First of all, I read many reviews and a lot of customers said Rustic Fencing was pricey. Not in my case. Actually, they were within $100 of the bids of three competitors. I took bids from five companies and narrowed it to Rustic and MNG. MNG was wonderfully responsive, answering my questions in full detail with rapid-fire responses. Rustic Fencing wasn't as interactive, but they didn't ignore me, either. I just don't like having to wait a couple of days for a call to be returned. I felt the differences between them might be as close as a coin flip, but there were several things that broke the tie. Rustic has been in the business a very, VERY long time. The man who dug the post holes has worked for them for DECADES. The crew that knocked out my job in dreary weather in a single day? You guessed it, they also have DECADES of work with Rustic. Rustic uses No. 1 cedar, something only MNG considered. Instead of spraying on the stain, Rustic soaks the wooden planks in the stain. (I would think that, as the planks get nicked up over the years, the wood should retain a more finished look with the color having soaked into the planks.) Note, future customers, that they only have one color they use for the stain (because there wasn't enough call for the others they once offered), but don't let that be a factor; Rustic quickly accommodated me on unique needs I had for the project. Two more things that really set Rustic apart: 1) their warranty (one bidder offered 90 days, which pales to 5-7 years, depending on what you have done), and 2) the way they made the gate for me. Rustic didn't put up the typical wooden gate. They made a steel frame. Even after the wood rots away, the steel gate can just be resurfaced with new planks. It's rock-solid. Rustic even made it with adjustable parts on the hinged area to accommodate future swelling, settling, or whatever would get in the way of smooth movement. Like so many other reviewers noted, the actual craftsmanship by Rustic is first-class. It's almost 'art' if you add some of the ornamentation, not just a 'fence.' Rustic's agent who worked with me designed the entire thing--right down to keeping the fence level on the top despite a hard slope in the yard--and came to my house before and after the project to make sure neither I nor they had any 'hidden surprises.' I'd liken the experience somewhat to buying tires: you might get plenty of mileage off a cheap set of tires but, if you want to be safe, get the good stuff because the money isn't going to matter in the long run...it's the quality of life the investment offers you in safety.

Unprofessional response time. Obviously they do not need my business.

We had a problem with the fence after installation. Rustic used brackets with bolts that point straight out, past the post itself. Rustic didn't mention any difference or give us a safety warning. Our dog Marshall was chasing a squirrel when he brushed against a fence post. One of the bolts cut him down the side and we rushed him to the animal hospital for emergency surgery. A company officer later told me this is their standard way of building fences. I highly recommend picking a fence company that uses brackets with the bolt sideways behind the post.

I wasn't as happy with them. I called an left a message, he called me back, and then he was going to call me back to get more information. He never called me back, I finally sent a email to the manager, and I had a hard time staying in touch with him. After he said that he was done, I went out there and they weren't. They had to get somebody back which, they did. The work got done, but I felt like the contractor on that job. I had so much trouble trying to get a hold of him and getting it scheduled. It was around the holiday, I talked with him once and he was supposed to call me back. I tried calling him back and then when he finally got in touch with me, he wanted to put it off until after the holidays. I told him that I had wasted three weeks trying to get a hold of him, in his defense, he did turn around and get it scheduled. I found out that part of the fence that I was getting fixed, they had done before. I've already had problems with it.

They performed as advertised. I am pleased with the finished product.

Although we did not choose Rustic fence, they where our second choice and we felt they were very professional from start to finish. We worked with about six different fence companies, and Rustic, along with the company we chose, was heads above the rest from quality and professionalism perspective. Although they were the highest priced quote, I believe their quality justifies it. I would recommend them to anyone considering a quality fence.

They did it in a timely manner with a reasonable price. They met the specific standards that I wanted. They do a lot of types of fencing in my area. It was their ability to match and exceed my expectation for the wrought iron fence.

Bottom line - fence looks great, we do recommend them. When I reviewed Angie's List previous reviews I was concerned and called the owners. They are locally owned and have been in business for years. The quality of the fence is outstanding, do check for split boards and they will replace them. The stain had to be done twice but they did come back and do it, no questions asked. If we had the time we would have done the staining ourself because I believe applying with a paint brush is better than spraying and cost saving. As with any contractor you need to be there or at least be checking in during the day. Several of our neighbors also used them and all seem to be happy. I'm waiting for them to come back to the neighborhood to cover some of the post in our driveway and to leave some stain for us. Our sales person is a little slow in responding (a little annoying) but he knows what he is doing which was more important than his speed.

I searched Angie's List for the fencing repair I had done. Those people were crazy. It was crazy expensive. They were really expensive. This was not an Angie's List retailer. The quality of the materials that they used was good. The sales guy didn’t fully explain to me how they were going to go about replacing the fencing. It was really important, because it was a portion of the fence that I thought was getting replaced and it wasn’t. With regard to responsiveness, I asked him questions about stuff and he didn’t call. With regard to professionalism, he didn’t communicate real well. The quality of work was excellent.

Bob Erwin provided profession service. We had a cement wall, entire wood on wood cedar fence along with a wrought iron fence on one side installed. The work was excellent and the installers were good at their crafts. The installers were professional, timely and polite. We have received numerous compliments on our new fence.

Rustic Fence was awesome! We were very happy with our salesman Bob's professionalism. The crew that installed the fence was very friendly and sensitive to our privacy. We had several quotes and found Rustic to be very reasonable. Rustic also worked with our neighbors to make the payment splitting process easier for us. They were all able to call Rustic directly to pay for their portion of the fence by credit card. The quality of the work is exceptional. We have already had several friends request their information after seeing the finished product! I would recommend them for anyone looking for a high quality, fairly priced fence.

