Watch out. Something has changed… I’ve had their service for three years, it was great until this last year… First, there’s no way to get ahold of anyone on the phone, customer support is done through email only through “tickets”. When we had issues getting added service and their billing, I had to argue with someone over email who literally replied “why you mad?” when I was overcharged and they debited my account early. Then, a few months later, when asking to cancel my service, they ended my service early and took the remainder of the money I paid for the quarter pointing to a clause in their agreement that says if I cancel I forfeit any money paid for the quarter. My intention was to cancel at the end of the quarter, and when explaining this, they ignored me, canceled the service 2 months early, and took my money. DO NOT START SERVICE with these yahoos.

Mr. [Member Name Removed] is not being honest in his portrayal of our response. When he cancelled service, we responded within hours and cancelled his service as requested. He had paid for a quarter of service three weeks earlier. Despite our policy clearly stating that when you pay for a quarter, you are agreeing to pay for that service and there are no refunds, he requested a refund. We declined, and he threw the fit you see above. He threatened to get his attorney involved if we didn't provide the service he paid for. We did not ignore his request. We were more than happy to complete the quarter of service for which he paid. Indeed, why are you mad?

However, the reason I'm granting the "C" grade is the dramatic decrease in service from 2008 to 2009. We used to get emails and newsletters reminding us of pickup dates; that stopped. Shortly before we cancelled service we finally found out we were supposed to be on a regular pickup (1st and 3rd Mondays?) but I don't remember being apprised of that. I'd have to log on to their website every month to get pickup dates, and those were only updated for the current month - so I'd have to remember to get the dates every month. While Earthsavers does show up on the scheduled day, they sometimes delay scheduled pickups without much notice - we only got one pickup in six (!) weeks, from late November 2009 to early January 2010. Why on earth did they build in delays in December, when people have more waste than any other month?! I emailed to find out what was going on - after our regular date was skipped, or so I thought - and was told they'd changed the billing schedule and baked a December vacation for their employees into the pickup schedule. Again, this all went down without much notice - about ten days, which is a pain when you're having to calculate and re-calculate what days they're even supposed to be there to begin with. We routinely received $5 "overage" charges for excess boxes and what have you. A.) We didn't even have the largest recycling container size, B.) Cardboard is bulky. Good luck getting much else into your container unless you're willing to slice and dice boxes into very small chunks in order to avoid the overage fees. The last straw was when we were recently only given 3 days' notice to update credit card information or face a $40 re-start fee. This has happened before - when they put their customer information online we were only given three days to sign up. I tried to call Earthsavers' office to discuss this with them, but they've gone to voice mail only. I'm not paying nearly $30 a month for something I can do myself (hauling my recycling to a local center) to receive this level of service. I finally cancelled our Earthsavers account and will go back to taking materials to the local center. It's a shame this business doesn't do more to encourage people in the General Services District to recycle, since we're not receiving recycling pickup service from our local government.
Description of Work: I'll agree with what the previous commenter said. Once Earthsavers got the Metro contract for the Bellevue area, our rates rose almost 30%. I get that they needed to buy new equipment and hire staff once their business expanded, but why again am I subsidizing Metro...? When I already pay property taxes and live in a satellite city (Forest Hills) with reduced services...? Just doesn't make much sense to me. One of my main issues with this company is the expense. $26 a month for two backdoor pickups, when presumably they're selling the raw materials. Where is that money going? They claim to be donating it to a local environmental organization, but I'd be interested to see the financials. Earthsavers does a pretty good job at what they advertise - picking up recycling. I'll give them bonus marks for being single-stream, which means you don't have to separate out paper, cans, metal, etc.

Bobby, the owner here. Thank you for your comments; we are listening. We are a small company in a market with great need. To meet that need, we had to restructure. When we were small, we could only serve 200ish customers. Today, we serve over 1,400 & poised to serve 10,000+. Service is as low as $10 per month (once-per-month) collecting from a 96-gallon container at the curb & as high as $25 per month for twice-per-month back door service. So it is now affordable to more people by offering curbside service too with higher fees for higher service. Instead of relying on unreliable email reminders, and to keep costs down we setup up online accounts for you to access your schedule anytime you want. We rely on the online account, email, and the website to keep you informed. Our values are to give our employees time off btwn Christmas & New Year's Day to be with family & friends. We added only one week btwn collections & we did not access overflow fees. We don't get paid for the materials we collect since they are commingled. We actually pay to recycle glass. So a portion of your fee goes to the cost of processing the glass. We resumed email newsletters this Fall that you can also access on the website after getting the new system running. Yes, there was a major shift from personal, small biz focus to a technologically advanced system, & we knew that would not make some happy, but overall, our customers recycle three times more than other government-run programs, & you have partnered with us to recycle over 12 million lbs over the last 7+ years. see above story. They were OK until they got a big contract with Metro.
Description of Work: This company started out being great but they have gone way UP on their prices. They quit picking up my recycling without a notice as they like to do all business on line. They were reasonable and dependable but they were always difficult to communicate with even on line. I have found a more reasonable company to pick up my recycling materials.

Fantastic service for those of us that can't get to the recycling center on a regular basis. Bobby and his staff are exceptionally friendly, thorough and punctual. The email reminders are especially helpful.
Description of Work: Twice monthly back-door recycling pickup service. Including paper, glass, aluminum and metal cans (1 and 2 plastic). Offers premium pickup of other recyclable items throughout the year. Also offer business recycling services.
