was very impressed with Scott when he came to give us a price and discuss the project. Once that contract was signed, things changed. I guess because we weren't having a pricey house built, our project was not as important. We made sure our payments were always on time, and we were easy to deal with. The plumber he uses installed the water heater incorrectly; fortunately the builder he hired was sharp enough to find the problem and made them fix it. A poor fix, and one that takes up a lot more floor space, but as good as they were going to do. I ended up cleaning up all the lumber, nails, screws and debris from the building site myself after he was repeatedly told to finish his job. I gave up trying to get him and did it myself for safety sake. In the contract it was stated that we would get a refund from unused materials they had ordered but not used. After repeatedly calling him to have them returned before they were ruined by weather, the company sent a little old man unable to do the work with an inadequate truck to carry the materials. After a longer wait, they were finally picked up. The promised refund? Never happened until we repeatedly asked for it. Apparently that isn't something they do automatically. Two years later, we are still living with the poor work the plumber did. We just found out the toilet was not properly installed (they put the wrong flange in the poured concrete floor), and it leaked under the tile and the floor is destroyed. To fix the problem means jack hammering the cement pad, removing the improper size flange and starting over. We are about to spend a huge amount of money to fix a problem which shouldn't have happened in the first place. The original plumber's fix was to put just put some silicone around the flange and hope it held. It didn't and now we are dealing with a big plumber's bill and a lot of inconvenience. The electrician he used did not finish the work, but wouldn't return to finish it because they lived too far away so we ended up paying extra with a local electrician to have it done. Do your homework, ask for the name of his subcontractors and check them out yourself. Get a timeframe and hold him to it. Make him finish the job instead of just moving on once he has your money. He presents himself well. That doesn't guarantee a good job. I trusted him. Big mistake. I didn't leave a review previously because I figured it was just an accumulation of small things, but now we are going to have to pay big for this incompetence. We have talked to others who have dealt with this company and been left unhappy, I felt the need to honestly make his quality of work and ethical business practices public. After finally getting our refund, I told him I hope in the future he treats small jobs (ours was only @ $65,000) as importantly as big jobs. I own my own business and certainly wouldn't be in business long treating customers like he did.

We began our building process while living out-of-state, and we found the communications and attention to detail provided by Scott Zimmerman and his wife Mary more than adequate to alleviate any concerns we had while building from afar. They were sensitive to our situation and provided good communications while coordinating on completion of our dream retirement home. Pictures and descriptions of the progress on the project were provided on a regular basis. We moved in a few months ago and have found the home to be very well built. We love our new home! We would highly recommend Zimmerman Custom Homebuilders to anyone considering having a custom home built, even if building from a distant location.
