moore to get the paint matched. Our HOA had mentioned that they wanted Monarch Alkyd Enamel on the exterior. We confirmed that the previous owner had alkyd on the paint sample he left behind. We then went ahead and scheduled an appointment with Sun painting and Autumn from Sun painting came over. The meeting went smooth and she took a look around the home and mentioned that except for downspouts and gutters everything else will be covered. We had to pay 525 extra for painting three of our garage doors and 4 interior doors and the trim of another door. Additionally, 100$ would be charged for the extra height. I confirmed with her that Kelly Moore alkyd enamel paint will be used because that was an HOA requirement. She said, Of course that is the paint that we will use. The mistake that I made was not getting in writing about the alkyd enamel paint. When it came to scheduling the painting job, we got a date a few months later of September 2012 and it was surprising but I figured that was fine since they would have many people who have scheduled the painting jobs. She mentioned it would take two days since our home is large although most of the exterior is brick. We blocked the dates of 19th and 20th september 2012 for the painting. The scheduling was fine and we did not have issues with the initial estimate either. Angies list rating of A was also something that we liked. Jose's painting, the subcontractors they used came down an hour before the scheduled time of 9:20 AM which was a surprise but well the work started off earlier. Jose whom I talked to walked around the home and suggested getting the downspouts and gutters done and mentioned that it would look out of place not to get the gutter and downspouts done and have new paint everywhere else. We got an estimate of 315 dollars and I feel that it was on the higher end. I gave Jose the paint sample for the Alkyd Enamel that we got matched from Kelly Moore. That was when he told me that he wont use alkyd enamel but latex and looked around the home and said that what was on there was was latex which was surprising since the leftover paint by the previous owners was alkyd. In any case, I told him that I had spoken to Autumn regarding the HOA requirements of using alkyd enamel and she had told us that was what they would use. Jose mentioned that he would have to use a primer if he had to use alkyd enamel. As far as I was concerned, Sun painting had come down had told me they would use alkyd enamel as per the HOA requirement. Jose calls sun painting and he tells me they are asking for around 450 dollars extra if I wanted alkyd enamel. That really upset me since what was originally agreed upon was alkyd enamel. I asked to speak to Sun painting and spoke to the owner Mark who mentioned that latex is a better paint and he was sure that the HOA wont have an issue. He also guaranteed that if the HOA came back he would repaint the home with alkyd enamel paint at no cost. Furthermore, he apologised and said his representative must have misunderstood. I spoke to my husband who told me that we needed to get this in writing. I called Sun painting and asked to speak to Mark. However, Ann picked up the call and told me that Mark was not available and transferred me to Autumn and I explained that I wanted a written guarantee about the painting with alkyd enamel being done free of charge if the HOA came back with a problem. I also told her that I had specifically mentioned the HOA requirements to her and she had told me that as the paint they would use. She immediately said No, I did not say that and if I knew it I would have told you latex is the better quality and she looked up her notes and said she does not have it in her notes so she would not have said it. This was upsetting because I had confirmed with her and I realised how important it was to have it in writing. I told her that I wanted the guarantee of Sun painting repainting our home free of cost in case of any issues with HOA should be in writing otherwise tomorrow I will have a similar response and quot; It is not in our notes, we did not tell you thatand quot;. There was no acknowledgement that it was a misunderstanding or an apology either. She spoke with Mark and sent me an email with the guarantee. She also asked how the painting was going which was nice of her. Jose and his group of painters were polite and did their work. They did minor caulking and I can't say they did perfect work. There were instances of peeling paint but when I pointed it out, they corrected it. I dont know how many layers of paint they put on. If it is just a single layer, I don't know how long that will last. Since Sun painting has given a warranty for three years hopefully we will be good. They powerwashed the areas to be painted and were kind enough to replace a light bulb that was not working which was high up. They painted everything and were done at the end of the day. Overall, I think the misunderstanding about the alkyd enamel paint could have been avoided if Autumn had listened carefully. We would have gone to the HOA and argued with them or gone ahead with the alkyd enamel paint if nothing worked out. I also think their price on the down spouts and gutters and doors was a little costly. We went for our interior painting with another painter whose work I wasn't too happy with. I liked Sun painting's work better. I am happy with Mark and the way he helped me through the initial process of getting the paint of the exterior and getting it matched and also towards the end the way he acknowledged that there had been a misunderstanding and advised me about how latex was better and offered to speak to HOA. He also guaranteed that he would paint the exterior free of charge in case of an issue with the HOA. The painters did a decent job, not the best, but much much better than what our interior painters had done. They also cleaned up the places where the paint was spilt on the windows. More importantly, they were nice and polite and I had not problems dealing with them. Ann and Annie were quite nice about scheduling and leaving messages and getting things done. I wish Autumn had handled things differently. I got the impression that she did not care and was just concerned about how she could not have done something. At her response, we were quite upset and we were even willing to stall the painting because it was unethical to assure someone about a paint being used and then go back on that. It also shows that it is important to tell the customers that latex paint will be used. If she had mentioned latex, I would pressed more about the alkyd enamel. Would I use Sun painting again? Probably, but I would be more careful in getting everything in writing and not trust the words of the representative at all. Mark handled the situation really well which is the saving grace along with his painters. Had it not have been for the way Autumn responded to our concerns and the fact that she did not listen carefully enough during the first meeting about the HOA requirements of alkyd enamel, I would have given an A rating to Sun painting.
Description of Work: We purchased an Angie's list coupon for exterior painting for 1299$ back in May. They charged us 100 dollars extra for the 2 story home height and 525 dollars to paint 4 doors and the trim of the font door. Additionally they charged us 315 dollars to paint the downspouts which were 7 in number half of which where shorter than the others. The paint that they used was Kelly Moore and the latex version.