The service went very well. The technicians were able to execute the plan pretty much exactly the way we needed, even though it was not a very common style. As they were building the fence, they were able to accommodate our needs and minor changes along the way. I had no issues with scheduling. I am planning on using them again to have them finish the fence.

I had three bids and two, including Rustic Fence were within $50 of each other. Since Rustic offered box covers for the metal posts, I went with them. They were extremely professional and provided exactly what they said they would. I also had a decorative black metal grate that they built into the fence for a doggy window. I was very pleased with the quality of the work.

Poorly. Can't get an estimate so I won't be dealing with them, EVER!

This was without a doubt the worst experience I've ever had with a contractor. The initial bid was "wrong" (due to the estimator's error - he's no longer with the company - and then second bid was 50% higher. In hindsight, I should have contracted for that first bid instead of waiting 60 days to commit. Notwithstanding that, I went with Rustic, in part due to the professionalism of our estimator, Bryan (in comparison to some of the other contractors I spoke with!). Due to the overall cost to have all 3 sides done (see first point!), we elected to have 81 ft of fence installed at the back of our property, planning on completing the other 2 sides with Rustic. We were out of town during the install (big mistake) but were completely shocked when returning a day after the installation. The fence posts were straight, the "runners" were perpendicular, but the pickets were a whole bubble off vertical! Instead of being 90 deg, they were at least 15 deg off vertical. Needless to say I was livid. To their credit, Bryan and his boss Ryan did come out and take a look and said they "were embarrassed" (you think?) by this workmanship. I pushed to have all pickets replaced and ended up with 60ft of the 81ft replaced, and this time they were straight. To add insult to injury, the original installers left a 3" plus gap at the bottom (and yes I understand the curvature of the ground). On the second attempt of installation, I asked for (and was charged $150 more) for that "kick board". I did receive a "discount" on that kickboard (but only after I counter proposed). All in all, a less than stellar performance by Rustic. Many areas for improvement, including responsiveness, timeliness, arrival times, communications, etc. The remaining 2 sides will be done by another contractor, for sure. To me, if you screw up something, one should offer "to make it right" which to me includes some monetary discount. A two day job turned into a 3 week nightmare.

Rustic Fence did an exceptional job installing a chain link fence at my mother's home in Dallas. i was very pleased with the work done. The cost was also very competitve. In fact, I had a family member who wanted to install it and Rustic's prices and professionalism beat my own family. Joseph was professional and courteous. I would definitely use them again. The only concern I had was their timeliness. It took them about a week longer to complete the job as I think they were a bit behind on some of their other jobs. Regardless, I would definitely use them again. I liked their work, price and professionalism. I wish they did construction work as well. I need a good crew I can trust. Thanks Rustic for a job well done.

They never responded after initial visit.

Thomas came out and gave a very detailed estimate for both the fencing and the electronic gate. He arrived at the time he said he would. The fence was done in one workday and the workers did an excellent job from removal of the old fence and installing the new one. The electronic gate installation was done a short time later. Rustic Fence installed the gate exactly as requested and all worked perfectly. A few days later, I recognized that I had given incorrect instructions on how the gate should open/close -- the gate was opening outward instead of inward. I brought this to Thomas' attention and even though I confirmed this mistake had nothing to do with the quality or accuracy of Rustic Fence, Thomas arranged to have a person come back out and re-install the gate so that it opened inwardly and did this at no additional charge to me - he did it for customer satisfaction purposes only. Approx 3 weeks later, the gate was moved to the other side of the driveway and made to open inwardly and all has worked perfectly since the re-installation was done. Overall, I would recommend Rustic Fence to anyone who is looking to have a wooden privacy fence and/or electronic gate installed. Though they were not the least expensive estimate I had gotten, they were very competitive in their prices. The slight amount of extra money spent using Rustic Fence was well worth my investment. I am extremely satisfied in all aspects with the job done and with Rustic Fence.

It went well. At first I was nervous because it seemed that the men who came did not understand what Nathan and I had deciced, But then Nathan came and the fence gates were built very well. I am going to use them for another fencing matter in the near future.

Rustic did a great job. Very professional and pleasant to work with. The new fence was up very fast and I am very happy with their work.

Nathan showed up on time to give me an estimate on 1 side of my fence. My neighbor and I were going to pay half. We wanted metal poles and new gates. My daughter had the same thing. He measured both fences and said he would send me an email within a few days. Well it's been over a month and a half and no word from Nathan. We had Rustic put our fence in when we first bought our house and they did a fantastic job. I think they need to get someone more reliable than Nathan because they are going to lose customers since he doesn't get back with them.

I never received an estimate, so it went nowhere

It went quite well. There are a few places that need completing and we are waiting for that to be done.

My neighbor across the street had used them and I thought it was beautiful and so when I had them out to give me an estimate they were very professional and on time. They made sure they did all the measurements and stuff and were working with my neighbors to make sure that they were good with them and were just very thorough and professional.

The entire experience with Rustic was great! I met with Ryan South a couple of months ago to get a bid on the project. When I was ready to move forward, I asked him to come out and rebid the job based upon a couple of changes on our part. He was prompt in rebidding and we hired his company. They obtained a permit from the city, and once approved, scheduled the work. Everything went as promised. They removed the existing fence and installed the steel posts and concrete footings the first day. The actual fence building took an additional two days, as planned. The fence bulders (three) were friendly, industrious and neat. They left our property looking great. I would defintely use Rustic Fence again.
