The team of Noah with lead Jerry performed the repair and were professional and courteous. When a problem arose at the end another technician, Doug, was called in who quickly diagnosed the problem and had the unit running as expected in a few minutes. I used A-1 Finchum for at least eight (8) years, to provide annual service to the heat pump that came with the house. The last time they were here was in April 2011 - the heat pump was replaced by another company, in August 2011. There were never any problems with A-1 Finchum's personnel or the service provided. Indeed, I could not have been more pleased. In less than four (4) years, I began having a problem with the newer heat pump: air wasn't circulating, especially downstairs - surfaces are covered in mold; humidity rose from 52% to 65%, downstairs. A friend, whom I trust implicitly, suggested it was probably the freon being low. I sent A-1 Finchum a message through its Web site. They did respond, requesting times of availability - which I provided on their Web page communication. They wrote back indicating that they must have a phone number, so the technician can call before coming out to the house. I told them I did not have a phone but that I could give them my church's phone # and I would go over there and hang around until the technician called to say he/she was on the way to my house - only 10 minutes away. I never received a response to that suggestion. On October 8, 2015, I wrote a letter to Mr. Finchum - the letter and envelope were marked Personal and Confidential (bold, caps and underlined). As of this date (October 25, 2015), I never heard from him, even though I provided my email address in the letter. I must conclude that Mr. Finchum doesn't care about his customers - present, past, or future. After reading the comments on Angie's List, that were from 2014, I can only deduce that I need to stay away from them.

It was so so. I wasn't impressed with them. They did the job and didn't do anything wrong. They just opened it up and said everything looks fine. That was it. At least pretend that you are doing some work. They came right on time.

I have them come out every year to check the system. The price for them to do that is $75. On the thermostat they include their companies information, so I can call them right away and I find that to be very helpful. They test everything, even how long it takes the house to heat up. They answer all my questions too. They always come out right way, when they say they will. I have not had any problems with the system so far. It is nice that this company is local to my area.
Description of Work: They installed my AC unit about 8 years ago. I got a better AC unit at a better price, since the one that I wanted, was not in stock at the time.

The technician used many scare tactics to try to get me to buy a new unit. First, I was charged $89 to come for a visit to and quot;diagnoseand quot; the problem even when I told them I just needed refrigerant. Then, I was told that I was 4 lbs low and the unit would just go out on me in the middle of the summer. Then, I was told that I had rare refrigerant R22 and it costs about $89 per lb. Then, I was told that a new unit would help my house sell because inspectors look at the age of your AC unit. I told him that I would discuss with my wife and get back with them. Filling with refrigerant was going to run almost $500, so I wanted to make a good decision on buying a new one before I acted. He said that his and quot;designersand quot; would be calling me to schedule a time to come out for installation. I said I had not chosen that option yet. I called another company and he came out and filled with 2 lbs of R22 at $18 per lb, so my bill was less than $100 and my house was cool by nightfall. It has been working fine ever since. It has a small leak, so I will have to refill it again, but that is much cheaper than a $5K unit I was quoted from A-1. BTW, you can't tell how low the unit is on refrigerant until you hook up the tank and weigh it afterwards, so I don't know how the A-1 technician thought it was 4 lbs low.

See above. Very dissatisfied with this company from purchase through latest service. Will not do business with them again.
Description of Work: I called to ask for a routine service with inspection and cleaning and to investigate a knocking noise in the outside unit of a 9 year old Rheem system. Was told the unit is discontinued. They can no longer order parts and the refrigerant is leaking slowly and will just continue to cause problems and recommended a new unit within 2 years. This would all sound reasonable except that A-1 Funchum knows that they sold me an inferior lemon product in 2005 and it has been nothing but problems ever since with repeated calls for service. The 5-year warranty has expired, of course, and I have no recourse with either A-Finchum or Rheem. I was sold a piece of crap unit at nearly $5000 that has lasted half of its normal life expectancy. The service representative who came today offered no explanation, no apologies, and not even empathy. Kept insisting that HE didn't sell me the unit. I had to remind him he was wearing the A-1 Finchum uniform and therefore represented the company. I will likely be purchasing another AC system within the next couple of years but I can assure you it will NOT be from A-Finchum.

