I went to Home Depot because I'm out of town a lot and I wanted convenience for my countertop replacement. They sent Design Works to install my countertops. I wasn't able to be present so my son let them in and sent photos of the install. Immediately I noticed that the end splash was not flush with the back splash in the corner. It also extended past the countertops. It looks very shoddy from across the room. I spoke to Matt which is where it really started going downhill. Long story short, Matt doesn't give a flying flip about my being unhappy with the end result. He said its not the first time he's heard people complain about the way the end splash looks but thats just standard procedure. Well, it looks like an amateur did it. It looks like a DIY project. Matt managed to say he was sorry I didn't like it while managing to sound extremely un sorry and unconcerned. I had to ask HIM for a solution and his only suggestions were that I have them rip the whole thing out or have them rip out the end piece. He said he wouldn't recommend either of these "solutions" because they would damage my walls. Well, there is only one satisfactory solution and that is to come out and straighten out this end splash so it lines up with the backsplash. Don't hire these people. You can buy the countertops and install them yourself for half the price. They can't turn out any worse than this and as a bonus you won't have to deal with Matt.
Description of Work: I had a laminate countertop installed.

Response from Design Works Nashville
Please enter what you would like the response to look like:We have reached out to customer [Member Name Removed] to explain the nature of the product and that we have installed the end splash to industry standards. We have included a photo of the install and a third party countertop install to demonstrate and confirm that our product is the industry accepted installation of a laminate side splash. As far as Ms [Member Name Removed] posting - she was not present during the installation and if she was, we could have addressed her concerns at that time. Matt's comments are correct, furthermore; he is one of the most knowledgeable laminate professionals in Nashville. For over 10 years, Design Works has had the benefit of his hard work and customer sensitive perspective. This is the first time we have heard anything negative from a customer. We invite others Laminate Fabricators and Installers to reply to this post.

[*** Link removed ***] The first thing I will say is that I will NEVER use this company EVER again. You can look at the pictures and video and make the decision to use them for yourself. I hired Design Works in Nashville, TN to install a countertop in my house that I was getting ready to sell. I was on a tight deadline and they were able to do the job in the time frame that I needed. I paid them half the money up front. The day they were to do the installation I had to work and I’m a paramedic so I am gone for 24 hours at a time. I had my father at my property to let the installer in. This was on April 12, 2016. After the installation was finished my father texted me a picture of the countertop which was pretty disturbing because there was a gigantic gap on the left corner and you could see from 50 feet away that the whole countertop was not level. I asked my father what was going on with it and he told me the installer said that the cabinets weren’t level so he decided that the important part was having the backsplash level with the window……and it wasn’t. I got to the property the next morning. I had work to do that morning and needed it all done by that afternoon to get it on the market at that time and so I could spend the rest of the day with my son. When I went inside and looked at the installation job I was furious. I could not believe that a “professional” would EVER leave a job like this and expect the customer to be happy with the job they did or be expected to pay for it. I have pictures of the countertop before which show the countertop sat level. The installer even did the initial measurements while the countertop was still attached. I did remove the counter top myself but nothing was changed. I immediately called Design Works and expressed how angry I was and told them that I had to have the house on the market that night. To their credit they did get the installer out there immediately. When the installer returned he told me the same thing he told my father. He said that he thought the important thing was that the backsplash was level with the backsplash. I said, “for one it isn’t and two…..Would you buy a house if you walked into it and saw that countertop?” He said, “well, no.” I told him that I couldn’t believe that he would leave a job like that. He told me that the countertop that he brought to install didn’t have as big of a lip on the front as the old one so the new one didn’t sit the same. I expressed that he measured it and it was his job to make it work. He then told me that he thought I could put a filler strip in the gap to hide it!!!!! I said, “How would that hide the fact that the countertop isn’t level!!!? It curves almost straight up in the corner by the dishwasher!” So his idea was to have an un-level, curved countertop that you can’t put anything on safely with a huge triangular filler strip going from one corner to the other…….. He then told me that the only way he could make it work was to notch out the countertop so it sits flush. I said, “Great! You should have done that yesterday!” He did what he should have done the day before but wasted his time and mine by not doing the job correctly the day before. My whole morning was shot because I needed to replace light fixtures and could not turn off the power to the house when he was there. What should have taken me until noon took me until 5 o’clock and I didn’t get to spend the day with my son like I was supposed to. Design Works never called me for the second half of the payment for the job. I assumed this was because they were embarrassed about the “job” their installer did, I would have been. It turned out that their billing department is as on top of things and as good at their jobs as their installers. They called me yesterday June 7, 2016. The installation was done on April 12, 2016. The house is also sold already. I told them that I assumed they were covering the second half of the bill because of the terrible job their installer did and the fact that they costed me half a day of work on the property and delayed me for getting it on the market. Greg Catz the owner then got on the phone. He was extremely rude and didn’t feel that his installer did anything wrong. He then made multiple references to being shocked about people today and how “they feel that they are entitled to other peoples’ money.” This guy was accusing me of trying to steal from him! His installer did a totally botched job and left it expecting to get paid full price! And he was accusing me of stealing from him! This guy then got his installer on the phone with him and they tried to put the blame for their crappy work on my father! I will refrain from telling you my true thoughts on these two peoples’ true character but you can probably get the drift. I told him that I would pay him but I didn’t feel like he deserved the full price after all the chaos he caused. He then threatened to go take the countertop back. Then he threatened to put a lien on the house. I paid them but I will never use them again. Did they fix the problem? Yes. Is it even remotely acceptable how they initially left the job? Not even close. I will never recommend them to anyone and if anyone I know is to ever say they need a countertop I know who I will tell them not to call but watch the video and you can make the decision for yourself.
Description of Work: Design Works came to my house to measure my old countertop to give me a quote and then installed a new one.....
