Description of Work: We've used Curtis three times, and they have always responded promptly and fixed the problem; one time was on a Saturday, when the owner personally came out to deal with the problem and didn't charge extra for weekend service. His philosophy is: Don't make the customer buy something new if the problem with the existing system can be fixed. Later, we used an Angie's List coupon for an HVAC checkup with Mr. Sparky and joined their customer club, but I always feel they are pressuring me to spend hundreds of dollars anytime they come out. I'm going back to Curtis, and in fact I just recommended them to a friend.

Our home was on the market. We were away from Town and received a call from our realtor that the buyer's realtor called and said that the HVAC wasn't working. We contacted AHS (our home warranty company) and they sent out Curtis Electric Svc. Though we asked to be notified when the technician would be at the house we were not notified. The technician came to the house, apparently examined the unit and determined that there had been improper repairs done. The technician did NOT contact us directly. The technician did contact AHS and reported improper repairs. We had to track down the company and the technician to get information. We explained that ALL work on our HVAC was performed by technicians through AHS. At the end of the phone conversation the tech said to me that he wasn't going to work on the unit, that he had to call it like he sees it and the work done previously wasn't correct. We contacted AHS and they had another company come out. The diagnosis was that the work done previously wasn't improper and we were able to have our unit fixed. We did not like the attitude of the person taking our call at Curtis Electric office and the technician was actually rude and snide. Certainly could understand someone having an opinion about previous work being improper but the rudeness with which the information was delivered was completely inappropriate. Add to that the lack of communication. We were available, we had our phones with us and noone from the company called us with any information until we called and left messages asking for a return call. Our experience with the follow-up company was completely different. So, we would not recommend Curtis Electric.
Description of Work: Ultimately none.

As noted above, we've had Curtis out twice to work on our air conditioning unit. The first time they responded because they were sent by the company that had our home warranty. We didn't renew the home warranty but were impressed enough with Curtis to call them when our AC motor went out during this summer's blistering heat. We called on Saturday morning and luckily were able to get a repairman out within an hour, the same fellow who had been here before. He checked simple things first, like Freon levels, then checked the motor. It was dead. He called his office, found out where he was going to have to go to find a replacement for this motor on a Saturday, gave an estimate (which was dead-on), pulled out the motor, rushed to get the replacement before that company closed at noon, and by 1:00 we had a working AC again. Both times, the service was prompt, professional, and friendly. The repairman told me he'd had to learn a lot more about air conditioning units when he started to work for Curtis a few years ago. He said the company he'd been working for had the philosophy of just yanking out a part and replacing it, whatever it might be. Curtis, he said, believes in keeping down the customer's cost, so if the part can be fixed more cheaply than it can be replaced, do that. That was why he'd had to learn more about AC repair after coming to work for Curtis. I overheard him answering questions from his boss about whether or not the part had to be replaced. We've also heard from others that they've used Curtis and have been very happy with them. Certainly, we'll be calling them whenever we need service again.
Description of Work: We've had Curtis out twice to work on our air conditioning unit, most recently to replace a motor when our AC stopped working on a Friday evening.

Curtis Electric was sent by AHS to fix the upstairs a/c that had been looked at (and presumably fixed with a 15 minute visit and freon) by Greenway the previous month. The technician for Curtis spent 90 minutes making sure he found the problem; he went into the attic to look at the unit (which the guy from Greenway never did) and finally found that a door latch to the furnace had come loose, breaking the electric circuit. The a/c works great now. He even took the time to change the lightbulb in the attic and to put my dogs at ease. I have used Curtis before for a downstairs a/c unit and for the central heater, and I will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: The technician was sent by AHS due to fix the upstairs a/c unit that was not working.
