The first day they came they dug an area out to lay the pre-poured concrete pads level with the ground. They then measured all of the positions for posts to determine how much pipe they would need. The next day they cut pipe and inserted the posts in position with the adjustable jack and just put tension on it to hold it in position. They were then ready to start jacking up the house. In addition to the jacks they had to use shims. Two guys came upstairs while one guy remained under the house making the adjustments until they would tell him to stop. I was very impressed with the quality of the materials use they were quite substantial
Description of Work: We had approximately 11 jacks, a 40 ft I-beam installed under the main girder of the house and a 10 ft beam installed perpendicular to the first beam to support the staircase which was beginning to move away from the wall at the top of the stairs by as much as 1-1/2 inches. The log cabin was rebuilt in the 1980's after it had been relocated to it's current location. Let's just say when they reassembled the house they got very creative when it came to the materials used to shim and level the house.

Jason came out to do the quote. We needed to get the correct support for our crawlspace which had been neglected by the previous owners who used temporary jacks on pieces of wood for support. I got a couple quotes from other contractors and companies but felt the materials were inferior. To get the crawlspace support installed, I needed to send the 40% deposit. We knew it was 4-6 weeks out for scheduling so I sent the deposit right away. After a week, I still hadn't heard so I called to see when it would be scheduled for. I was told the owner schedules the installs and he makes calls on Fridays. He never did call. So another week goes by and I called back, the receptionist checked and told me it appeared he penciled me in but did not have the time yet to call. They already had our money and if the boss is too busy to call the client to inform them of the install date then someone else should handle it. The owner eventually did call the week before the installation. Not sure I would even know the install date if I hadn't called. The installation went well and the team of three were professional. I guess we expected the floor to be perfectly level but I understand there is only so much they can do. Our kitchen floor was slightly warped over the years from the lack of correct support so there is only so much you can do to correct it. It cost a pretty penny (even with a 10% discount) but we wanted steel support into cement pads that would last for years to come versus going cheap with wood supports.
Description of Work: Installed three steel support columns onto cement pads and one steel beam in our crawlspace plus level the kitchen floor.

They did a really great job. I had another company look at the home and all they wanted to do was install exterior jacks on the outside of the home, at a cost of over $12,000. Derrick actually got under the home and checked each pier to find if the home was sitting properly on these piers. They did a really good job and treated me fairly. I will definitely use this Ground Up Builders again and now my home is on solid ground and the cracks above the doors have closed.

The house had multiple foundation and support problems due to bad construction. We initially hired a big-box company that advertises regularly on TV. Their work left us in one big mess which resulted among other things in over-lifting which caused extensive interior wall cracking and possibly even more structural damage. I'm guessing they were so hard to communicate with because they didn't know what they were doing. GUB to the rescue. Although it was expensive, the owner and every employee was knowledgeable and easy to communicate with. They corrected much of the problem of the previous company and additionally corrected several severe problems which had not been addressed. They were timely, efficient, and left the premises in better shape than when they arrived. Highly recommend.
Description of Work: Ran below grade downspouts, installed 5 exterior push piers to stabilize the area another company had over-lifted, Jacked up the girder and installed steel shims as needed, installed multiple posts and I-beams as needed, installed a sister joist and support columns.

The job was performed as well as anyone could have expected. Jason and his crew (5 men) showed up every day and worked steady for 7 days 8:30am to 4pm, under some of the most horrendous conditions possible. Freezing cold, wind, sleet and rain on most days. My hat's off to anyone who can jackhammer rocks and dig all day while standing up to their knees in a pit of mud. Everyone was friendly and polite and had a great attitude. I was always kept aware of the job status. Once the piers were installed and pressure adjusted, they tuck pointed all the cracks in the exterior brick, replacing broken bricks and foundation blocks as needed. The quality of the work was such that it is barely noticeable where the damage was. After the holes were filled in and the ground smoothed out, they seeded and strawed the affected areas. I am very pleased with their work and am considering using Ground Up to build an addition on my house.

