Capacitor was found to be bad, with the tech showing us the reading, and was replaced for around 110. The AC unit itself is slightly undersized for the house, so it's still not optimal, but seems to be doing better since the service. The tech was knowledgeable and helpful, and did not try to sell me anything I didn't need.
Description of Work: I bought the house recently. The previous owner had had a tuneup done but was having some problems with AC not keeping up with the heat, so I decided to get it checked out.

I'm am sorry you had a less than A rated experience with our company. We endeavor to provide 100% satisfaction to every customer we serve and we have a pretty good record of doing just that. Unfortunately, we are human and when the temperatures sore it gets a little hectic in the offices of AC repair companies as you can imagine. It is inevitable someone will fall through the cracks no matter how hard we try to make sure that doesn't happen. I am not sure what happened in your case but I do remember talking to you on that day and apologizing for the error. I also set up the call as a first call the next day and I dispatched the tech directly from his house that morning so he would get there as early as possible. I even instructed the tech to go ahead and go out when he was unable to reach anyone by phone to confirm. Our standard operating procedure would have been to go to the next call and try again later if unable to confirm. We must do this because many customers will call multiple companies for the same service call and have whoever gets there first do the repairs. That's fine with us, but I can't afford to send a tech to an unconfirmed call just to find that someone else has already been there. Many people forget to call back to cancel is those situations. I am pleased though that we were able to service your needs in a professorial and satisfactory manner once we overcame the scheduling issue. Thank you for your feed back. It just makes us a better company in the long run.

My AC had gone out the day before. The tech did the analysis and found that there was a bad connection, it was an easy fix. He also gave me some advice on keeping my AC unit running and in good condition.

We are happy with the service and price that Cool Tech Mechanical provided. The serviceman was not pushy, he analyzed the problem methodically, and he preformed the service efficiently. The Cool Tech Mechanical serviceman did say that if the problem had been the capacitor, that it would have cost an additional $150, which is too much to replace a $10 part. We ended up paying about $300 to charge both units and a month later are still cooling nicely. On a less positive note, we had already paid $89 for AirTran to diagnose the issue but their quote was ridiculous, the issues were exaggerated, and it was obvious their serviceman did not value his job.

I hate leaving bad reviews, but this one frustrated me. I had them come twice, 2014 and today. 2014 appointment - They arrived, but do not let an HVAC person do electrical work. The tech wanted to bypass the breaker. NO. Breakers exist for a reason. Lack of knowledge?! ----- 2016 appointment - It is now 5:30 and nobody has shown up or called me for my 4:30 appointment. I called and they are unsure what time they can make it. If they DO come today (after 5pm), I would now have to pay after-hour rates, even though my schedule was for 4:30. This is out of my control, and I believe I should not be charged more. I intentionally scheduled for 4:30 so I can leave work 2 hours early and not have to pay this extra rate. Their scheduling dept needs some work. I will call elsewhere. It is difficult for me to take off work so I will not be able to take any more time off and avoid the after-hour rates.
Description of Work: Blower motor needs to be looked at. A/C is non-functional.

I am sorry your experience with our company was not what you expected. We apparently did not make it clear what our scheduling policies are. We cannot set a specific arrival time for any call other than the first call of the day. Every call is different and can range from 1 hour to 4 hours or more depending on what we find. Our standard reply to customers who want a specific time or time window is, that we will make note of their preference and try to work it in the schedule in that time range but cannot guarantee it. We then inform them that our tech will call at least 30 minutes prior so that you don't have to sit at home and wait until we can arrive. We then work until we are done with All the calls that were set up that day even if that means working past our regular hours. We DO NOT charge overtime on those calls even if we incur overtime cost in labor. We only charge extra for after-hours requests for emergency service for which we are paying overtime to the techs. Our tech would have contacted you when he was on the way with a 30-minute notice but you called and canceled after he did not arrive at 4:30. A time we now know you schedule in order to try to avoid overtime charges that you wouldn't have been charged in any case. Most companies, like us, are not able to set a specific time of arrival due to the obvious logistics issues of having a free tech available at that specific time. The only way to provide that type of scheduling would be to over employ techs so you have a surplus at any given time. Which would also raise our overhead drastically. So all service would cost more, even more than our overtime rate. As far as the 2014 call. We work under a Mechanical License with the state of Texas. That indeed means we cannot repair electrical issues. That requires an Electrical License. It also means we cannot diagnose the system if there is no power to it. Our tech merely offered to temporally bypass a faulty breaker so he could determine if the A/C system was operating correctly. Our techs are well versed in the purpose of breakers. We are sorry we were unable to communicate this information to you in a manner you understood. We will endeavor to be clearer with our customers in the future. Any charges you incurred will be refunded.

