For a total of almost 2 months, Jimmy stalled and postponed beginning the job. There was always a "plausible" excuse, mainly the concern for his Diabetic daughter's baby's impending birth. According to him, the hospital was trying to deliver the baby full term and his daughter kept going into contractions - thus the back and forth to the hostpital. Feeling that this was an important concern for a father, I gave him a lot of leeway but this is the typical story and line(s) given: "We were at the hospital back and forth - but we'll be there tomorrow" Then he wouldn't show and he wouldn't even call to let me know that some emergency or such prevented him from showing, even when I would ask him to call me one way of the other if anything came up. I would have to call and often got voicemail then eventually I would catch him live by phone -- in all the time he only called me about 3 times on his own. VERY unprofessional! Mixed in with the daughter's trips back and forth to the hospital were emergency plumbing jobs that always took precedence over my job. When I questioned whether I would always be waiting because there are always emergency plumbing jobs he would assure me that once the job here was started - nothing would stop it until it was finished. This dragged on for 5 weeks- THEN For 2 weeks AFTER the successful birth of his granddaughter, he delayed my job due to important jobs that had to be completed for Real Estate closing deadlines and other emergencies. This time he really poured on the "promises" to be there the "next day" or "first thing in the morning" and with each no-show, STILL never called me but had to be "caught" answering his phone live and would claim excuse after excuse-- After my patience was exhausted, I contacted another contractor and had him estimate the cost of doing the job and decided to "fire" Jimmy from this job and just move forward. It took 2 weeks to get him to bring the materials he supposedly purchased for that $363 he'd charged me. My current contractor told me that most of the materials weren't appropriate for this job and in either case, were not worth anywhere near a total of $363. The last small box of materials were handed to me when I had to drive to meet him just to get the last of the materials after waiting that additional week. At least half the items in the box were not related to this job and were likely just items he had laying around that I wouldn't have the knowledge to discern whether they were specific to my job. I feel that he underestimated the complexity and time for this job, but instead of just honestly telling me that it was more involved and required more money or that he wasn't up for the task at the time due to his daughter's difficult pregnancy, he chose to just lie and stall and even rip me off for the "auxilliary" supplies. Buying the supplies tied up money that I needed the following month for an unexpected auto repair, and I was financially strapped and frustrated since no job was being done! He was unprofessional, unethical and doesn't deserve any trust placed in him!
Description of Work: Jimmy Munsey had previously done some simple plumbing jobs for me satisfactorily. He suggested that he could remodel my bathroom [replace circular tub in a mobile home with hand built shower, tile the floor, replace faucets, remove prefab shower unit to convert into a linen closet]. He quoted me a low price of $3000 including parts and labor. We met at Home Depot and Lowe's where I purchased $1200 worth of parts including fixtures, tile, hardee boards, grout, adhesive, and the shower door. He charged me $363 for miscellaneous (behind the scenes (plumbling/building) supplies that he claimed he'd purchased at various stores - he did not provide individual receipts. He assured me that the job would take 3-4 days to complete.