Overall it was a very good experience with one exception--they left two trash bags full of plastic sheeting and tape (which they normally do However, the bags also contained food scraps from their chicken lunches. They did not tell us the bags were outside the garages so the dogs or wild animals scattered trash in our and the neighbors yard. Unfortunately, it fell to our cleaning girl to clean up the mess the next morning.
Description of Work: The crew consisted of four men and one woman. Although they arrived about an hour and a half later than expected, they did call at the expected arrival time to tell me they were caught in traffic. Because neither my husband or I were physically able to clear things off the patio, the crew took care of everything which was appreciated. They worked until the job was completed that evening on a day where temps reached 104 degrees.

On the evening of 4 Sept 2012, I signed up for Angie’s List and e-mailed five contractors—2 paint, 2 carpet, and 1 wood floor refinisher. The next morning, Autumn from Sun Painting called my work number, and we set up an estimate appointment on 11 Sept at noon. Autumn took my address and cell phone number. At the scheduled day and time, nobody showed up or called. On 12 Sept, I called the company and Annie verified that there was a missed appointment and apologized. At that time, she offered a 15:00 appointment for that day, but I could not leave work. The next available time available was 18 Sept which is not practical, so I thanked her and said I would make other arrangements. A few minutes later, Annie called to tell me that Autumn had a cancellation and would be available on 12 Sept at 17:30. Perfect because I had another painting company scheduled for the same time, so I was already going to be there. Surprisingly, Autumn did not arrive for the second appointment or call my cell phone. Get to work on 13 Sept and there are 2 voices mails from Autumn. First was time stamped at 12 Sept at 17:26 saying she was on my street and asking for my exact address. Second was time stamped at 12 Sept at 17:42 saying we must have missed each other, and she would be back in the neighborhood on Friday. I really do want to do business with a small, local business, but it should not be this difficult.
Description of Work: No services performed because they missed 2 appointments.

We don't have a record of the first call, but mistakes do happen. Just by reading this members time line, there is a disconnect. Autumn called 4 minutes before the appointment. I think she had the address but was perhaps confirming. She arrived at the house on time, kknocked at the door sevEral times, then called. This member didn't answer the door and didn't answer the phone. Annie called yet again and left a message. This member never responded except to write this review. We couldn't possibly have done any thing any different to improve here

from start to finish it was great -- appointments kept and schedule met
Description of Work: I had additional work that needed to be done, such as ceilings painted and drywall/plaster cracks repaired -- I was truly amazed at the quality of the work and the difference professional painters made compared to DIY. Their repair of cracks in the plaster was nothing short of masterful and amazing. I would definitely recommend this company.