I am sorry your experience with our company was not what you expected. Our tech on arrival found the unit panels off and the electrical disconnect had been turned off by someone else. Our tech went on to confirm that there was no refrigerant in the [Member Information Removed] and that the compressor was shorted to ground. Replacing a compressor and finding and repairing a leak in an old R-22 [Member Information Removed] is not a good [Member Information Removed] in our opinion. So our tech recommended replacement and [Member Information Removed] an [Member Information Removed] to do that. There was no further diagnosis to do at that point. We do not charge for a replacement [Member Information Removed] the charge was for the service diagnoses. We even refund that cost when a [Member Information Removed] is purchased. I will gladly have Angies list refund your $49.00 for the service diagnosis if you had [Member Information Removed] and [Member Information Removed] wanted a bid to replace a [Member Information Removed] that had already been determined unrepairable by another tech.

David came out and performed an A/C tune up on my new house. He arrived promptly and was professional and polite. He found a few things that needed to be repaired and gave me a quote. I accepted and he completed the work. The visit took approximately 1 hour. I have used Cool Tech for about 5 years now. They have always been fairly priced and don't try to sell you unnecessary things like others do. Highly recommended!

Did exactly what he suggested and issue was resolved.

A gentlemen from this company called me, explained my issue was easily resolved and proceeded to tell me how to do so myself. I was able to schedule the appointment on the same day that I bought the deal on Angie's List. The technician was prompt and very patient with explaining everything he was doing and what need to be repaired.

Someone came to our house the day we called to check our A/C unit and furnace and gave us a quote to have both replaced - their quote was the best out of 3 other companies we got quotes from. Don't even know where to begin. This company was fantastic!! We consider ourselves extremely lucky for coming across them here on Angie's list. Every single aspect of what they did gets an A+ from us! There was constant communication and explanation to make sure that we knew what we were getting. And boy, what we received was the best in every way! They even went one step further and hid all the cables and pipes properly! Something we were not expecting but received. They were extremely patient and understanding with regard to timelines and were never pressured into a sale. Also had no problem with us wanting to get a concrete slab poured instead of using the pads they sell. And was willing to work with the contractor who did the slab for us. Again, excellent job and Thank You Jon Kalp!

Our A/C went out the first week of September while it was still hot. I had a general idea from research I had done on what brands I was interested in and what the price range should be. I called Cool Tech on Wed. morning and they sent out a technician that afternoon to confirm that the unit needed to be replaced. Jon came and presented me with some options - and no pressure. The price was what I expected and wanted to get it in fast so I didn?t call any other companies. I didn?t want to have to go the weekend without A/C so he ordered the unit right away and pulled a crew off of a commercial job in order to get it in on Friday morning, which I really appreciated. They arrived on time, had the unit in within 4 hours, and did a nice clean up. Good job and would use them again.

