We used Emco-Williams 15 years ago and had absolutely no problem. Everything went smooth and we still love the countertops. Based on this good previous experience, we decided to use them again for a new house that we were remodeling. Absolutely nothing went well. We went to their Sevierville office on March 9th 2022 and found granite that was ideal for what we were looking for. We chose African Ivory that they had in stock. Later I was looking at photos online of African Ivory countertops and noticed that there is a lot of variation in slabs. On March 24th I sent our sales person a photo of the slab that we chose and told him that I just wanted to make sure that they had the correct slab. He responded and said that it is the correct slab and that it had our name on it and no one else could take it. The granite was installed on April 20th, but the colors did not look like what I was expecting. The slab that we chose had a lot of dark (looked black) and tan. The countertops installed were a lot lighter and had very little dark and did not have the "movement" of the slab that we chose. I realize that it can look different when cut into countertops , so I studied the pictures and video of the slab that we chose and could not find any of the identifiable patterns in the countertops that they installed for us. I messaged the sales person and told them that it did not look like the slabs that we chose and he assured me that it was what I chose. They had to come back and finish the installation on April 29th and I told the sales person that I wanted to look at the countertops because I still do not think that they are what we chose. He assured me that it was definitely what we ordered but just looked different after it is cut. That same day he called to let me know that he was on his way, but said that they had compared the pictures of the slab that I chose and the finished countertops and that it was not the same. He said that they would give me a good discount or replace them at a discounted price, but that ultimately it would be the owner's decision. He said the owner is very fair and they want the customer to be happy. I called the owner on Monday and he offered me a small discount and told me that they were really nice countertops, even if they were not what I chose. He told me that if I wanted to choose another granite that there would be no discount and I would have to wait an additional 6 weeks to get them installed. I spoke with the sales person and he said he would talk with the owner and get back with me. They sent me photos of a similar granite that had very little of the dark (black) in it and said they would replace it at full price after waiting an additional six weeks. They wanted me to come to their office and look at the different granite - at my expense. I would have to miss work and drive 45 minutes each way. I told the sales person that if I had to wait 6 more weeks for a different granite that I expected a discount on the new granite because of the problems. He said he would talk to the owner and tell him that we need to have another discussion, but the owner never called me back. On May 5th, the sales person said that they wanted me to take they granite that they had in stock, wait six weeks, pay full price and they would cover having the plumbing redone since we have been putting the plumber off until we have the granite done. They also calculated 70 square feet of granite and said that they do not give customers any of the remnants since you only pay for what they install. We calculated what they installed a couple of time and we came up with only 64 square feet. The sales person said it didn't really matter since we had already agreed to a price. We found another granite at one of their suppliers that we liked but they said it was $5 more per square foot and the owner would not do it unless we paid the difference. Pretty much we had to take what they installed or pay more and the prices have increased since we picked the granite initially. We finally decided to take keep the granite and they offered a little more discount - and we just wanted it to be over because they we not the least bit cooperative. On June 3rd, they came out to finish the install and brought an additional piece that we were waiting on (at least they did not charge us more for this additional piece). I had to leave work, again, to meet him and the piece that they brought was not polished on the correct side so he had to take it back to the factory. The sales person did the final install, and I told him that we were not happy with the white silicone around our black farmhouse sink and that the original installer said it would dry translucent. He said that they are using a new silicone and agreed that it does not look good. When he returned later that afternoon with the piece polished correctly (and I left work again) he said that he mentioned the white silicone to the owner and told me that I could go back over it with something darker if I wanted to, but he did not offer for them to do it. This was the worst experience ever and I think that the new owner does not care about the customers like the previous owner did. I am shocked at how many problems that we had and did not get the granite that we ordered and they were willing to make no concessions to get us something that we liked.

Response from Emco Williams inc.
Thank you for your feedback. I am happy that your first experience with us was such a success that you came back. Obviously, your second experience with us was not. Again, let me apologize about the mix-up with the slabs. This was an honest mistake. We had African Ivory slabs on both sides of the driveway and we tagged the wrong slabs. This was a mistake that we owned up to. To make it right, we were able to obtain two more slabs from the same lot you had chosen. We know how important it is to put your eyes on the actual slab and even though we sent pictures, we still needed you to see them in person. We were prepared to recut your order and reinstall it with these slabs. We do understand that this was an inconvenience for you and would never expect you to miss work. Your sales rep would have been happy to make arrangements that would have been convenient for you. Choosing a different granite would have extended your re-install time because what you were looking at was not what we had in our inventory, would have required us to source it, bring it in, and have you come look at it to ensure you liked it before we cut it. You were told correctly that you were only charged for what was used from the slabs that were cut. With regards to how we measure, we use a digitizer. The measurements are then placed into drawings in an auto-cad program and entered in the computer that runs our saw. The saw then cuts the pieces according to the drawing. The square footage of the pieces will total what was measured with the digitizer. All jobs are done the same way and include a printout that we keep in your folder of the actual drawings and measurements. Regarding the caulk that was used around your sink, we are in agreement with you that it is unacceptable and would like to correct that issue. Please reach out at your earliest convenience so that we can determine a time to correct the caulk. Again, my sincerest apologies this experience was not up to the level of service that our customers have come to expect and should expect.

The showroom in Knoxville was closed when I arrived during normal business hours. I called the main office and made an appointment with the salesman to meet me at the showroom. I had to make an extra trip back to Knoxville the next day for the appointment. When I called, I told the salesman specifically what I wanted, a white quartz countertop. I had a brand name and color for the quartz I wanted. He brought a sample of the one I wanted and another sample for me to look at. He gave me a quote on the cost and made a copy of the Angie's list coupon for 5% off. He said would call me back after he checked with the owner on the price and the coupon. He did not call me back. I called him twice after waiting several days after he said he would call me. When I called back the second time, he said they would not honor the coupon and the price was higher than he had quoted. I don't know why he did not have the correct price originally since he knew what I wanted. They were not professional and did not honor their coupon. I decided to go with a company that is more responsive and professional.

