They were good and careful.

At first, I was impressed, as Moovers offered a simple quote with a fixed price. The owner was helpful in setting up the move. The movers arrived close to the expected time, about ? an hour late. They were nice and began their job right away. I requested that they use the pads and wrap we purchased to protect the furniture. Having relocated many times and having used many different movers, I considered this a reasonable request, especially as the owner had assured me that my things would be treated with the utmost care, including the use of wrapping and pads where requested or necessary. We were especially concerned as we had recently purchased some expensive furniture, and we also had some older family items. As the movers began their work, I noticed some noises that concerned me, as things were being banged around. Upon checking this out, I observed that no pads, covers, or wrapping was being used with any of our furniture. Again, I repeated my request and received assurances that pads would be used going forward. I later learned that they never used any pads, covers, or wrap. Carefully packed wardrobe boxes were tossed on their sides, and they continued banging into door jambs with our items. It soon became obvious to me that they were in a big hurry to get to their next job (I learned later that this was indeed true). It got to the point where we moved a few of the items ourselves to avoid further damage, even though those items were part of our quote. I followed the movers down to the destination, a storage facility. After they missed the exit (I offered simple directions earlier, but they said the GPS would tell them) and I re-routed them over the phone, they began unloading the truck. I asked that a small path be left open to the back of the unit, as we had some things we would need to access. I told them that running out of space was no problem, as we had rented 2 additional units at that facility. After returning from upstairs, I discovered that they had hastily filled the unit 2/3 full already, and there was no way to get to anything past the middle of the unit. Things were crammed in places where they should not have been. Our heavy upholstered chair was turned upside down and dumped atop our leather couch; both items were uncovered. Our new furniture was dinged and scratched. When I pointed this out to one of the movers, his response was an ambivalent ?yeah, I guess I should?ve used pads,? and then he went back to work. In addition, our washing machine and dryer had been scratched up, and the plug on the washer was badly bent where he yanked the cord from the wall. The thought of what we will find when we need to move our things to their next destination makes me nauseous. The movers were very reckless and careless, and our furniture was damaged as a result. After this experience, I can honestly say that I would have happily paid much more to hire careful movers who took the time to do it right. Next time, I hope I find them.

I was impressed that, of all the moving companies I called, this one came and looked over my furniture and furnishings before giving me a quote. All the other ones did it over the phone. When I got a better price with a competitor, Moovers used their price match instead of the flat rate, which did end up saving me money. The 3 guys that showed up the day of the move were within the 2 hour window I was given, very courteous, quick, efficient and a pleasure to work with over the 5.5 hours it took to move all my stuff. Overall, no furniture was damaged and the hardwood floors in my new home were not damaged. However, it unraveled a bit at the end, 5 furniture pegs for the shelves from my office armoire went missing and I will have to find them or buy replacements. Also, they were not able to move several large pieces of furniture to the second floor. When they made the attempt to move the top of the computer armoire, the walls in the stairwell were damaged in 3 places. The leader of the movers warned me of the tight squeeze of the stairwell beforehand but thought it was worth trying since the bottom half had already been moved upstairs. When it didn't go well, the leader assured me that the damage to the walls could quickly and easily be repaired but when I called the company the next day, they said it was not their responsibility since the leader told me the stairwell was narrow. Both the owner, Daniel, in the estimate, and the leader of the movers, stressed several times that tips were optional but appreciated. I felt pushed to give a tip. All these little oddities, the wall damage and the loss of the pegs were very stressful and disappointing in the midst of a big move and being a first time home buyer. What started off so positively, was good in the middle but ended flatly. I have mixed feelings and thoughts about the whole thing, as you can see reflected in the ratings.