Foundation repair. Installed 7 piers and raised one corner of the house back to its original position. Installed drainage to ensure water drains away from the house. Very professional. Did it when they said they would and were done when they said they'd be. Price was 1/2 of some others, but they're logic (engineering-wise)was better than the others. I'd use them again and would highly recommend them.

They were absolutely wonderful and they really went above and beyond for me. They were one of the companies that actually helped us and gave us suggestions on things we can do to our house during our estimate. They came back out quickly to do the work and came fully prepared with materials. They worked really hard and worked until it was dark out. I am very satisfied with the work they did.

Took approximately 3 days to install about 200 linear feet of piping (perforated plastic) and a basin/sump. This included digging below the footer to install the interior piping. I had solicited other companies for bids prior to choosing Ground Up who I had never heard of or used before. The owner (Derek) looked over the area, took some measurements and rendered a quote within a day or so. Their pricing was competitive and I felt they would do a better job based on his product knowledge, options, crawl space condition and description of the employees that would be performing the work. One of the reasons I chose Ground Up was that I was dealing directly with an owner who I felt would address any issues that may arise. Although this was not a complicated job, the employees who performed the work were diligent, polite, friendly and knowledgeable about the products and the installation. As a side note, I was made aware of Ground Up through a search on Angie's List. Their positive reviews were encouraging and factored into them being asked to quote. Another company I contacted had a poor review and was asked to explain. Their response was insufficient and was one reason they were downgraded in the final decision. I would not hesitate to use Ground Up for future projects.

tWe chose Ground Up to do the work on our house based on the work they did on a home we sold in 2011, which we were very pleased with. The crew arrived in a timely manner and went straight to work. They were well organized and kept us informed of their progress. Once all the beams were in place, Derek came inside with a long level and made sure the floors were brought back up to level in the areas where settling had occurred. This involved coordinating with the crew in the crawlspace who were adjusting the screw jacks below the floor. My husband watched as an 8-inch crack in the corner of a doorway, one that had been a warning sign of the foundation problems to begin with, began to come together once again. He also watched Derek work to straighten out a door that wouldn't latch because it didn't hang straight. The china cabinet in the dining room no longer rattles when you walk past it, and the floor feels solid as a rock. We are extremely pleased with the results we got from this crew.
Description of Work: We had a structural engineer evaluate the foundation of our home because of some issues we were having. He gave us his recommendations to correct the problems in a written report, which we furnished to Ground Up for their repair estimate. They installed sister joists, steel drop beams, structural steel post/screw jacks, footing pads and replaced the entire vapor barrier in our crawlspace.

We noticed a few months ago some cracks in our house's foundation. Our home builder's warranty proved to be of no use, so we were on our own for repairs. We had three different companies come out to give estimates. I learned quite a bit about foundation repair and lifting houses. One of the contractors was ruled out because of their use of concrete piers. Steel piers were the way to go, since my husband and I would rather get things done right the first time and not have to worry about it again. So between the two remaining contractors, Ground Up Builders was less expensive but without sacrificing quality or service. We worked with Justin, who was so informative and helpful. He came out to our house a second time to finalize the project and answer more of our questions. When the day came for the work, the guys were very nice and professional. They certainly kept us informed on everything they were doing and why it was being done that way. My husband and I both appreciated this. We were not able to be at home when the lifting took place, but we felt comfortable that it was in good hands. The guys were finishing up when we returned home, and so we were updated on the pressure on each pier, how deep the piers went, etc. We were shown the brackets used and the piers used. One of the best things about the experience was that my husband and I were kept updated and we felt completely informed. Everyone we dealt with there was excellent.

