I had learned of Jim through a recommendation from an interior design consultant. I have since contacted her and told her this story. Jim told us that they were going to be out at the property at 8am. After waking my two young kids up early and driving 45 minutes to get to the property the builder was an hour late and his crew was 2 hours late. They apparently put the wrong address into their GPS. I received no phone calls that they were going to be late. There wasn't really an apology just a "I guess it happens" attitude. My father in law was at the property helping me get repairs done that were required by the inspector for us to close on the sale of the house. He was removing siding and rehanging it by one of the windows they were working on. My father in law was going to get there after they finished, but since they were 2 hours late he had to come while they were working because the inspector needed to be called before the end of the day in order for closing to go through as scheduled. My father in law told them (and I was standing right there), "if you need me to move let me know". They finished hanging all the windows (including the one he was working by), and sealed ONE of them. I had to run to home depot and get food for my kids since they had been there for 4 hours in an empty house. My father in law was still at the property when I was gone and saw the guys pack up and leave. He mentioned that he heard the son say something like, "wait are we not going to finish?" then the dad said "just get in the car". Three of the windows were not finished at this point so my father in law assumed they were going to lunch. When I got back I saw all the tools and everything were gone. I called Jim and asked him if they indeed went to lunch or had left. He called them then called me back and basically blamed my father in law for being in their way so they packed up and left, when he told them all the had to do was tell him they needed to work there. Unfortunately that didn't explain why the other windows that he wasn't near didn't have screens in them, have any sealant around them, nor have the trim back up around them. After a lengthy conversation with Jim we decided that a $75 refund for my father in law having to fix the window job that we just paid him 1K for was reasonable. His response to me asking for a refund was, "A tube of Caulk isn't that expensive." I'm confused as to when it was MY job to finish the work he got paid for. Thankfully my father in law was there because by now my children were having epic meltdowns. Fast forward to this month (August) and I have still not received any refund and Jim won't return any of my calls and texts. I would recommend that you NOT use this company.

Response from FWD BUILDERS
While (member name removed) complaint contains some truth, there are mostly inaccuracies in her story. FWD builders did contract with her to replace two windows in her rental property, so that she could sell it. We had gone through a number of other proposals when she had planned to keep the property, but got an offer to sell, and just wanted to replace two windows - one in the addition, one in the master bedroom. There had been an addition done to the house at some time in the past that was not permitted or inspected by the city. The foundation of the addition settled, causing the vinyl siding on the exterior to buckle and pull away from the wall, and the window to break. By the time she decided what she wanted to do, the close date had been set (June 5). We ordered the windows May 19, with delivery expected the following week. There was some sort of problem - the manufacturer shipped both windows, but only one of them showed up at the distributor. The distributor ordered another window to replace it, and it was delivered June 3 to the distributor, where I picked it up. (Member name removed) was informed that my crew and I were leaving for her home at 7am, and could arrive by 8, unless there was traffic. The traffic was heavy, and it was almost 9 by the time I arrived. (Member name removed) had texted me about 8:40 and I was less than 10 minutes away. I called to see where my crew was, they had gone to the same street on the other side of town, and so were also about 10 minutes away. I unloaded the windows and then they arrived. They removed the existing windows, and started modifying the opening for the window in the addition. We needed some additional materials, because it was so far out of square. I went to the limber yard, brought back the materials needed, and I helped install the window. They then installed the master bedroom window. (Member name removed) and I looked at both windows, she was happy and I collected the balance of the contract. I left for another project, and was there by 10:30. After I left, her father in law arrived to install the siding. He stopped my guys, asked them to cut and install a few pieces of wood around the window side, which they did, then he told them to wait until he had installed the siding before they caulked that window. They waited 10 or 15 minutes, then left because he was not done. I got a text from (member name removed) a little before 2, which I missed because I was working on the other project, as well as another text at almost 4 saying that her father in law had gone ahead and caulked the window once he had finished the siding, as well as threatening to stop payment on her card because I had not called her back. When I did see the messages, I called her back and we agreed that everything was ok because of the extra work we had done but not charged her for. The next thing I know, nearly 3 months later, she is filing complaints and trying to bully her way into some type of refund. Her complaint appears to be that we didn't install the screens; that we didn't caulk the window her father in law was working on; and that her children we misbehaving because she had them at her house since 8am. The saddest part is that most online review associations don't care about what is fair or right. The only consideration is, "Based on our member's request, are you willing to resolve this issue to our member's satisfaction?"

All projects met and exceeded our expectations with quality craftsmanship and creative designs and solutions. In the first project, walls were removed to provide open space over three room spaces. A glass block wall was built as a creative solution for providing a privacy screen in the foyer. Because Jim St. Johns stays close to his projects, every detail is satisfactory.
Description of Work: During almost 20 years we have come back to FWD Builders for four projects that enhanced the two homes we have lived in during this time: 1. After complete demolition of 50% of our home, living space was added, an elegant kitchen with custom cabinets and counters was designed, solar tubes and a skylight were installed, relocated dryer, washer and HW heater in 1997. 2. Complete remodel of master bath room-- tasteful improvements were made in 2005. 3. Major improvements to a wood-paneled living room with custom cabinets, two sky lights and classic cast stone fire place in 2012. 4. Complete remodel of guest bathroom with custom cabinets, vanity, universal shower with marble walls in April 20013. .

We used this company to remodel our master bathroom and a shared children's bath. The one requirement my wife had was a solid surface for the shower. The owner assured us that he could use Corian for the shower walls. Instead of bringing in a crew of workers, most of the work was done by a "handyman". He obviously knew nothing about installing Corian, and the results were ugly. He was unable to create a good seam between the pieces of Corian (he just slopped glue in and then tried to sand down the crust- unsuccessfully). The walls are not even and there are raw edges everywhere. When we brought these problems to the owner's attention he told us that he would not do any more work until after he got the final 10% payment for the job. Naturally we refused, and we NEVER HEARD FROM HIM AGAIN! We ended up spending another $3500 to get the shower ripped out and repaired. The reason I am writing this review is that we saw him today at a home show and I do not want anyone else getting fleeced.

I'm sorry that you felt that your needs were not met. After all, we redid the shower 3 times. The wall surface was white, and the process of seaming the pieces together pulled color from the adhesive holding the walls up. I felt that we went far above what our agreement was to try and satisfy you and your wife, but somehow could not do it. The shower was beautiful, as was the master and upstairs bathroom remodeling.

We can’t speak highly enough about this company. Jim, the owner, was 100% wonderful! In fact, we wouldn’t consider going to another company for future remodeling projects. Their work was superb!
Description of Work: They replaced our fireplace mantel, installed new skylights, and mounted our television.