I was contacted almost immediately by Autumn once I inquiried about their services. The contract took a couple more days than promised but was still provided in less than a week following the estimate. The crew showed up 2 hrs late and still had to pick up the paint which was over 30 min away. A little disappointing since I had sent the paint color over the weekend via email. While the and quot;leadand quot; went to get the paint, a single guy stayed back and began prepping. He used my bathroom without asking and went into my garage and pulled out a ladder without asking. Once the lead returned, they finished the prep work and began painting. Neither crew member spoke English very well. There were a couple of spots over the stairs where they hit the ceiling but the overall paint work was good and was quick once the prep work was done. However, I was quite surprised when about half way through they asked to use my folding ladder in order to paint the cathedral ceiling. Not sure what they would have done had I not had one. At least they asked to use the second one given they just took the first one on their own. Once complete, they took all of the trash away but proceeded to use my kichen sink to clean their brushes and rollers. So overall, the price was great, the painting was good but the conduct of the painters needs significant improvement. They should have arrived prepared with paint and with ladders. They should have asked to use my bathroom and should NOT have used my kitchen sink to clean their equipment. It would also be very helpful if at least one member of the crew spoke English fluently.
Description of Work: Painted all the walls in my dining room, kitchen and living room. Did not paint ceiling, trim or doors.

The scheduling of our job was an absolute nightmare. I'm not sure if they were overwhelmed with and quot;coupon folksand quot; or what, however we contacted Sun Painting in mid July and were told to expect a call 'soon' to schedule the job. After having to call them twice to schedule the job, work was supposed to begin on July 30th. After arranging to be off of work that day, I was contacted at 0815 by and quot;Annand quot; who informed me that the painters were stuck on a job that was carrying over from the weekend and would not be able to make it that day. The job was rescheduled for Friday, August 3rd at 0830 and I was told it would take approximately 2 1/2 days. On Friday August 3rd at 1030 - two hours after the scheduled arrival time - I placed a call to the owner of Sun Painting who informed me that and quot;there must have been a miscommunicationand quot; because no one was scheduled to come to our house that day. After pressing him, he agreed to have a crew come out late in the afternoon to begin work. At 4:15pm, two painters arrived and began prepping the house for the job. They worked until around 8:30pm and, before leaving, assured us that an additional crew would be there Saturday morning. Saturday morning came and the same two painters showed up. I asked where the rest of the crew was and was told they'd arrive around 3pm. 3pm came and still no crew. The two painters worked until around 4pm and left for the day. On Sunday morning, I placed another phone call to the owner of Sun Painting to express how displeased I was at the progress of the job. He assured me that a crew would come Monday afternoon (around 3pm) and and quot;work very lateand quot; to finish it. At this point only our master suite had been completed by the two painters that showed up on Friday and Saturday. After arranging to take yet more time off work, I was advised around lunch time Monday that no crew would be coming after all that afternoon and they'd arrive Tuesday morning instead.. Two crews showed up Tuesday morning: both the two painters that worked over the weekend, plus a crew of 8 other guys from a separate subcontractor. Shortly after both crews entered the house, an argument ensued between them and the original two painters informed me they would be leaving the job. The new crew worked all day Tuesday - staying until around 11:30pm. The job was not completely finished until Wednesday at 9pm - about a week behind schedule. The workmanship was average at best - with little attention paid to our specific requests and details. Some examples: Paint was spilled on our carpet because the area was not properly prepared, the crew had to re-do the ceilings in two rooms because they misread or did not follow the bill of work, they did not drop the light fixtures from the ceiling and simply painted around them - getting paint on the fixtures themselves. Additionally, in their haste to prepare and later finish the job, items were carelessly stacked on top of our artwork - including a textured painting which suffered minor damage. Lines between the ceiling and walls were not done with precision and had to be redone. Smoke detectors were not removed and carelessly painted on...well you get the idea. There was such a punch list by the time we were done inspecting the house, it required an additional half day's work by two crew members to make everything look good. In the end, our house looks a lot better than it did and we are satisfied with the results, the crew was polite, as was the staff at Sun Painting - however based on my overall experience I cannot in good conscience recommend their services to anyone.
Description of Work: We used Sun Painting to have the entire interior of our house painted. This included some minor drywall repair, prepping, and painting.

