They service our two units annually and give a two unit discount. We don't have a contract per se but they will call us to remind us if we haven't called for service ourselves. Very convenient!
Description of Work: Melvin Martin installed the heating and cooling units in our house, a house we build on speculation and a house build for a customer. All prices were good and we had no problems with all three installations. We have had our units serviced annually and have had two emergency calls in 9 years. They were prompt in their response and the repairs were reasonable. The repairs were not major-on one unit squirrels ate the wire and the other repair was the blower in the downstairs unit. We have a two story home and had two units installed to heat and cool both floors independently. We have had no problems with Mr. Martin or his employees and have no reservations in recommending him.

Having smelled gas near the old unit outside, I called this company, which had installed the unit for the previous owners of our house 14 years ago. Over the years, the company provided good repair service, such as when lightning struck the unit. This time, when I called at the end of October, the repairman, Justin Romano, said we needed a new unit and could get an energy-efficient one with a rebate if installed before the end of the year. I paid by check on Oct. 30, and the check was cashed the next banking day. After many calls from us and excuses from Melvin Martin, not to mention several service calls when electrical repairs being made as part of a renovation project would somehow cause the heater to go out, the new unit was installed yesterday, the 21st of January. To this company's credit, we were not charged for the service calls made (probably 3 of them in 3 months), but we also spent two nights at two different times with no heat in 20 degree weather. In other words, the service man, Justin Romano, would not come in the early evening but waited until the next day. After the unit was installed yesterday, Martin, very friendly and full of praise for the new unit, called at 5 to see if it was working. It was, and I said so. By 6:30 p.m., however, I noticed it was not coming on. When we called Martin, he grouchily referred us to Romano, who did not return our call until we had called Martin again. When he called back, Romano was rude, implying that we were trying to make trouble. He said it was inconvenient for him to drive 40 minutes at 8 p.m., saying "Don't you have alternate forms of heat?" I found this extremely annoying, since we had paid over $5000 three months ago and waited three months, only to have the new unit break down within hours. Romano was not part of the installation crew. This morning Romano arrived around 10, having said he'd be here at 8, and said there was a broken wire, probably stripped, he said, when taken from the box. He fixed it in 5 minutes and was gone. Now we wait to see if we can indeed get the rebate a month after the end of 2010 and to see if the unit performs as it should. I do not plan to call Martin Heating and Air again.
Description of Work: Installation of new 3 ton Rheem package unit.
