TJ's Computer Repair

I called 2 times and never heard back. Can't really say that's an A rating.

I took my computer to another place first and had to show up unexpectedly to find out what was wrong with it. After shelling out $80 for a diagnostic fee I was left with the same broken computer. The first place told me they couldn't fix it but still charged me the diagnostic fee which I understood to be subtracted from the repair cost if they fixed it. Anyway, I just wanted my computer back broke and all!! I searched for local repair facilities in my area via craigslist and found someone who was close...TJ's Computer Repair. I called Wally first to see if this was something he could possibly fix and he had me bring my laptop directly to him. He informed me that he DOES NOT charge a diagnostic fee and would just tell me what it needed. After about 3 hours I received a call from Wally explaining to me in depth what the issue could be and gave me a best case and worst case scenario of time and cost. It turns out that the motherboard was not the problem. The problem was the GPU (graphics processing unit), however, the GPU was soldered into the motherboard and the only way to fix it was to get a new motherboard. Wally informed me that the place I took it to first in no way shape or form tested the motherboard and just guessed. It was a good guess by the first repair facility I took it to but they had no way to show what on the motherboard was broke. Anyway, Wally showed me exactly what was wrong with the computer and even gave me the old parts back. I also need to mention that my computer hinge was broken and the top part of the case was cracked. This is what led to the GPU cable being severed and why it broke in the first place. I had Dell quote me $179.00 to fix just the hinge. Anyway, Wally gave me a quote for a new (upgraded) motherboard, case top, hinge and labor. His quote was $275.00 and my computer is like brand new in looks and functionality. The first place (who couldn't fix it) wanted to charge me $399.00 for the motherboard and send it off to someone else to fix not including the hinge and cracked top. I tell everyone I know who has any computer issues to take it to TJ's Computer Repair. Wally is fair, thorough, and very experienced with all kinds of computers.
