We first found a picture of the home we wanted to build. I knew several people who had used Stater Construction (Owner is Brice Stater). The reviews were good, so we decided to go with him. Brice helped us with initially consulting about the architect, the design, and extimated costs. We had the architect add stuff to the original design which drove the cost up. Brice was very up front about this and told us that the cost would be higher than his original estimate. We knew that because of the stuff we added, but it was nice that he kept us informed. After waiting two months to get our banking stuff in order, construction was started around May 15th. Brice told us it would take about 4 months to complete. He also built our Pergola, which we will use to entain guests and hosts weddings. The pergola was done first and looks fabulous. It was exactly what we wanted, and the price was less than we expected. The house construction proceeded quickly. There were very few days where something was not being done. Brice did a good job of organizing the subcontractors. The house was substantially complete by September 20th - right at 4 months! The best thing about Brice was feeling like we could trust him. This was a huge project for us and we worried about a lot of the details. In the end, our worries were put aside when we saw how everything came together. One thing we should have done is spent more time looking at the plans. There were a couple of suprises because we did not check the plans closely and had to make some last minute decisions. Brice does a good job of organizing and building, and his vision is great. Just remember to ask questions early and often and keep the communications flowing so you have less surprises. The only complaint we had was the amount of trash left behind by some of the subcontractors. Amarillo is windy and this left our land and surrounding land littered with trash from time to time. Brice helped us with this by having a clean up crew come out a couple of different times to pick up trash. When we were evaluating contractors, one person I talked to did not use Stater Construction because he was not the cheapest. My wife and I were not looking for the "cheapest" - we wanted trustworthyness and quality! That is exactly what we got with this company. Brice came back to check on our house recently. It is nice to know someone cares about their product even after the sale is complete. I recommend Stater Construction if you want a great pergola, great remodel, or a fabulous new home construction.