On July 6, 2015, I visited showroom to inquire about getting a granite countertop. The first gentleman could not help me, but Michael Hahn arrive and said he could help. I informed Mr. Hahn this was a small vanity and asked for timelines. Mr. Hahn said, if I picked it up, I could have it in two weeks (July 20) if I was able to bring measurements, the sink, and deposit by the close of business this day which I did. Later that week (July 9th) , Emco Williams called and said they had copied over the measurements when a copy of the check was made and would I provide the measurements again, which I did on July 10th. I asked if this would delay the delivery date. The person I talked with stated one day would not make a difference. At 7:30 am on July 20th, I called to get a pickup time for the granite. The person at Emco Williams couldn't find the order. I called back around 9:30 am and the female who answered the phone said no order was filled within 2 weeks, the minimum time is 3 weeks and usually 4 weeks. At 9:40 am, I called Michael Hahn. Mr. Hahn first blamed the Emco Williams administrative assistant for covering over the measurements, then said ?Bill? shouldn?t have told me two weeks (but that was Mr. Hahn's promise) then said they should have expedited the order to have it ready. Then Mr. Hahn said he would check with the owner and call me right back. I didn't hear from Mr. Hahn until almost 4:00 pm. Mr. Hahn promised the granite top would be ready at the end of the week (July 24th). I scheduled with Mr. Hahn to pick up the top Monday morning (July 27th) at 8 ,am (one week after promised). On Sunday night around 9:00 pm , July 26th, Mr. Hahn texted me that he just checked with the owner. He wanted me to pass along that we could pick top up any time after 10:00 am on July 27th. On Monday, July 27, 2015, at 10:00 am, My husband arrived to pick up the top. No one would go out to meet him. Finally Emco Williams administrative assistant came out and told him the guy who was to do the top wasn?t there. Emco Williams would be glad to deliver. My husband informed Emco Williams that there there would be no one there to accept the delivery. Emco Williams administrative assistant said it would be ready at 3:00 pm, which it finally was. We ended up having to reschedule our remodeling contractor two times over this. The countertop was done as I expected but there was nothing outstanding around the product.

Description of Work: They made and installed 2 cultered marble counter tops in a bathroom. The products are really nice. However they would not return phone calls on numerous occasions. It took 2 trips to the store to get them to come measure for the tops. They made a sample and never called to tell me it was ready. I went 2 weeks in a row to make sure they had the order right. Both times they said it would be 3 weeks until it was ready. They made 1 of the counters wrong and it took 2 more weeks to get it replaced and I had to call to see if it was ready. On both trips to put the counters in they came at a different time than we had agreed on. The only time they did call was after they sent a bill. Then they called 3 days in a row wanting to be paid.

they promptly came and made an estimate. We found exactly what we wanted in their stone yard and we also picked out a new sink. They installed the counter tops and sink within 3 weeks and did a great job. We are very pleased with the results and the price. We expect to replace our bathroom vanity tops in the near future and will use EMCO-Williams again.

We were very pleased with all aspects of this job. We met this company at a Home Show in Knoxville and asked them to come out and give us an estimate. We were happy with the estimate, so we hired them. They were punctual, professional, and did what they said they would do. They cleaned up everything very well afterwards. I can highly recommend them.

This is an excellent company with which to do business. Everyone involved with the job, from the sales person/estimator to the installers were courteous, timely and very professional. The estimate provided was competitive with the others I had solicited. I chose EMCO Williams because they were local, had good references and have been in business for many years. The estimated turn around time on the job was 15 working days. We received a call in less than 10 days to let us know that the counter top had been fabricated and could be installed earlier than anticipated. The installers put down a protective material on which to set their equipment. They were very neat and careful.

We chose Emco-Williams over other companies because the estimator was very knowledgeable, the price was good and they were willing to do everything we asked. This was an L-shaped shower and not an easy installation. The installers were very professional and arrived on time. They did not rush the job and took two days to complete. The outcome was fantastic! We were very pleased. We would highly recommend them.

Due to some leaking we decided to completely gut and re-do my daughter's bathroom. My husband performed the demo but we had Emco Williams and their subcontractor Master Renovations replace the tub and surround with a cultured marble tub and walls. They installed the green board, re-ran the plumbing, installed the cultured marble tub and surround over a period of two days. Emco was very easy to work with and got it done in a timely fashion. We have used them in the past, and plan to use them on our next bathroom project. We dealt with Mike Hahn in the Knoxville office and he was very helpful in giving us suggestions on how to reduce our cost, however we ultimately were more comfortable having them do all the work. And as a result we are very happy with the final product.

We went to the showroom and discussed our project with the owner. He showed us a very wide selection of granite at the showroom and we found a slab that we really liked. We made an appointment for him to come to our house and take measurements. He arrived right on time and had measured and given us an exact quote within 15 minutes. Very friendly and professional. We agreed to have them do the job and made an appointment for the following week. The two men who did our installation were also friendly and clean cut and professional. They did an awesome job and we are totally happy with everything they did for us. Our kitchen looks 100% better and we love the looks and untillity of the granite. Our new faucets and garbage disposer are a definate upgrade. When they left our house, all the old materials were gone and they left the kitchen showroom clean. This is one of my best experiences with a contractor of any sort.
Description of Work: Removed and hauled away old counter tops, sink, and garbage disposal unit. Installed granite counter tops, stainless under mounted sink, new faucets and soap dispenser(we supplied) new garbage disposal unit(which I supplied) and connected all plumbing and electrical.
