Custom PaintWorx

I contacted Custom PaintWorx on May 4th and left a message for Calen McNulty to set up a time to come by and give us an estimate. He texted me on May 7th, 2017 and apologized for taking so long to get back with me. He asked if he could come by at 5:30 P.M. on Tuesday, May 9th, 2017. I texted back that "That will be fine. See you then". When he arrived on May 9th, we showed him everything that needed to be done. When he looked at the holes in the wall, he kept saying, "I can repair it, but it's going to be a problem". His favorite sentence, which he repeated at least 4 times during his inspection was, "That's going to be a problem". At the end of his inspection, he said he would go home and write up an estimate and email it to me. As he was walking out the door, he said, "If the estimate is too high and you don't agree with it, then no hard feelings and have a good life.", which my wife and I thought sounded inappropriate and kind of unprofessional. 6 days later, on May 15th, 2017, I received an email with his estimate which was as follows: Repair all holes and cracks in sheet rock throughout the house Remove old crown molding and install new crown molding in the living room Paint all walls, ceilings, trim and doors throughout the house (excluding closets) Prime and paint cabinets in laundry room and master bedroom. Total cost: $8565.00. I signed the proposal and called him to ask if he wanted me to email it back with my signature so he could begin the work. He said, "No. I'm about three weeks out from getting started on your house and I'll give you a call to set up a start date." I said that was fine and I looked forward to hearing from you. After 3 weeks had passed, my wife asked if I had heard from Calen McNulty yet. I told her no, but sometimes jobs can get behind scheduled completion dates and he's probably busy. I told her I'd give him another week. I gave him two more weeks instead of one. Finally, after 5 weeks of waiting to hear from him, I called him. He never returned my call. I called another contractor and he came by and gave us a much cheaper quote than Custom Paintworx, plus did a lot of extra detailing. The contractor we hired also saved us money by using the same crown molding we had and he couldn't understand why Calen said we needed new molding. Our house now looks great and almost brand new inside. While Calen Mcnulty was here to give us a quote, he told us several times that all of his business is referral based. We now realize that all he did was waste 5 weeks of our time waiting to hear from him and he didn't really want to do our renovation at all. If he didn't want to take on our project, just tell us so we can call someone else to get it done, instead of lying to us and wasting our time. How is that for a referral? If any of my friends or family need a painter, I'll tell them to NOT call Custom Paintworx and spread the word about them. Have a good life.

He met and exceeded the estimated time frame for getting the job completed(est. 8 days, finished in 6). Daily, he cleaned up, the house was livable. The paint on the walls was even, with no light spots. The Trim and doors were very smooth, with little brush strokes left in the paint. The carpet, floors, and furniture were kept in great condition, there were no paint "slops" that I found. The texture he completed in the bathroom was beautiful! I was very impressed with the quality of the work he had completed, in all he exceeded my expectations of the job. As I explained to him "I am easy to work with, as long as I get what I want in the end" and I did, by far!

They arrived when they said, they prepared the house by pressure washing and then used taping to be sure the trim paint did not get on the brick. My trim is 2 colors and they taped so that the colors stayed separate and it looks very nice. They were finished in the 2 days they estimated.

He does excellent work! He is very professional. He is very personable and great to work with. He delivers what he says he's going to do.
