We picked out countertops for two bathrooms. They told us to go ahead and get the bathrooms painted first, which we did. When the painting was complete, we called Amarillo Marble and told them we were ready to have the countertops installed. They sent a guy to take the measurements and a date was set. The day before they said they wouldn't be able to make it and that it would be the next day. I changed my schedule again to accommodate them. When the installer showed up he could tell that they had cut one of the pieces wrong. He went back to the shop to get it corrected. Soon after that, Amarillo Marble called and said this installation was beyond their expertise. He said we should've hired contractors to install. Never before had they given us any indication that they could not do this job. Needless to say, I fired them.

had to call them back multiple times just to set up an appointment for an estimate. each time I called I was told they were busy and asked if I could call back. When I finally did get an estimate it was not itemized as I had requested. I ended up going with another company because I just didn't feel like they wanted my business

After an on site inspection of the job to be done, I was provided a written estimate which included tear out of existing structures and installation of cultured marble in the shower, and a whirlpool tub and tub surround. A soap dish and shampoo bottle holder were included in the written estimate. Workmen came on the scheduled date and performed the tear out. On the scheduled installation date, I was told there was a "problem with the whirlppol tub" and that "the tub would have to be re-poured." On the day the marble was actually then installed, the workmen left the job site mid-afternoon, and told me they would return to finish the following day. They did complete the job the next day. However, several major problems were left behind. 1. No soap dish was installed in the tub area, as was included in the estimate. 2. The workmen didn't clean up after themselves, and left behind dusty, dirty marble. 3 .Black, greasy stains on the carpet in two locations and 4. A large black trash sack full of construction tear out materials left for me to dispose of. During the installation, I noted the installers were about to install new marble over old, water rotted 2 X 4 boards and water damaged sheet rock in the shower area! I had to stop installation, and insist they tear out the blackened, water damaged parts and replace them, before the new marble was installed over it. (Water damage was the reason the entire shower and tub remodel was being done in the first place!) The day after the installation was completed, "Kenny" the owner of the company and the man who had provided the written estimate to me, telephoned me. When I returned his call, he abruptly and rudely blurted out the reason for his call: "Yeah, I want my money." When I asked what the final total was, it was $700 over the written estimate. When I asked why so much more than the original estimate, he said that while he had included the tear out of the shower area, he'd "forgotten" to include the tear out of the tub and tub surround area in the estimate. It seemed to me that including the tear out was basic to any estimate of new marble installation. (I suspect I was being asked to pay for the re-pour of the whirlpool tub, which was their fault, not mine.) In the end, we came to a compromise of about $300 over the original estimate, and I related to him my many complaints and disatisfactions, including the mess and stains left behind, the lack of a soap dish installation, and the fact that his men would have installed more than $5,000 of new marble over old, water rotted sheet rock and 2 X 4 boards had I not stopped them and insisted they replace it. The bottom line is that with my constant vigil and oversight, they did a nice job. I love the look of my new marble and the seams are done well. They have promised (in writing) to install a soap dish in the tub area the next time I am off work for a day. But the owner "Kenny's" rude demand for his money and his workmen's attempt to install marble over water soaked and damaged materials calls into question this company's professionalism, ethics, and knowledge of their product and its proper installation. Would I recommend them to anyone else in the future? A resounding NO!
Description of Work: I had loose ceramic tile in a corner shower stall, with water leaking behind it, damaging the sheet rock and surrounding structures. Amarillo Marble was contracted to tear out the existing ceramic tile shower and separate tub and tub surround, including any water damaged sheet rock and 2 X 4 boards. They were to install cultured marble in the shower, install a cultured marble whirlpool tub, and cultured marble tub surround.
