The initial contact with Davey Do was good. He was professional, responsive and punctual. However, the work he did caused water damage to my home. I had to file an insurance claim to repair the damage. A project that should have been easy at a cost of $350 has cost me 6 weeks of inconvenience constructio work and out-of-pocket expense of $2,270. I filed a complaint with the BBB of Fort Worth and Davey Do claims he did nothing wrong. I have pictures, an expert opinion from a certified plumber, the water restoration company and my insurance company adjuster who all agree that Davey Do did something wrong. But, he will refuses to reimburse me and claims I didn't agree to his recommendation. I didn't contact Davey Do after the water leak because it was an emergency situation, he had abruptly walked off the job and I didn't feel it would be a pleasant conversation. He claims he has insurance and this damage should be covered if he does. Please be aware of him. In addition, he is being endorsed by Floor and Decor in Arlington with his business cards and a picture of him on their wall. But, no one has an address for him. Oh, and he charges a $35 fee for writing him a check. Background My boyfriend and I met the owner of Davey Do Handyman & Remodeling Services at Saltgrass Steak House in North Arlington on Lamar on Friday, 6/15/12. We spotted his truck first and then we saw him at the bar with his uniform shirt on that said Davey Do Handyman & Remodeling Services. His image was professional and demeanor courteous. He gave me his card and I called him. He came out the following Thursday, 6/21/12 and provided a quote of $350 to replace both bathroom faucets (I have a Jack and Jill setup upstairs) and to redo the toilet that the previous contractor did not do correctly ? the toilet needed to be bolted down and the wax ring replaced because the toilet moves. I called the 3 references that Davey Do provided. I talked to two of them and both endorsed him saying he had done a great job and they would hire him again. I wasn?t able to talk with the third reference, but I left him a message. But he did not return my call. Based on the positive feedback, I hired Davey Do to start work the following day on 6/22/12. He arrived on time, was pleasant and professional. I signed the proposal and work began. But, I didn?t like the payment plan -- he charges $35 for a check processing fee. I questioned it and he said something about if you don?t bank at certain banks and you try to cash checks, they charge you a fee and he passes that fee on to his customers. I still didn?t like the answer, but I went to the bank and got cash. While he worked, he needed help pulling off the bolts on the water pipes. My boyfriend helped him, but didn't see his glasses on the counter and bent the frame some. After he finished, the faucet looked good and the water ran down the drain just fine. The faucet work took him all day to do -- he even left for lunch and came back to finish; he under estimated the time. He started working on the toilet. At the end of the day, he came to me and said it was the end of the day and that he would return in the morning to finish the toilet work so he could get home to have dinner with his wife. He mentioned it would be better to replace the cutoffs for all three toliets for an additional $75 each or a total of $225. My boyfriend questioned the need. After their discussion, we decided to leave the cutoffs as is and if we needed them changed, my boyfriend would do it later. As a result, Davey Do decided to stay and complete the job by bolting down the toilet upstairs without changing the cutoff (this was the recommendation that I decided not to go with that he claims is the reason for my water damage). It didn?t take him long to finish and he ended up leaving about 5 or 6 pm. He said he would come back the following day (Saturday) to replace the gold plated transition pieces with wood at both ends of the Jack and Jill bathroom. He returned Saturday and began working. But, I noticed that he was a bit short with me, not friendly nor talkative. I asked what was wrong; he said he was upset because my boyfriend had insulted him the day before. I told him I?m sure he didn?t mean anything by what he said and apologized for him. I also called my boyfriend and told him how Davey was feeling. My boyfriend said it wasn?t his intention and he said he wanted to apologize. I told Davey that my boyfriend was on the phone and wanted to talk to him, but Davey refused to take the phone. However, I noticed he was getting madder and madder. I was worried that he would saw his fingers off and his face was turning red. I could see the anger in his face. My boyfriend asked me to put him on speaker phone several times. I finally did and he apologized, but Davey would not accept the apology and started packing up his things as fast as he could. He told me that he would not be finishing the transition pieces and that he just wanted to be paid for Friday?s work. He said his wife told him not to come