We purchased a new home in 2003. It had a NEW Goodman brand HVAC, (3.5 ton / 92,000 BTU). Granted it has been working for 10 years, but we were surprised to have the problems A-1 F. said existed. We have ample house insulation, and we’ve always tried to be energy conscious --not overusing either the A/C or furnace. Earlier, in April, we had our yearly A/C check-up. We were told by the repairman that it had a slow Freon leak. Because of the new regulations, he had to replace the refrigerant with the newer, gov’t regulated product. He also advised us that the A/C would need replacement soon. Someone from their company called about a week later --wanting to come out and sell us a new unit. We declined. The A/C ran fine throughout the rest of the year. (It was warm through early November). We then had our annual fall check-up. We were told everything was fine. Approx. 3 weeks later our furnace stopped working. We called the company Friday (Dec. 6), and a repairman came out, said it needed a “flame sensor”. They would have to get one from a parts store –which was closed over the weekend. On Monday morning (9th) a different repairman came out, said it was NOT the flame sensor, but the heat exchanger was cracked, and pointed to a small dark streak. He told us we needed a new HVAC. After he left we called the company to complain about this sudden change of diagnosis. The first repairman called us back immediately to say there was and quot;no crack, it must be a mistakeand quot;, and that and quot;someone would come out to recheckand quot;. Several hours later we discovered two men in our backyard ‘looking’ at the HVAC –they did NOT ring the door-bell, knock on the door or phone to say they were there and on our property. When my husband went out to talk to them, they again pointed to the dark streak and said the furnace could not be repaired. Even though it took over 3 days to get a repair part, they then said they could have a “brand new HVAC installed that afternoon” for us. We said NO. It was upsetting that they were again pushing a new machine on us. We did purchase a replacement HVAC from another company, and we did note that there was now a definite indentation in the area of the small dark streak. It is certainly possible that we did have a crack in the furnace, but --in that event-- both company repairmen were wrong in their original diagnosis (of leaky refrigerant and flame sensor). We didn’t have any problems with the A/C, and before the two men showed up (we have no way of knowing how long they were there, or what they were doing to it) —we don’t know if that really was a small crack or simply a dirt streak found during the earlier Monday ‘repair’. We also know that some from their company are incompetent. We just don’t know who to believe.

We have rental properties and had two HVAC units go down in the same week. A-1 is prompt, efficient and handled the replacement of both units with minimal inconvenience to our tenants and to us. They are not the cheapest company in town, but you get almost immediate response time even on weekends. We were very pleased with the level of service they provided.

The technician followed up exactly as he said he would, got me a price on the part and labor, and when I approved it, he was actually early from a previous appointment and did the service. He also let me know about a maintenance agreement deal with his company that was being offered at a special price which would provide me with a substantial discount on the service and would provide me with an additional and quot;freeand quot; service call for any other problems I might have for the remainder of the year. A great recommendation! The technician was honest, punctual, professional and courteous. He stayed with the job from the initial weekend visit, got the part, and completed the job the following Monday. That's great service and I will continue to use these folks as long as they are in business and continue to be responsive.
Description of Work: I have used A1 Finchum for my HVAC service for several years; recently the main control circuit board for my gas pack unit went out and I called on a weekend for service. Within an hour a technician came out, diagnosed the problem, and told me that unfortunately it was an OEM part and the supplier wouldn't be open until the following Monday, but that he would price the part and service and call me on Monday.

Called for an estimate for a new system to replace old one. They came out and were very professional and informed. After pricing other company's units, I was pleasantly surprised by the units and prices they had. Included a rebate on the new system from the manufacturer, which they handled. I did not have to purchase and then send for rebate. They also bought my old system for recycle which was a bonus! They came as scheduled and had my new system installed within three hours. Works great!

The end result was good.. there were, however, problems, my ac unit is in the attic and when the original installer installed it, it leaked through the attic into my living room ceiling. It was later discovered the unit had probably been dropped and the first installer didn't report it and put it in anyway....it had damage internally that could not been seen from the outside and caused the unit not to be level and it leaked and overflowed the container pan and caused damage to living room ceiling below. They were very reponsive and apologetic and damage was repaired. The other problem was the unit that was recommended and installed wasn't large enough and my home was not cooled properly. They did install a larger unit for an additional cost of $800 (which I was told was just equipment cost and not additional labor) and everything has worked fine since. As I said, they were responsive and the overall result was very good. I understand the original installer is no longer with them as a result of these problems. I will use them in the future for service and I think that speaks volumes.

