Things started to go wrong when the man John Vaughn, owner, introduced as the job supervisor stopped showing up, despite the clause in the contract stating that a supervisor would be present at all times. Then his guys started showing up later and later. On one occasion, John knowingly over billed me for 2x the hours he told me he was going to cap that particular part of the job at. When I called him, he said he expected me to catch the fraud and ask him about it. Had I not caught it, he'd have happily cheated me. I eventually found out the supervisor had been replaced with someone who I had noticed working a few days before, and who had installed and left a bunch of broken windows that I had to call John to point out and have replaced. Not exactly adequate supervision if he can't catch his own mistakes. My requests to have the original supervisor restored were ignored. Part of the project required an asbestos abatement and dealing with contractors John didn't bring with him. John wasn't even supposed to be involved, but inserted himself, and made such a mess of things that the abatement company owner told me he wasn't sure his technician would even work with John, and offered me a thousand dollars off of their bill to not have to deal with John Vaughn again. After seeing his complete failure in dealing with other contractors, and having had to supervise and correct all of the work throughout the project myself, I confronted John with his failures and told him I wanted to restrict the scope of his responsibility to his employees only, and assume responsibility of overseeing other sunbcontractors myself. John's immediate reaction was to quit the job. Now he owes me a large amount of money from the deposit I paid him, and for the guys I'm having to pay to fix the work he did that is falling apart after 2 months and a rain. John admits he owes me money, but says I have to wait 60 days to talk about it. Now I'm having to pay lawyers to go after him to recover whatever I can. To top it all off, after I hired a new contractor, I called the city, and found out John didn't pull permits for any of the work he did, which included over 30 hours of electrical. The city had no idea anything was even being done. This guy is a complete fraud that depends on his 50% deposit and contract to keep clients from running him of, once they see what a sham he really is.
Description of Work: I hired John Vaughn and Taylor County Construction for a commercial remodel on a building being turned into a gym. He performed very little of the intended work, but what was performed included drywall, painting, raising a grid ceiling, and replacing old moulding and broken windows.
