Barrett Roofing replaced the front half of the roof on the home we were purchasing in October 2019 at the recommendation of our realtor. We asked at the time if we should go ahead and replace the back and were advised no, it was in great shape. Within 6 months of purchasing the home, we had leaks on the back half of the roof. I called Barrett Roofing to come out and figure out where the leaks were coming from so we could get it fixed and they came out one time and said they didn't see any problems. Said they would send someone else out to crawl up in the attic to see if they could find something more but never came back and after a couple more attempts to get them out here after, they never called me back or responded to anything. After having a couple more roofing companies look at my roof, all were able to immediately identify the problem which was the incorrect installation of roofing on a low slope roof. When the new company came out to install a new roof on the back, we also found sub-par work done on the front of the house with shingles around dormers installed incorrectly and already coming off. I would not recommend Barrett Roofing to anyone at this point.

they took my loan application, never told me that I was approved. they showed up while my wife and I were at work and performed the work, (Poorly). an insurance adjuster was suppossed to show up the next day to submit a claim. now their was no proof of storm damage. So Insurance didn't pay a cent. When my wife came home she started upthe driveway and thought we were being robbed as there was a large white van loading things in the van.
Description of Work: don't think they will call prior to destroying and ripping your home apart. NOT SURE OF DATE

I had Barrett Roofing put a roof on my house less than a year prior to the storms of April 2011. When the workers showed up, one spoke very little english and that was the extent of english speaking workers at my house. Very hard to communicate. The workers were, however, quick and did a great job. When they finished, I thought they had done a great job on the roof and cleanup of nails, etc. But in the time it took them to put on the roof, all my plants around the house had been smashed down with roofing materials. The had also left a pizza box on my roof. If I had been someone who could not get on the roof to remove it, this would have been an issue. However, my spouse got on the roof and checked out the work (hours after they had gone) and said it was a good job. However, they had thrown out all our gutter guards when the took off the trash as they left. I called the company many times in the next few MONTHS trying to get them to make this right. They finally did by FALL - it was spring when I started the calls. When the storms of April 2011 (less than a year later) came through and I was told I needed a new roof, I called Barrett. I got the run around, disconnected and pretty much ignored. So much for previous customers being their first priority. I even was able to speak to Frank Barrett (owner) himself .. but his staff would not arrange to have workers come out again. I guess if you have them fix issues they caused, you are no longer a preferred customer! I had to get my contractor that did the rest of my house repairs (Wellman Custom Remodeling) to complete the roof. I also found that the "same as cash" price they gave me and that they provide every customer whether you pay out-right or same as cash, it is the same price and already has the monies meant for "loan APR" built in. I got my second roof for over a thousand less with the same roofing materials.

Wish I'd been an Angie's List member before I went with this company for full roof replacement due to storm damage - dreadful experience!!! They left enormous mess - crew "cleaned up" in the dark - shingles and other debris everywhere. They did substantial damage to expensive landscaping - to the extent that some plantings had to be replaced and others heavily pruned to try to save them. They damaged gutters - including a hole - which they blamed on rust. The gutters may be old but they didn't have dents, bends, and holes until the crew dropped heavy things on them and stepped on them. They wanted to send a crew to clean up, but I wouldn't agree to that after the careless damage they'd already done to the landscaping. I knew that if I didn't let them come back to clean up, I'd have to pay for it, but it took two weeks of phone calls and talking with extremely rude office staff to even get an agreement to pay for plant replacement, replacement of the ripped heavy-duty grill cover, replacement of solar pathway lights. They simply wear you down - and it was just too stressful to continue arguing about it. Now after I finally came to a partially acceptable settlement with them and paid, I have learned that they broke the wiring to the rain sensor that connects to the irrigation system. Only one person on the crew spoke English - and he only spoke it marginally. No one from the company came back to inspect the job as a matter of routine. They did finally send someone - actually 2 people 3 times - more to take pictures trying to find ways to say the problems weren't really their fault rarher than actually inspect the roof. Don't know how I'm supposed to know that the roof is OK - guess I'll find out over time. this job was covered largely by insurance since it was necessitated by storm damage, so my direct expense wasn't all that high - but what with landscaping repair, new gutters, the hours spent hassling with them, etc., it's costing me plenty! PLEASE NOTE, THIS COMPANY SHOWS UP ON ANGIE'S LIST UNDER MULTIPLE VARIATIONS OF THE NAME - AND THE RATINGS ARE GENERALLY LOW UNDER ALL THE NAMES, BUT YOU AREN'T GETTING THE FULL PICTURE IF YOU ONLY LOOK UNDER ONE NAME!!!