Ground Up Builders absolutely saved my family! We just bought our dream home in January 2013. It is an old farmhouse built in 1925 and sits on 10 acres. While we are moving in the heat goes out. The HVAC repair companies all gave very bad news. The crawl space is too tight to work in (12" to 16") and the ducting is faulty. For the record, our home inspector completely missed this problem but we were stuck dealing with it. The more I looked into our problem the worse it got. Eventually we got a grip on the entire problem. Basically, every time it rained, our crawl space flooded. The ducting was crammed into the tight crawl space and it was taking in water. When we opened the return inside the house, we could see standing water in the return trunk line. I realized I could shop vac the water out of the return and get the heat running. The one time I did it, I removed over 50 gallons of water. Completely crushed that we were ripped off and stuck with this problem I got my first bit of good luck. I got in touch with Derek at Ground Up. He said he would do what he could to help us. Boy, he did exactly that! He worked with us the whole way through the job. This job started in January and we got it finished in March. There were so many factors and people to deal with. We had to have the mold re-mediated, the ducting replaced and of course the crawl space repaired. Throughout the entire process, Ground Up was there to help and advise me. I absolutely could not have done it without them. Looking back on all of this I realize now how difficult of a job it was for Ground Up. They had to dig in the mud while protecting the integrity of the peers that held up our home. They had to fix the water intrusion problem. They had to plan for the ducting to be replaced correctly. It was a complicated process that needed to be done right the first time. The conditions were not great out here either. It was either raining or freezing cold and constantly muddy. Nevertheless, they always showed up ready to work. The job required a variety of companies to handle all the problems we had. If Ground Up did not do the work, like the ducting or the mold problem, they would recommend a great company. But no matter what the job was I was happy to know it was getting done the right way. My family cannot thank the people at Ground Up enough. We now have the home that we thought we purchased but even better. Because now the crawl space is updated beyond what we thought was possible. It even smells fresh under there! I would highly recommend Ground Up if you have work that needs to be done. They are honest, family operated and have integrity. Our situation was so bad and stressful. We have a six-year-old son with autism and my wife was 6 months pregnant when we moved in. It was a huge disappointment to purchase a home and to be so excited just to be punched in the face by dishonest sellers. I do not even want to think about what would have happened if I did not come across Ground Up's web site. They came in our home and cared about our situation. Thanks to Derek and his team at Ground Up Builder's, my family is free to enjoy our farm.
Description of Work: Started by adding 2 new access doors to a 12 inch crawl space. Then dug trenches to spec per engineering report. Removed damaged, molded, rusted ducting. Dug more trenches to add piping for water flow. Installed sump pump and basin. Covered pipes with rock. Installed dehumidifier. Installed plumbing for pump and dehumidifier. Encapsulated the entire crawl space.

It was a great experience working with Jim. Having the center of our house demolished for a day is a hassle with 3 little boys much less 2 weeks but Jim and his team went out of their way to make it as painless as possible. Always on time and never disrespectful.
Description of Work: Jim and his team removed the wall dividing the kitchen and dining room, opened up the entry to the living room and installed a new header for support, moved gas/electric and water lines for new appliances and fixtures, installed new tile to blend with existing tile seamlessly, resurfaced ceiling texture, replaced double windows with french doors, painted, installed new recessed lighting and a new wall for mud/laundry room and reconfigured the security system to the new doors.

They did a great job. They were very professional and kept us advised on every step they took.
Description of Work: They did foundation repair on a house that we actually sold. There were some issues that needed to be taken care of so they went in and did the repairs for the new homeowners. We had major foundation issues on the house we just purchased due to poor drainage. We had a structural engineer come to look at the cracking in our brick and block and he recommended push piers to stablize the foundation. The engineer recommended a couple of companies to call and of those I ended up hiring Ground Up Builders. Derek seemed to be the most knowledgeable and experienced, and was very helpful in explaining the whole process. Their pricing was also better. Derek answered the phone every time I called, was prompt, professional, and did great work. They completed the job in less time than expected and left everything neat and tidy. Overall, they did a great job. Derek even went out of his way to help me get documents needed for our construction loan. I would definitely recommend them. The quality of work and customer service were exceptional.