This was a job which was done 11 months ago. It was a coupon for $450 for 2 painters for the day. We had one of our best painters on the job, Dario. The job was managed by a former employee, Brandon Riddle. We ended up doing a lot of extras and the member seemed pleased. He signed off on our release stating that he was happy with the job. He even asked us to do a bid on the house he was moving away from several months later. He ended up selling the house before we could do the work. Because of the length of time since we did this job and that Brandon no longer works for us so is unavailable for question s, I'm not sure what we could have done differently nor why this customer would write this review at this time. I am reaching out to this member to discuss his issues today. Mark

Communication was not always great with the owner and his workers. The scheduler is a gem though! When I had concerns the day of the job, the owner was prompt in contacting me but that was the only time. He did email as a follow up to see if I was happy with the work but when I described some problems I had, I never heard back. I got the $1299 deal on the painting and definitely got that quality of work. I have mixed feelings about Sun Painting.

Fabulous customer service from the office folks from the first call - I phoned because our walls were 9-10 feet instead of the 8 feet listed in the deal and wanted to inquire about additional charges. The call was quite pleasant and it was evident that they care about their customers. I was told that often times the higher walls can be done within the scope of the coupon and in our case the was the determination. We scheduled an estimator (Autumn) to look at the job. She was very professional and personable. We had a few holes in our laundry room walls from gas line installation that we thought might run extra to repair, but were very happy to hear that those repairs would also be included! We also requested an estimate to paint baseboards and trim. The estimate for the additional work was reasonable and we decided to do everything. We had some scheduling issues due to a family emergency and they were able to postpone our start by a week which was a huge help and relief. The day they were supposed to start, however they did run quite late and I had to phone to check on the status. It would have been great to have gotten a call instead of having to inquire - that is the reason for the B for punctuality. Once they got started everyone worked nonstop. They worked until after 10pm the first night which was a bit late but we figured it was to make up for the late start it wasn't a huge deal. I would recommend discussing the acceptable 'done for the day' time up front each day if you have a big job and need to get to bed at a reasonable hour. On the other hand, if you need it done yesterday, they will probably work all night or until they drop to get it done for you so the flexibility is there! There were a few small issues that came up and they were taken care of more generously than I would have expected, so again, I must reiterate that this is absolutely a customer oriented business! The Angie's List Awards speak to that also, but I have run across other winners that in comparison don't seem nearly as deserving of the honors. Autumn is fantastic! Very responsive and in tune with customer needs. The house looks great!

Very satisfied with the professional job. Carpentry was very well done, over forty windows completely re-caulked (i.e. not just where there appeared to be gaps), and paint of requested areas was completed in just one day. Crew was professional and efficient and responsive. Scheduling took a while (since they were busy due to the popularity of the Angie's list Big Deal I purchased) but appointment was kept right on schedule. Could not be happier with their work and would use again for any exterior painting required. Price was right thanks to the Big Deal I purchased; not sure it would be such a value at their and quot;retailand quot; pricing.

Autumn came out and checked the measurements and we decided that we were good to go for painting and power washing. The crew showed up on time and got started right away. The crew arrived in the afternoon. They pressure washed the painting surfaces then taped off the areas for the over spray. Meanwhile, the crew chief went out with one of my color chips of paint to buy the paint. The high pressure sprayer did a very good job in the hands of the experienced young man that painted. After painting they removed protective tape with its paper. The prepping and clean up are the majority of the work. Afterwards the crew left and I had a few scraps of residual paper and tape to clean up. Professionals make it look simple since they have experience in what to exactly do.
Description of Work: Knew that my place would cost a bit more since it is 2 stories and has steep roofs. $100 up charge for the steep roof and $600 more for the extra story. The estimate was a fair one and the crew were quick and professional. Took a little longer due to crew that had other work in the morning and the distance to drive to my residence. 10 gallons of paint to do my place. Considering the cost of the paint and the 6 member crew, the price was very fair. The painting company made a fair profit and I got my house done in one afternoon with very good results. The best part was that I usually do most of the work around my house, and this time all the effort was done by others. Don't mind paying for others to do a job that I would normally do as long as I feel I'm getting my money's worth.