back, but he said he was a man of his word, but this was it because he told me he didn?t want to talk to my boyfriend. I paid him in cash for the work he did on Friday and he rushed out of my house and drove off. I stood in the drive way in total shock. I?ve never had that happen before and I didn?t know what else to do. Two months later (August), my daughter mentioned that she felt water on the carpet in front of her vanity. At different times, my boyfriend and I went upstairs to check, but we didn't feel or see water. I looked under the sink and didn't see water. We thought it was her imagination. And,she dismissed it as maybe she had too much water on her body after her showers. She left for college around August 13th. On Friday, August 17th, I noticed two water stains on my living room ceiling as I walked into the kitchen. I ran upstairs immediately. My daughter's carpet was soaked, my shoes gushed in water and went through and wet my feet. I opened the vanity doors and saw water bubbles on the vanity floor. The pipes were dry. I immediately called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. Christopher, Field Supervisor, arrived that afternoon. When we went upstairs, there was water on the pipes now and on the floor of the vanity. He assessed the water damage as a result of the new faucet installation. He asked who had been working on it and when. He said the gray PVC pipe should have been cut off about an 1 ½? for the A/C overflow drainage. Since it wasn?t cutoff, it caused the condensation to backup and cause the water damage. He said Davey Do could not have been a licensed plumber or he would have known better. I spent $516 for the plumbing work he did, $350 for the repair of the plumbing work to fix the sink and A/C drainage. He recommended that I call my insurance company to file a claim, but insurance would not cover his services. And, he also said to call a water restoration company to dry everything out to avoid mildew. He suggested Dry Force. I called Dry Force and a tech came out that evening around 8 pm. The tech used an electronic device to check for water below the surface upstairs and on the living room ceiling. Water damage was detected everywhere. It was more than what was on the surface. It was bad. He had to pull up the carpet, padding and baseboards. He brought in 3 large fans and machines, he cut a hole in my living room ceiling and hooked up to a plastic funnel / tube to the ceiling from the equipment to blow into the area over the next 4 days to dry it and avoid mildew. The equipment ran 24 / 24 and it drove me crazy. By Monday, I was a basket case. I called my insurance company and the adjuster came out and discovered that a claim was needed. The following work had to be done: 1. rebuild the vanity sink 2. replace the padding and carpet in the bedroom and closet 3. replace the bathroom tile that I had replaced in with another contractor in May 2012 4. reset the toliet and wax ring My house was under construction for 6 weeks with contractor after contractor in and out. I was mentally drained from this ordeal. Floor and Décor in South Arlington, Texas off 360 and Pioneer Parkway is endorsing him and his work, however, no one knows his contact information either. I?ve spoken to two store managers and they do not know anything other than what?s posted on the advertisement. I found an address on Angie?s List (425 Curtis Mathis Way) but it is located at Arlington Highlands, an outdoor mall. On November 27th, I called all of his references again to see if anyone knew his given name or contact information. One reference is no longer employed with her company. The gentlemen was shocked to hear about my disaster, but he didn?t have any information. He too had to pay in cash to avoid the $35 processing fee. I also spoke with the third referene and she didn?t have any contact information either. She was shocked to hear about my situation. She had found his information on the wall at Floor and Décor and paid him cash to avoid the $35 processing fee.

Description of Work: Mr. Soto was hired to remodel several rooms in my house. He asked for $2,400.00 as downpayment. Demo started on June 18th. of the kitchen and bathroom. Mr. Soto requested more money. The living room and dining room were painted and the texture was taken off the ceiling. (We paid for paint) Then Mr Soto wanted more money. Demolishing stopped. At this point we had no kitchen, no bathroom including no floor. The only thing left in the bathroom was the toilet and sink. Mr. Soto then wanted more money. I told him on the 25th of June I wanted to cut back on some of the remodeling as nothing was getting done. He told me that he would get with us about the cutbacks. He never showed up. Instead, he packed up everything and left. We talked to him the next day and said he wanted $500.00 more to start back working. We told him that we had already given him $10,700. and nothing had been done. We have had to file a civil case against Davey Do Handyman Services to try and get our money back.
