DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I had a wall hydrant freese and called Benjamine Franklin to repair it The techniciat arrived on time, looked at the faused then gave me a quopte of over 500 dollars to repair it insistng he had to remove bric from my house to diagnose. I complained about the price, he called in and got it reduced to just under 300 dollars which means he was price gouging from the start and stilol insisted he remove brick to diagnose the problem. I had the saame faused replaced by them several yeaars ago, it was a good experience. The technician unscrewed the defective part from the wall and installed a new one. Took less than 10 minutes. The guy they sent this time STILL insisted he remove brick from ther side of my house to diagnose, that would have cost even more to repair. Obvioulsy the technician did not know what he was d*** or how to simply replace the defective part. Fortunately I was able to source the part at HOme demot and install myself. It literally took less that 10 minute4s. I will NEVER use Benjamine Franklin or recommend them again. They clearly employ incompetent plumbers not te mention price gouging!

My mom had problems with her bathroom plumbing. He told her it would cost $48,000 to re-do her bathroom pipes. He would have to dig up pipes from garage to bathroom because all the pipes was damaged. My mom is a elderly person and don't have that kind of money. We immediately knew my mom could not stay in house. Move my mom to my house until we could figure out what we could do. After a couple of weeks we decided to get a second opinion and glad we did. The new plumber did the same as Benjamin Franklin tech but the results was different. He figured out there was a shirt in the line and didn't need all the work your company said it did. How did we go from $48,000 to $1,200. Your tech should be a shame of his self. His wrong assessment put me and family in a bad place not knowing how we was going to pay for this. I hope Karma gets you back on how he upset my mom. What goes around comes around. It might not be this but it will be something. I might get my story to everyone but I will get it to some.

Called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to clear a plugged bathroom sink drain. Their representative came and determined that the plug was below the concrete slab of the house and would require tunneling under the slab to repair or replace the drain lines. Half of the estimated cost was paid at the time of the estimate. The next day an excavation crew dug the tunnel and a repair crew started the repairs. Over the next two days, the repair crew found that additional tunneling and repairs would be required at an additional cost. This was agreed to and accomplished. Finally all the repairs were done and an additional partial payment was made as the total cost had increased by 70 percent over the original estimate. The next day the city inspector approved the repairs and the Benjamin Franklin representative said the job was done and asked for the final payment. But the job that we had agreed on was not done as the tunnel was not filled in and there was a huge mound of dirt and debris in our back yard. The Benjamin Franklin representative told me that unless the final payment was made, the tunnel would not be filled nor the yard cleaned up. In my opinion, that is terrible customer relations. For the safety of my family and the environment, I made the final payment and the excavation crew came after the holiday weekend to fill in the tunnel and clean up the yard. I had used Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for many years for all my plumbing needs, but that has come to an end. I will no longer use them and will never again recommend them to my family and friends.

It was going to have to be an after hours fee, but they called me back to say a repairman had finished early and was on his way, so I would only be charged the regular fee. Felix repaired the drain as well as unclogged another drain and got my garbage disposal going again, too (at no charge)! I would definitely call them again.

We try really hard to never have reviews like this regarding pricing concerns. That is why we always present options that includes prices BEFORE we start any repair. We let you choose the option and price that best fits your needs. Once you choose the option for repair that you want, and agree to the price that is included in those options, we have you initial the work up. Then we write everything down on a service report, which includes the full scope of work and the price for the repair (the same as on the option sheet you initial), and have you sign it in order for us to begin the repair. After we are complete, we have you view and approve the work we have done, sign again that you do, and then pay us for the service. All this was done for you, the pricing was given up front and approved by you before the work was started, and you also agreed by signature to the work to be done and the price you would be charged, then you approved the work we did & paid us. Yet you rate us low in pricing? As for how long it took, we do not charge by part & labor. We are a flat rate pricing plumber - we charge by the job, not the hour, and this was also told to you upfront, on your call in as a matter of fact, and is the reason we do a thorough exam THEN present prices and options. If you would like to call us, we would love to speak with you about any concern you have, and you can call at any time. Thank you for your review!

Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing
Your water pressure was 130psi, and you had a slab leak that would require the toilets being pulled to tie them back in to the repair/replacement we recommended. That high of a pressure reading indicates that you need a pressure reducing valve. The slab leak repair would have fixed all the issues in your house, not just the one that was leaking, and needed to be done because of the pressure on all the plumbing in your home. pressure is not good for plumbing. The only thing that was not "firm" about our pricing was the condition of the flanges for the toilets - we had no way of knowing if they were good or bad, but still gave you a prices for both options. A FIRM price, in writing, before any work was done. You wanted to talk to your insurance company to find out what they would cover. For the price you paid, I assume you had their plumber come out, make a spot repair, not replace the PRV, and because you think that is similar to what we were offering, you feel ripped off. Far from true. We gave you an option for the spot repair that was comparable to what you had done (in price also), and an option to replace that would have solved all your issues (even the ones you couldn't see yet). I I am wrong, and you had a plumber that installed a PRV, replaced your entire line, and warrantied it for as long as we would have, then please have him call me because he probably needs a job since his business has failed due to underpricing jobs. We did a fair job for you, doing exactly what we said we would do, for a fair price, and we presented everything to you before any work was started. Do you really think your rating was fair? You didn't even bother to rate on anything but price, but didn't compare fairly to see if the price was too high. Shame on you. I hope you get a PRV added to your home soon, because that high of a pressure is causing problems with all of your plumbing. Those issues, when they surface, will cost more than a spot repair, and could have been avoided by having this work done. I am sorry you see no value in this, but I assure you, you will soon enough. I sincerely hope you have a blessed and wonderful day!

The plumber did a good job with the clog but sat in his van for 30 minutes and wrote the most unbelievable, I still can't believe it, estimate for repair that was completely and utterly up to the line in SCAM. Then asked if I'd like to finance the project for another absurd higher number. It was time for him to leave. 2 initial estimates were done the following day and came in at half of his estimate. Crook.

After we spoke with you regarding your assessment of our service, you told us that you did not believe our diagnosis to be correct. When we followed up with you, it was determined that the other plumber you called out told you the same thing we did, but had a lower price. However, they also had a warranty that was nowhere near as good or long as ours, and in the absence of value all that remains is price. I am sorry that professional work, done by a plumbing professional, with an outstanding warranty has no value to you, and I hope you are happy with your cheaper repair. Just remember, you get what you pay for.

You called us out, we came as promised, and on time. The water damage you had was extensive enough that we recommended a tile man & an abatement company to come out before the proper diagnosis and repair could be made. When you had insurance questions, we sent another tech who was able to diagnose the cause of the problem, and you declined the repair. The only charge to you was for one service fee to cover the after hours emergency call. How is it fair to rate us like this when the facts do not support your assertions? Please call in to the office if you have any questions, and we will be happy to discuss the matter in person with you. Until then, I hope you have a wonderful & blessed day!

I was just not impressed. He gave me this $18,000 a year to put three toilets and stuff. It was totally ridiculous. They did some stuff, but he did not do anything what he said he was going to do. It was just a big hassle. I do not appreciate that at all. I did not like it. I think they charged me extra. The price that he quoted me is just beyond ridiculous. Their punctuality was alright.

I looked at the call you set up with us, and then went back and confirmed from your original call in recording, that what you actually called us out for, in order, was: 1) clogged toilet from your grandson using to much toilet paper, 2) a second toilet that was running a little too long, and 3) the tub drain was slow. what we found when we arrived was that the whole house was stopped up. After restoring flow by running your main line we discovered that the cast iron pipe is bad and cannot be repaired. It also had several bellies in the line. This is the main cause for your issue, and you declined repair. The toilets are old and in poor flushing shape, and you declined repair. The drain for the tub we actually declined to look at because your son had taken it apart and made a mess of it. We did not create the bellies in your line, and they will not go away on their own. Any professional plumber will tell you that. Cast iron pipe in the ground has a finite life, and yours is well past the end of it's usefulness. Any professional plumber will tell you that. We offered to repair the issues professionally, by a professional plumber, for a fair price, with the best warranty around. You declined. What more could we have done? I do not think you assessment was very fair. Please call in to the office if you would like to discuss this further. Thank you!

We called on a Saturday and they said they would have someone out. When a man did come out, he wanted to charge us $1000 for a product we did not need, rather than doing what we did need. When I told him we did not need that service, he got in his car and left. So I called back into the company and left an after-hours call for the owner. Of course nobody called till Monday. Our drains were clogged on Saturday. So nobody called us back until Monday morning. They said they would send somebody out and get it fixed real quick for us. The guy came out and did the job and then told us he was cutting his price way down and it was only $463. So, we paid it just to get him out of the house.

