We were referred to Tommy Salas, one of the owners at A & T Flooring in Murfreesboro, TN. Tommy Salas came out to our house and gave us a quote on August 15, 2015. The quote was $10,500 to sand and stain our hardwood floors. During our initial meeting I explained to Mr. Salas that we had guests coming in town and carpet being installed so the job would have to be finished in two weeks. I asked Mr. Salas if we should hold off. He assured us that it would be not be a problem and agreed to complete the job well within two weeks. I also explained that all the walls had been recently painted upon which Mr. Salas said, ?I am professional and my crew and I would never mess up any of your walls?. He said that in the off chance there was stain on any of the walls he would touch it up and any dust on the walls before the job was complete. Mr. Salas and his crew started the job by moving our furniture. Some of the furniture was moved into a POD we leased. A portion of the furniture was put in the master bedroom, upstairs, garage and the couches and bathroom table was moved onto our back patio. I asked Tommy if it was ok to put the furniture outside on the patio. He said it would not be a problem because the weather was good and he will finish before any rain. After noticing several scratches on the moved furniture, I brought the scratches to Mr. Salas? attention. He responded that he would touch up anything that was damaged. Mr. Salas and crew did not cover the furniture on our back porch so I bought plastic covers and covered it myself. Before Mr. Salas started sanding I asked him how he could limit the dust from sanding. He said his equipment would capture 95% of the stand dust. As Mr. Salas began sanding the dust was floating throughout the entire house. I asked Mr. Salas to please use plastic to cover the fireplace (which had been redone recently) and also to seal the door to our master bedroom and upstairs stairwell. He said he would seal rooms and upstairs hall. He began sanding and did not seal anything. In fact, he did not even close any bedroom door. We were living upstairs and did not realize all the doors were left open. The second day the painting company noticed the open doors and was able to seal the master bedroom and upstairs hallway. Unfortunately the dust had already infiltrated the entire house. After Mr. Salas finished ½ of our floors he requested a check for $3,500. I wrote Mr. Salas the $3,500 check on August 24, 2015. He said he would return the following day to talk about the stain color. That evening I received a text from Mr. Salas saying he needed to finish another job but would be back the following Friday, August 28, 2015. I asked him to please back to discuss the stain color. He said he would drop by and stain a couple stairs on Friday for us to look at. He stained two floors on the stairwell for us to choose the color. Mr. Salas said he would start the following day but that evening we received a call that he could not make it but he would have to reschedule. When he returned he asked for a $2,000 check which I paid him on September 2, 2015. He said he would be back on Sept 3rd but instead on Sept 4th at 7:05 am I received a txt saying he had to bring his truck to the shop for maintenance. I offered to pick him up but he said he needed his truck and would be back later the following week. I asked him to please return on this weekend because we were having guest and carpet installed. He said he would be back when he could be there. He sent me a text on Sept 6th saying he would be at my house on Sept 7th. He started staining the floors but apparently did not apply the same stain technique that he used on the sample floors so the color was completely different. I questioned him about it and he responded when he was finished buffing it would match the color we chose. He was supposed to return the following day to finish the stain and start sanding the rest of the house. What happened next was excuse after excuse. The excused included, guy fell off the truck, he had an emergency job in Indiana, etc., etc.). All along Mr. Salas led me to believe he would make things right. One text said, ?I?ll make it beautiful it will be something to brag about and I hope you give ur friends my number, lol?. After several excuses, I called a professional hardwood guy. He came to the house and could not believe what had happened. He said it was the worst floor job that he?s seen in his 20+ years in the hardwood floor business. He said the floors would need to be re-sanded, stripped and re-stained. He noted: drum indentions throughout hardwood floors, hand prints on walls throughout house (on newly painted walls), floor dust and stain dust adhered to walls, table left on patio rusted. Mr. Salas promised that the job would take less than 2 weeks and it was more than a month before he quit. I WOULD NOT USE TOMMY SALAS or any company he is associated with.
Description of Work: He was hired to sand and stain our hardwood floors. We paid him $5,500 before he quit the job and took our money.
