Description of Work: Jaime's Drywall aka Jaime Contreras did two jobs for us. We remodeled our kitchen and living room. First his crew textured and painted our living room, foyer, dining room and kitchen. End result was okay but process was horrid. They did not care what kind of mess was made and did not clean up very much. I actually had to take a putty knife to foyer and dining room floor and scrape up excess mud before wood floor could be installed. Old carpet was in living room and we had to take that up two weeks before new floor was installed because it was so full of texture mud and dust. There were always 4-8 guys working and that was too many for the area. Got to admit they got it done in a timely manner - it was just a MESS! | |Also our contractor subbed out to Jaime to stain and varnish the new kitchen cabinets. Contractor built the cabinets and had professional cabinet guy build the doors. Jaime insisted on taking the base cabinets and then later the doors and drawers to his shop to stain and varnish and did not do that job at our house. From the beginning, we complained that the bottom shelf of every cabinet was not smooth (in fact I used a paper towel to try to clean dust on one shelf and it was so rough the paper towel ripped) and Jaime said he would take care of that. (When he finally brought shelves and drawers they were very smooth.) We also did not like that the cabinets were much darker in color than the sample of stain we had selected. He told us that it was the wood our contractor used and we told him the sample was the same wood used for the cabinet. Basically he blew us off about stain color. Then he delivered the doors and drawers. Every single door was scratched or blemished in some way - a scratch after the varnish was applied or no stain in the crevices. He said he would take care of that. We also complained about dust in base cabinets and he told us he would clean them before putting another coat of varnish. When he finally came two weeks later to make bottom shelves smooth, he did not clean but put varnish over the dirt. When he put this coat of varnish on, he did not cover the floors and thus got varnish on brand new tile that was installed three days before. AND the bottom shelves were still rough! | |The final straw happened ten days after his attempt to make bottom cabinet shelves smooth. Because two of the doors had the hinges installed in the wrong place (a pull out drawer couldn't be installed because of hinge placement) our contractor rebuilt the two doors and stained and varnished them himself. The contractor used the same can of stain that Jaime left here at the house and the doors were a total different color. The new doors matched almost exactly the sample piece of wood we had picked stain color from. When contractor called Jaime in to see difference in wood color, Jaime had many excuses but finally took all the doors and drawers and said he would sand then restain them and come back and work on base cabinets. Two more weeks went by and he had not done any work at all on doors on drawers. So our contractor has hired someone else to come in and resend, stain and varnish all the base cabinets, doors and drawers again. Our contractor is actually losing money on our job. But he stands behind his work and knows he will never use Jaime again! | |Since I do not stain and varnish for a living, I don't know exactly what happened. But from the appearance of our cabinets, I suspect that Jaime had one of his rookies stain the cabinets and they just painted on the stain and never wiped it off. I really wish I could show pictures of how bad they looked. Honestly it looked like someone did a bad job of painting the cabinets brown - they did not look stained at all - just painted. There is one place in the trim where there are very obvious water stains. Don't know if water was dropped before or after stain but there are circles where stain is much darker. | |I would never use or recommend Jaime's Drywall for either texture/paint or stain/varnish. I really think he knows what he is doing for texture/paint but doesn't really care about the mess he makes or if you are happy with job or not. He should never, ever take on stain/varnish job because he really doesn't know what he is doing. Also he kept us hang in for six weeks saying he was going to fix the mistakes he had made. So I have been without a kitchen for six extra weeks now!