Contacted Jon Kalp to request a quote to replace my A/C System. He scheduled an appointment with me and looked at all the existing equipment and talked about a few options. He was reasonably thorough and sent a Bid to me with a few different options. The Bid was clear and the options were a good reference point. I had another bid from a contractor I trust, but Jon?s bid was better in terms of Seer rating and price. We scheduled the installation day. I asked Jon who would be doing the install. He said it would be ?one of the crews? they contract with. That should have been a red flag but, Jon assured me that all their crews were good. When the installation day was closer, Jon said it would be one of their ?commercial? crews. I was a little concerned about a commercial installation crew doing a residential installation but again, Jon assured me that the commercial crews were the ?cream of the crop?. The crew showed up on time and with all the right equipment. Jon had advised me that they may have to take the door off the inside closet where the blower/coil unit was located to accommodate the new unit. Unfortunately, the crew had to remove the door, the trim and the casing to get the unit in. They pulled out the casing, piece by piece and made a mess of it. When the installation was complete, they tried to put the casing and door back in, but didn?t do a very good job of it. They left a large gap between the casing and the door and left the trim hanging at the bottom. After some debate, Jon agreed that it was done poorly and said he would have someone come to repair the door. It took several weeks and a couple of phone calls, but Jon did make good on his promise to have the door repaired. After the installation crew left, I found several screws laying on the carpet around the door, along with debris from the door removal. They didn?t vacuum, or pick up after themselves. I also found they installed the zone control board so that the wires running to it were too short and were pulled so tight they couldn?t put the cover back on the controller. Jon sent his partner out to fix that. He also corrected some minor connection issues with the thermostats. So, all in all, I think I got a good system at a good price and Jon took care of all the installation issues I experienced. But, it would have been a much better experience if the installation had gone better. I think Cool Tech needs to take more care in the selection of their installers. For that reason alone, I don?t think I would recommend them to anyone.

It allows us to identify and correct issues with personnel and/or procedure. We strive for 100% satisfaction and are very proud of how many of our reviews here reflect our success of achieving that level. But as I have stated here before, we realize that we and our employees are only human and we can and will make mistakes. In my opinion it is more important to our customers how we correct these mistakes than the fact they we will make some from time to time. When I had arrived at the job site our crew had already removed the door frame. These are pre-manufactured casings that are made on an assembly line using long staples at the corners instead of nails or screws. Once this type of frame is taken apart it is very hard to get it back together like it was. As we discussed at the time the mistake my crew made was taking the frame out a piece at a time. As you pointed out and I agreed with the best method would have been to remove the trim boards and then cut the anchoring staples and remove the whole door frame intact. Trying to reassemble the door frame in the field is very hard and our crews’ skill set is HVAC not carpentry. I told you at the time if we were not able to re-install it to your satisfaction I would hire a carpenter to do it. And we did just that. There is no good excuse for not doing the site cleanup we demand and get from our crews 99.9% of the time. The wire blocking the zone damper control panel door was also inexcusable. Both mistakes are rare and we did correct them. Again, we are very pleased you took the time to point out these issues so that we can take steps to insure they are not repeated. We are also very happy that everything has been corrected to your satisfaction. This crew gets many rave reviews here which I feel is more reflective of their work. They unfortunately just fell a little short here. Please let us know if you have any other issues and please know we are always here to back up our installation and honor our and the manufactures warranty.

We welcome input from our customers good and bad. It actually helps us improve when we get an unflattering review so that we can better identify weak procedures or personnel for tweaks or training. And sometimes we just plain make a mistake. We always stand behind our work however and certainly would not have charged for multiple trips for the same issue. I can however find NO record of this call or this customer name. We don't even have a call on that date that would be a similar situation as described. There are No four trip calls that we can find on 8-5-15 on our service calendar. Are you sure you have the right company? That was 5 months ago. Maybe it was a company with a similar name? If the work was done at another address and under another name please let us know we will be more than willing to do whatever it takes to make it right.

Cool Tech Mechanical were fantastic! I highly recommend their services. I had 2 other companies out there who wanted to replace the coil ( $ 2200) or the whole system ($5000+). Jon Kalp and his team did an investigation and discovered that there was no leak in the coil and that the problem was busted drywall vent in the attic. He didn't personally do that type of repair but was willing to provide a reference. I had my property management company send out a handy man team who made the repair for $200. Cool Tech Mechanical is run by honest, good people. When Jon realized that my tenant was without proper air conditioning and had terminal cancer, he installed a temporary unit that he had free of charge so that my tenant could be comfortable while he waited for the vent to be fixed. This is the kind of company that you want working on your house or business. People who deserve to be paid well but also have a heart. Where else do you want to take your business?! Believe me, Cool Tech Mechanical is getting all of my future business.
