I have used this lawn service for over 3 years. The last 3 summers my grass turned brown about July and I was told it was Brown Patch Disease. They treated for this fungus, but my lawn looked terrible most of the summer. Communication with someone was unsatisfactory. I was told someone would return my calls, but most of the time I never got a call back. It was hard to talk to the technicians who came out to treat the lawn. I was either unaware of when they were scheduled to come or the request I made to speak to them when they came out was not passed on. The first year of service was satisfactory, but the remaining years have been very unsatisfactory. I have discontinued their service.

They treated the lawn several times. It seemed there were more weeds this year than last. I called once about this and they came and treated again. Still had more weeds. They called about aerating and over seeding - said they would come on a Friday. Nobody ever came or called. I called them and was told it would be on next Tuesday. Another person also called and said they would be there between 7 and 5 on Tuesday. I asked them to be called before the person came so I would be there. Again, nobody showed up or called. I called again and was told I was not even on the schedule. I then cancelled our service.

)Going well so far. Lawn was in terrible condition when we moved in. Most weeds are under control. Some such as violets (the worst problem) will be addresses later in the year and next spring. Offered significant discounts for first months. Workers were willing to explain the spray program for our lawn and how it was tailored to meet specific issues with our lawn.

After three years the front yard looks really nice. The back yard looks great for about 6 weeks in the spring, then all the grass they've planted (three years in a row) dies. As soon as it gets hot, the Fescue they put down browns out. I've asked them why on earth they would plant grass that won't survive the summer. I never really got a good answer. They have come back and replanted twice when I complained and last year they did not charge for the seed but it's still the same grass. There are plenty of species that grow quite well in the summer. Why they don't plant that is a mystery. I can have dead grass for free. Two weeks ago the back was lush and green and beautiful as we prepared our house to put on the market. Now that our house is for sale and people are coming to see it, about 1/3 of the yard is brown as if I'd sprayed RoundUp on it. It won't come back til next spring. Then it will look awesome for about 6 weeks then brown out again. I'm moving to a place with NO GRASS at all, only landscaping with tropicals. If I weren't moving, I'd cancel anyway. Like I said, the front looks GREAT! Great for curb appeal. No dandelions, no clover, no crabgrass. The back is mostly weed free but the wild violets apparently can't be killed without killing everything and need to be dug up. They are very prolific, especially this year. To be fair, the area of the back yard in question is under big trees but plenty of light gets under them. Other things grow there. I water every couple of days but it makes no difference. It stays almost muddy. You'd think that with their feeding and my watering, it would stay green. Not. I chose Scott's because their review elsewhere were much better than all the others. It seems the biggest problem is the variety of grass they plant. They need something more hardy.
Description of Work: Scott's comes out about once every 6 weeks. It costs about $50 each trip. In the fall they aerate and over-seed. ($100) I've had the service for about three years. I've asked that they call before they come out so I can herd my two cats indoors and they have done that all except once. They have returned to discuss issues (see below) but the issues have never been resolved to my satisfaction. The technicians seem to have a good knowledge of their product and lawn health. They are always professional, calling ahead, closing gates when they leave, etc.

Scott's stinks. I've been with them for 5 years and the first 3 years were fine but they've really slipped. Last year, I noticed crabgrass in my front yard (the area Scott's treats) for the first time ever. Called them and they were cordial and agreed to come spray the crabgrass at no additional cost to my plan, which they should after all since that's what I'm paying them for anyway. This year, even more crabrgrass and other weeds than ever before. Called them again in August-2012 and they were not so courteous this time. Acted like they were doing me a favor to come out and spray the weeds that aren't supposed to be there anyway if their service was worth a d-a-m-n. Person on the phone was somewhat rude and just wanted to get me off the phone. They did come and spray but every time they've done this I can't tell that it's done an ounce of good. In early September, I called their headquarters in Maryville, OH and complained about the service here in Nashville and told them I wanted to cancel. They said the service manager would call me that day and set up a time to come and talk with me and assess my yard. That call never came so a few days later I called Ohio to cancel again and was told was on the schedule. No mention of the phone call or assessment. Ten days went by with nothing: no notification, no treatment, no nothing. Finally just sent a letter to their headquarters and told them to cancel and I never wanted to do business with Scott's again. Funny thing is they came and sprayed again on day 11 after the letter went out but still no mention of the assessment or call from the manager. I'm sure the additional spraying will have no effect as it never has in the past. Stay away from Scott's. Only reason I'm giving them an overall D instead of F is the 3 good years I had with them before it all went downhill.

