Description of Work: He steam cleaned the carpets and did a move out clean of the house. Unfortunately it did not go well and we had to pay for someone to come in and clean the whole house again (And not just a light clean). | |He overcommits and under delivers. And he's full of excuses. Once he saw how much there was to do he mentioned something about "he should charge me more". I offered to pay him extra for some of it and he asked for an extra $20 on top of that, which seemed reasonable. However, he isn't very thorough at all. | |Here are a few issues we had: | |1. He was supposed to come back Friday to finish everything up and didn't make it until Saturday. Even though we were understanding about his timing, when it came time to have my neighbor come and check it out he called frustrated that they took longer than 10 minutes to get there, making it clear he had to leave and go somewhere else. Initially, he said he would fix anything that wasn't right before he left but he was clearly ready to get out and my neighbor says he did not seem willing to do anything else. | |2. Even though he kept commenting how much there was to do, he kept offering to do more for $20 more. Instead of being thorough, he wanted more work that he didn't have time for. | |3. He says he offers things for free (like dusting blinds) but he forgot to dust some of the blinds (my neighbor took a picture of the duster after she dusted it for us since we'd already left). He also mentioned that he doesn't really clean them because then it would be too much work. He also did not dust the ceiling fans. | |4. He called and said, "you didn't tell me your sink was broken!" when clearly it wasn't something we did. Turns out the tubing came loose under the sink (probably from pulling the sink sprayer out too far out). My guess is that he did it - more importantly, his tone was unnecessary and accusatory. He did end up fixing it, at least . | |5. We had a friend's daughter who was helping with the outside of the house and he offered to pay her $10 to wipe down counters because he was running behind on time. Not okay. | |6. He used so much water on the floors there was standing water when he left. | |7. He said he would come back and redo the mirrors on day 2 because they were streaky and they clearly were not done when he left. | |8. He didn't clean the edges of the stairs and the realtor said the stairs (carpeted) had to be cleaned again after he left. | |9. The house initially smelled like smoke when he left (we are NOT a smoker household). He says he may have smoked in the garage. Regardless, the smell made it into the house. Definitely not okay! | |10. He used so much water (and potentially not enough soap? deodorizer? not hot enough?) that the carpet in our bedroom stayed wet for too long and ended up smelling like wet dog. We have dogs and when we discussed this with another carpet cleaning company, they mentioned that the smell is a byproduct of bad cleaning. | |When I called him a few days later to tell him about the bad service we'd received and the dog smell that was in the house, he just threw more excuses at me. I wish I'd gone with someone else (a company instead of an individual) and paid more from the get-go instead of hiring someone who seemed reasonably priced and offered a lot for the money. | |I would definitely not recommend Marcus for the job. He seemed like a nice guy and sounded like he'd be thorough but he's not timely, he promises too much (and offers to do more) and then doesn't keep to his word. I thought we were very understanding and nice to him (okay with delays in the schedule, bought him lunch/dinner while he worked, left extra tip money), but instead he left us with a mess to get cleaned up by someone else. So we ended up spending $600 on his services plus another $250 for cleaning and $190 for the carpet odor.
