Description of Work: As I live in an old house, spiders and bugs are to be expected, but when I saw two spiders greater than 2 inches that looked like brown recluses near the window 3 feet from my bed (I squished one, but the other went back in the window frame). I freaked out and called my land lord. He recommended Belle Meade Exterminators as he uses them, and I called them the next day for an appointment ASAP. For years, I have caught spiders on those sticky traps and not been afraid to smack them, but after seeing what I thought was the mother and father of all the brown recluses, it was time to do something. Belle Meade Exterminators said they would have to inspect the house first, give me an estimate, then proceed with the brown recluse treatment or whatever treatment I needed, so I booked the 1st appointment available only a few days later. The friendly receptionist gave me a few pointers including putting out sticky boards to catch them(which I already do) or that they would provide some, shaking out my shoes and clothes before I put them on, looking in my sheets before I went to bed, and reassured me that brown recluses only bite when threatened, they just don't come looking for you! I was going through a monthly home magazine with other advertisements, and called another company about their brown recluse spider treatment and quoted about $400, which would be more if they took off all the light covers, lightswitch plates, and electric socket plates- Why should I pay more for doing their work? I called Belle Meade back, and they said I did not have to do anything like that, and if that needed to be done, it would not be an extra charge. So Friday, Gene, the Pest Control Supervisor, inspected all of my specimens on the sticky boards/ones in baggies I saved and taught me that the spiders that I have did not have fiddles on their backs as the brown recluse does, but had black stripes instead. He even took out his magnifying glass to make sure! He looked at all of the spider webs and felt sure that the 2 huge spiders in my bedroom were Wolf Spiders as brown recluses do not get that big and did not make webs like the Wolf Spiders. He said that brown recluses molt when they grow, and that he saw no evidence of brown recluses as I showed him about 10 spiders and 30 webs all around the inside and outside of the house. I was so relieved! As I am not educated in Pest Control, I asked him to do what he would do for his daughter, so he thoroughly sprayed the house inside and out with a ?capsulated treatment (I can't remember what he said). He said the other company would have ripped me off because if the lightswitch plates are fully sealed, that spiders can't get around them, etc... Gene was extremely knowledgeable, amiable, and called me "Mam". He was wearing a nice shirt and tie even though it was 99 degress that day, and I was impressed by his professionalism. So, he could have ripped me off and done the expensive brown recluse treament as I don't know any better, but he did the right thing. I highly recommend this company to anyone and will use them again for maintenance as I have cleaned up a lot of deceased spiders and empty spider webs! Thank you a lot Belle Mead Exterminating Company!