As the work load in this area was overwhelming due to the enormous damage done by said storm, I was insistent that I was more than patient; I did not want the job done in a rush and they had prevented further damage by covering the majority of the roof with a tarp. The roof was put on 6/10/11 while I was at work; when I saw the finished product I called Barrett to request they repair some issues with the roof. After a number of phone calls and finally 3 separate visits to finalize the repairs, and receiving statements with differing amounts due and no backup or breakdown of the charges, the roof was finally repaired to my satisfaction on 10/28/11. Mr. Barrett called me at work on the following Tuesday afternoon; he used foul language and called me names, threatening to file suit on me the following morning as soon as the courts opened, as I'd not yet paid him in full. I repeated that I STILL needed an itemized statement as requested previously, and that the job had been completed only days before after 4 months. After more screaming on his part, he agreed to meet at my home that evening so we could review the charges and complete payment. During tour meeting, he stated it was probably hard for me to understand the numbers, and that the insurance company had messed up their billing; I explained this was quite a simple transaction in comparison to what I deal with daily, and that my insurance company was excellent. The amount he had billed me was incorrect, and when we came to an agreement on the total amount due, I wrote the check, and asked that he sign my statement "paid in full" which he did. He laughingly told me that he didn't mean anything by his earlier behavior. This past week, 11/29, I had a collection call from one of the young ladies at his company. I explained to her that I owed Barrett nothing. She was no doubt doing her job but did not have her facts correct; I scanned the statement signed by Mr. Barrett indicating paid in full, along with my email requesting they never contact me again for any reason. A very unpleasant experience from start to finish, I hope that the roof is of the same quality as that when I used Barrett a number of years back, as I had no problems with it whatsoever. At this point, I would be loathe to use them for any additional repairs of the roof, even if included in the guarantee.
Description of Work: Pursuant to a bad hail storm April 27, '11, I contacted Barrett, as I'd used them before and had been quite satisfied with the product, cost, etc. They replaced my entire roof.

The experience was just fine. They had replaced the roof in 2001 which did not leak for 10 years as opposed to a roofing contractor that replaced it in 1989 and it leaked after 7 years even though it was a 20 year warranty. By the time I got to them the company had dissolved. Barrett has been in business for over 20 years so that is why I went with them. They were not particularly responsive. Their estimator was here in June but they didn’t replace the roof until January. Once they called me, they were here when they said they would be. I would use them again.
Description of Work: I used Barrett Roofing to replace my roof. It was a hail damaged roof and hail damaged skylights that they replaced. They also replaced 7 light tubes.

The original installation went well, although it was somewhat sloppy on the ground after they finished. Sometime later in early 2010 there was a storm and a roof leak around the chimney. This showed up with moldy spots appearing on the ceiling in the living room. We called the company and after a delay they sent someone out to work on the flashing around the chimney which appeared to solve the problem. Following the storms in Knoxille in May and June of this year the roof started leaking in the same place as previously. Moldy spots appeared again and one time there was a puddle on the floor. We had the roof inspected and the inspector told us that the flashing had not been cut into the chimney except in a small part; the rest just wrapped around, and caullking improperly applied with gaps. We have tried and tried to have the company come out and repair the chimney which they improperly fixed and they have failed and refused to respond to telephone calls and emails.
Description of Work: The company completely reroofed my house, following storm damage to an old roof that had outlived its useful life. They were suggested to us by the insurance company adjuster. As indicated below the original installation was never properly completed.

I was experiencing problems with leaking around my old chimney area, so Randy from Barrett came out and recommended the removal of the chimney (rather than trying to repair the area), and roofing over it. That job was done back in May, and there were a few small issues on the day of the repair, including a mishap with the scheduling of the gutter installation. There was going to be a delay of up to 2-3 weeks for the installation of the gutter section. The problem there was that the soffit area had already been demo'ed and there was a gaping hole there in the section where my chimney used to be - it could not wait two weeks in between jobs. There was a bit of a panic on my part...not understanding why they would schedule the two jobs so far apart knowing they would be leaving the hole in my house for so long. Randy got it worked out, though, and found some gutter folks who could come out sooner to cover the area up and put in the section of gutter. Story doesn't end there, though. The gutter never did work correctly - it leaked terribly at the seams. I did not call Barrett to fix that, however. I needed some other work done with my remaining gutters (with a different company), so I had that replaced at my expense. I add that note here only to mention how I came to discover the next part of this review - the sagging roof. Come to find out when the repair work was being done to the gutters, the other contractors told me that my roof was sagging in the area where the chimney was roofed over by Barrett. This was a couple of months after that job had been done. This all sounds worse than the story ends, at least with Barrett company! I've had terrible recent experience with contractors, so I expected the same with Barrett when I contacted them about the sagging roof. I have to say that I was surprised when I received a call from the office, and the girl was polite, and she let me know that the man who did the work would be out to take a look. He did come out at the end of his work day to look at it, and then he came back the next day to repair it. This young man, Isaias, was very polite and hard working. He did come late, but it was after 5 on a Friday. I imagine it was after all of his other jobs were done and he had already worked all day. In any case, If it isn't done right this time, it isn't for his lack of trying. I hope that there are no more issues with this job. As hard as he worked, I don't think there will be. I could have left some of the negative parts of this review out, but I included them on purpose. Here's why I left them instead of only putting the positive: I still rate Barrett as an A. I believe that things can and do happen. Especially with work and repairs on the house. My house is 80 years old - things can go wrong even with good companies! The real test of a company is how they handle those things. Barrett passed. :)

There original roofing job was good and it was put on there in 1999. Then there was a dip in the roof and that happened in 2005 and they told me I had a leak. So I finally got them to come out again. They "fixed" it and then I had somebody come out again and they tore off some of the shingles and found that they only put a metal piece on the rooted wood.
Description of Work: In 1999 they put a roof on. Then in 2005 they did a repair that cost $365.