Everything was seamless - pleasantly surprised - picked the paint, told them what colors - they painted the house - no problems. I was pleasantly surprised because it seems that these days, you don't get anything done right the first time.
Description of Work: Very friendly workers, quick and efficient while keeping everything very neat.

The project went very well. Thanking God for the rain, the painters were slowed down a bit because of it. I should have started some of the preparation process earlier, because it had been a good while since the last paint job. Overall, everything went very well. The carpenter and the painter both desired to provide excellent service and work. Sun Painting's Estimator worked closely with me to make sure that we stayed on budget in spite of the changes in some of what was to be painted. I very much appreciated the spirit of collaboration and cooperation by all providers.
Description of Work: Made repairs additional to that provided in the $1,299.00 discount coupon. Carpenter made excellent repairs to 20 years of deferred maintenance. Painters spent the time to prepare the structurs for recieiving the paint. Care was given to ensure the color scheme was applied as directed.

Ordered the package deal in March, but needed to repair 2nd story deck first. Once the deck repair work was scheduled, I called Sun Painting Texas LLC approximately a month ahead of time to schedule the painting to coincide with the completion of the deck work. At that time they said please call back closer to the time the work is to be done to schedule an estimator to come out. Ok... When I did call back about a week ahead of when I needed the painting work to be completed, their schedule was FULL and it sounded like they would not be able to do the work for weeks. Panic set in because I was about to have a lot of bare wood exposed to the elements and rain was predicted. So, I called and talked to the owner, explained the events (having called a month ahead of time to get into their schedule and because of their work flow at the time - not being placed on the schedule). The owner was very understanding and took a personal interest in the situation - he adjusted the schedule and got the work done when I needed it done, ahead of the rain. That was excellent customer service in my opinion and the quality of the work was first rate. My neighbors are asking for their information. What more can I say except - Thank you!

The estimator, Autumn, came to the house on the scheduled day/time. She listened to my concerns about the replacement of several panels of decayed wood siding and the potential for changing the color of the house from a dark color to a light color. She produced an estimate for the work while at the house. The estimate separated the carpentry work from the painting (a good thing) and provided two options for either keeping a dark color or changing to a lighter color. Her estimate also included a 20% discount for this Angie's List member! Autumn mentioned that Sun Painting used Kelly-Moore paint, but she didn't leave any color samples. Fortunately, another paint company had given us K-M color samples. Since Sun Painting knows they're going to use K-M paint, they should give out the standard K-M color brochure. This is a minor, but irritating point easily correctable by Sun Painting. The carpenters came on the scheduled day, but were several hours late. (I didn't mind them coming at at later time, only they should have called. I could have used the time for something else.) The lead carpenter looked at the house and recommended additional repairs for $250, to which I happily agreed. Once the full carpentry crew arrived, they worked very well and did a top-notch job of replacing several wood siding panels and sections of trim. It took about 1.5 days for them to do the entire carpentry work. The painting crew came on the following day at the scheduled time. The lead painter introduced himself and explained what they were going to do. It was at this point that I told him which K-M paint we wanted to use. (Side note: the lead painter didn't seem familiar with the standard K-M colors, which seemed a little odd.) They pressure-washed the entire house before painting. Most of the painting was done by spraying. They protected the house with paper and plastic as needed. Because we decided to change the color from a dark to a light color, they needed to put two coats on most of the house. Overall, they did an excellent job at covering the old color with the new lighter color (a major concern of mine.) The quality of the hand painting was also excellent. The painting took 1.5 days to complete. The only minor hiccup involved one of the painting crew assigned to hand-painting the trim. I told him not to paint a particular section of trim around a door (because I intended to paint it later with a different color.) The painter nodded that he understood. However, when I checked backed after a couple hours, he had gone ahead and painted the trim! Obviously, he hadn't understood me. It wasn't a big deal, since the trim needed painting. However, I recommend any one else to talk only with the lead painter when giving instructions, changes, etc. At the end of the day, both the quality of the carpentry work and painting was excellent. Despite a few minor complaints, I would recommend Sun Painting to my neighbors. Communication with the office staff was always polite and professional.