Our obsolete air conditioner failed and it was not worth repairing, so I decided to replace everything and invest in a dual fuel system to save on utilities going forward. I did considerable research on various system and manufacturers then began contacting authorized local contractors that could install any of the systems I was interested in. I ultimately called eight different contractors and scheduled meetings at my home to evaluate our environment and provide proposals. A-1 Finchum was the only contractor to call and reschedule. The salesperson arrived a day after our original appointment in the late afternoon and introduced himself with an inappropriate joke. By this time several other contractors had already visited my home, evaluated ductwork, and performed proper Manual J load calculations. Two contractors spent over an hour in my home. The salesperson from A-1 Finchum was barely there for ten minutes. I was supposed to receive a proposal the following week, but that passed and I have yet to hear back from them. The contractor I ultimately chose went above and beyond my customer service expectations in every aspect of our interaction. A-1 Finchum was the complete opposite and ultimately wasted the time of everyone involved. I assume that the company and its employees are friendly and competent, so it is unfortunate that such a lack of professionalism can undermine a significant business opportunity like this.
Description of Work: A-1 Finchum was one of 8 companies I contacted recently for a complete dual fuel residential HVAC system replacement. Somehow I now have a slight appreciation for the companies who didn't return my calls at all and waste my time like this company did.

We paid between $69-89 for the service. Their prices are reasonable. We had used another company before and they ended up cracking the unit when they came to service it. They were responsive. We would use them again.

They were awesome. I didn't know what was wrong and I did a whole bunch of research. They could have charged me $20,000 and I wouldn't have known the difference. When the guy came out I told him I thought I needed this and this. It was about $5,000 worth of repairs and he said that I didn't need any of that. He turned a few wrenches and said see ya and didn't charge me anything. I will use them every time.

I was not very happy with them. I called them and we communicated through email. They were good in responding to my emails. The gentleman came out and all he did was that he added refrigerant to the unit. He just mentioned that the unit needs to be replaced and didn’t explain to me anything. In a month’s time the unit wasn’t working properly. I didn’t want to call them back again. So I called another company. They cleaned my system and it was working fine. I wouldn't use them again in future.

I've used this company twice for service and been entirely pleased. When our ancient downstairs system needed replacement I called them. Their website would lead you to believe they are a primary Carrier dealer. Their guy showed up, spent a few minutes, took a couple of notes and I never heard from him again. If you want Carrier, you will want to talk to someone else. (The guy who got the business (Melton, Trane equipment) showed up with a computer and satchel of papers and spent well over an hour analyzing our house. What a difference!).
Description of Work: Needed estimate for complete replacement of downstairs HVAC system. Someone showed up (on time) with a small notepad. He wrote down a couple of numbers, asked a couple of questions, and I never heard from this company again.

Our air conditioner had "frozen" and stopped working. We were leaving town at noon on Friday and when I called at 8:00 a.m. I asked for a service call prior to noon. They took my name and number, called me back and said a repairman was on the way - our air conditioner was repaired by 11:00! These folks are superb in the customer service area! Great job!!!

He said he would get back with me with the estimate within a day or two. It has been 5 days and still no estimate. Just as well as the initial impression told me if the estimate was any indication of the quality of work they do I wanted no part or this company.
Description of Work: The employee arrived to provide an estimate for a new HVAC. Their cell phone rang no less than 7 times in the brief 15 minutes they were here. While he didn't answer the phone it certainly interrupted the estimate process and any questions I had.

When our heating/cooling system broke it was so old that they no longer make parts for it. Had 2 other companies come out for estimates but wasn't sure which to use, so I decided to join Angie's List to see if either were on there. Since they weren't, I decided to call one on the list and they gave a better estimate than the other 2 guys plus were able to start the next day. When one of the previous contractors called back to see if I had decided and I told him what this company was charging, he told me that was a great deal and "go for it". They finished the job that day. I was also impressed that they noticed that the faucet next to where they were working was broken away from the wall they sealed it for me.
