Mark Plaia

Description of Work: By far the worst work I have ever seen! We hired Mark Plaia to do some remodeling on my daughters first home. He came recommended as doing "great" work by someone we didn't think would steer us wrong. I met Mark Plaia on site, he "appeared" to be straight forward and acted as if the job was well within his capabilities. We talked through the different projects we wanted him to complete and came to terms. Was I ever conned! He didn't do anything right! 1. Install a new pocket door: He made a huge mess. Cut the metal track wrong, left huge gap. Door just flops around. He left the header completely unsecured. He left trim (the stop) from the old door casing and built around it. He mangled part of the new metal track. We're now having to rip the entire thing out, purchase a new kit and start completely over. 2. Electrical: asked him to install 2 ceiling fans, a bath exhaust fan and a bathroom light. I can't begin to tell you the disaster he's made of the wiring. He clearly knows nothing about wiring. Wish I could show the pictures of what we've found so far. He's created such a hazard, we're not touching any of it until a master electrician comes and rewires the entire upstairs!! oh...the bathroom light to be installed? It's taped to the towel bar and the wires crammed in the light socket. 3. Change doorknobs on interior doors.--- Existing knobs/holes were smaller than new knobs. He said installation would be no problem using the new jig we purchased. The doors look like crap...his cuts were awful, the wood is splintered and torn, several inches out in places. He proceeded to hang the doors, with the splintered wood visible. He did install the doorknobs, but the hardware is backwards. This will all have to be redone. 4. Install new garbage disposal: He "gave" me a garbage disposal, installing one he had left over from another job. He did install the disposal, but didn't fix the leaking pipes. UUGH!! Re-do!5. Paint: He did paint one room. We've just discovered he spilled blue paint AND what appears to be a red drink of some kind on the carpet. Both are smeared around a bit as if he tried to do a quick clean. (didn't work!---now we have stains!) 6. In trying to install switches, he cut holes in the drywall for the boxes. In one case the new box was barely secured with one screw. (could be more, we'll know when the electrician comes) He also cut the holes wrong, so were having to do drywall repair and repaint!!...(even in the one and only room he actually painted)