According to the plumbing code for the State of Texas all new water heaters are to be installed with a floodstop..This is fairly new as the codes change constantly, and perhaps the inspector was not yet aware the floodstop is now required. Please call in to the office and we would be happy to remove your floodstop and refund part of your bill. We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee, and would have done this if you had called us, but I see no record that you called back in after the install. Be aware that your warranty status may change if you have the stop removed, and the permit will have to be adjusted as this is the current requirement. I am sorry this was not clearly explained to you, and I am very sorry that the inspector led you to believe this.

Easy to schedule, prompt at arrival. Then during problem inspection I was told they will replace only the supply line for which they wanted to charge over $200 on top of the service fee. The plumber said he would not do the re-install with my T Fitting part which connects a hand sprayer (Bidet). So basically after he would replace the supply line, I would have to do that other part myself (again remove, add the T Fitting for the hand sprayer, and then put it all back). They would only honor the $25 AngiesList coupon if I got the $200+ repair. Not on just the service fee of $69. The coupon doesn't mention it wouldn't apply to just the service fee. When I scheduled the service, I wasn't told the coupon wouldn't apply to the service fee. When I called them to complain about this, their manager that called me back and essentially told me it is like McDonald Hot Coffee where people are supposed to know it is hot and that I am supposed to know they won't honor the coupon even if it doesn't mention that it doesn't apply to service fee.
Description of Work: Home visit, problem inspection, and provide overprice quote which I rejected, and then had to pay their $69 service (visit) fee and the AngiesList $25 off for mentioning AngiesList was not honored.

I am the Manager that called you back, and your comment here is nothing like the conversation we had. I told you that I had listened to the recording of your initial phone call, and you were clearly told that the service fee was additional to the work that was done, and that it was to guarantee your appointment time. If we are late, we pay you, so we take our arrival times seriously, and do not leave you waiting at home all day like some plumbers do. The AL coupon that we discussed does not apply to service fees, it applies to work done, and it clearly says that on the AL website. It is also important to state that this is their coupon, not ours, and while we honor valid coupons, we also are careful to inspect them for what they say. Please check out the coupon again. Even though all of this was done, I still offered you a free service call on your next visit. Since this was posted after our conversation is that offer still valid? Yes, it is. We presented everything to you up front & in writing because we treat you fairly. Please extend that same courtesy to us.

While you may not agree with it, most companies charge a service fee for sending a trained professional to your home. It costs money to get him there (gas, truck, tools, training, etc). We usually waive the service fee with repair for first time customers too. As for the price you stated I have to admit, I am a bit confused....what we show was much lower for the work you specifically mentioned. The price you mentioned also included pulling & resetting the toilet for access to replace the rotten flange underneath that was causing your issue, and the associated concrete work that went with it. This work included the best warranty on work in the Metroplex! I am sorry that all repairs are not easy & inexpensive, but they would have been repaired right, by a professional, with a fantastic warranty to back it up. Please call us when your next issue comes up, and I will make sure you get a free service visit. We are not out to collect service fees, just solve problems for our clients!

It was terrible. They didn't do anything. I paid the money and I didn't get any service. When they came, they told me that it was going to require $5000 or some ridiculous figure. There was a lot of water where the meter was and they told me that they could not do anything and so they left. What I had to do was, get the water out. I dug a hole and fixed it myself. So, it was terrible. They drove away and nothing was done. I just paid them that money to come out and do nothing. They didn't fix it. They didn't resolve any issue. They perhaps wanted me to bypass the leak and get them to run new pipes. They quoted me between $3000 and $5000. I said, "No, I can't afford that," and they left. I would never use them and I would not recommend them.

I know it can be frustrating when things go wrong with your plumbing. The AL coupon made us coming out for you a free estimate, and based on the conditions and the location of the leak, the cost for repair was higher than you were expecting, and I am sorry for that. Once our professional plumber examined your problem, he gave you the exact price for the repair in writing before any work was done. If it had been approved by you this work would have had a permit pulled (as is required), and would have come with a superb warranty on all work performed. The quote was given to you at no cost, and once you declined to have any work was done (we gave you several options, and some were a lot less expensive), no cost was passed to you, and you were not asked to pay for anything. We came when we said we would, did exactly what you asked us to do (and approved of), and did it at no cost to you. The extent of the damage to your piping is something we are not responsible for until we repair it. I am sorry that you had this experience, and please note that your AL coupon is still valid.....If you call us for your next plumbing issue I will make sure you get taken care of.