The service began in February and I terminated it in July of this year, 2012. Three regular treatments were made with two additional treatments for weeds, made at my request. When the technicians came in June for my second requested spray for weeds, they appeared shocked at the condition of the yard. Weeds and unsavory grasses were growing prolifically. We have several acres and the field grass in the other acreage looked great compared to the 1/4 acre Scotts had been treating. The technician said he was fairly new so he called another technician to take a look at the yard. The other technician said he was going to request that their branch manager, Paul Sameluk, take a look at the situation. I requested that Mr. Sameluk call me before coming out so we could personally discuss the terrible condition of the yard. Mr. Sameluk came out on 7/10/12 without calling me and I was not home . He left a note saying he would contact me. After not receiving a follow up call for several days, I contacted him and he proceeded to tell me that there was nothing they could do to improve our yard as it is basically 'field grass' with no sprinkler system. Up to that point, none of the technicians had said anything to me about their inability to improve our yard. If this was so obvious to Mr. Sameluk on one visit, then why did none of their trained technicians a**** this appropriately before beginning treatments on the yard or while providing treatments? The end result is that we have paid $332. to Scotts since February, and now have a yard that looks horrible. Prior to beginning the Scotts treatment program, Mr. Sameluk sent me a letter that says verbatim: "I believe you'll find the use of Scotts products applied by lawn service professionals, to be the perfect combination to produce a thick, green lawn... Every treatment we make to your lawn is fully guaranteed. If for any reason, you are not completely satisfied with the results of any treatment, please give us a call and I'll send a specialist right out to take care of the problem... We're never satisfied until you are". During my conversation with Mr. Sameluk he made no attempt to offer a refund for the outcome of their lawn treatments, nor even a discounted price to kill and re-seed the yard. If Scotts actually means what they say and if they stand behind their product and service, then I believe they should refund our $332, given that our yard has not only failed to improve, it has deteriorated horribly. Further if according to Mr. Sameluk, they could not improve our yard, we should have been informed of this prior to Scotts engaging in a treatment program with us.
Description of Work: I contacted Scotts Lawn Service - Nashville to give us an estimate for lawn treatments in February, 2012. A technician came out on 2/9/12 and provided an estimate. The first treatment for weed control and fertilization was applied on 2/28/12. Another visit to treat weeds, at my request, was made on 3/19/12. A second regular treatment was applied 4/13/12 for weed and crabgrass control. The third treatment for fertilization and weed control was applied on 5/13/12. In June a visit to spray weeds was made again at my request.

They didn't give me the treatment that they said they were going to provide. They gave me 2 extra treatments at the end of the year that I didn't paid for. They charged me and called to complain but they still charged me. There was this one time that they called me and was selling some things and I said no and she hung up on me. I find their service to be erratic and their service providers to be rude.

The company at first was very prompt and took care of some of the problems I was having with my lawn, then as time went on the service and the employees became less interested in caring about my business. I ended up having a ton of weeds at early summer after using them for a year and when I called they ignored me for two weeks and then I had a neighbor tell me that the tru green truck just pulled up and parked in front of my house and the employee never got out to work on it. After trying another few weeks to talk witha manager or soemone of authority, the person answering the phone would put me on hold and then tell me that they didn't have a manager avaiable...every time. I don't believe it is normal practice for a business to operate without a manager or supervisor. It went on and on and on. I did however recieve a call every other day with them trying to collect a payment from me. I refused to pay for a service that I never recieved and they for some reason couldn't understand that. The field manager finally contacted me and I canceled my service. The field manager was very apologetic and tried to win me over, but it was too late for flattery.

Our yard has been completely brown for the last 3 months we have called them numerous times reporting the problem and with the exception of a couple of times we never got anyone's attention. We finally escalated it to the nation level to report the problem. Then finally the local folks came out said they would resolve the problem ASAP and a week and a half later we had not heard anything from them. I called the local operations manager and cancelled the service.

In the long run the job did not get done. I had to hire another company to come out and do it right. At this time I was tight on time as the fall planting season was almost over. The company has no problem with lies, more lies, and more lies while all the time wasting my time in trying to get the job done. If you choose to hire them make sure you do not pay until after you are sure they do the job right. While I can not speak on their lawn treatment from my own experience my next door neighgor signed up with them and he had very negative experience with them as much of his lawn died after treatment.
Description of Work: They were to spry my yard for a total kill so that I could power rake after everything died and plant a new lawn in the Fall. They came and gave me an estimate and I approved the work. They showed up as scheduled and sprayed. After a week only the broad leaf weeds died and they said that they used the wrong product and that they would come out and do it again. To make a long story short they were no shows on four consecutive resprays with a wide array of excuses why they did not show up. These ranged from flat tires to techs geting hung up on other job. Finally they said that they did not charge me enough and that they would not spray again.

Trying to convince Tru Green that I only want two visits per year is impossible. They call me every month pressuring me to take services I have repeatedly made clear I do not want. To add insult to injury, the one service I did want (spraying for Japanese beetles) was not done and my fruit trees were decimated by the bugs. The only positive thing I can say is that the lawn area that was treated is basically weed free, but it was hardly worth the inconvenience, frustration and expense.
Description of Work: I just wanted my yard treated twice a year, once for weeds and once for Japanese beetles. I don't want to kill every native plant and beneficial bug in my yard, something Tru Green does not seem to understand.

I set up the time to do the job again and they were a no show. I was told that the truck was down and that they would be out in the morning. Next morning, afternoon and early evening nothing. I called and they knew nothing about it. I do not want to go on and on, but the end result was I had 4 more no shows with excuses like blown tires and the last being they made a mistake and wrote the estimate too low. After they screwed with me it was too late to do the job right, so it put me back a YEAR because if you do it right the seed needs to be laid in Fall. I just let it go as I was tired of all of their lies and excuses (which were also lies).
Description of Work: After purchasing a new home I called Tru Green to come and give me an estimate on a total kill grass and broad leaf killer. I told them exactly what I wanted which was to kill everything so I could plant a new lawn in Fall. This gave them about a month to do the treatment. After getting an estimate I told them to do the job. The first contact was positive. They came out and sprayed and said that I could plant the new seed in about a week or so. After about 3 days it was clear that they did not spray what I wanted. It did kill the grass, but did not kill the weeds or broad leaf plants which was about 60% of what I had. I called and they said that they guarantee the job and that they used the wrong spray and it would be no problem. I still had time to plant in early fall so this would still work out well.
