Overall the entire experience was great

I was very happy with the cabinets and vanities that Hammons Cabinet World made for our first home 16 years ago. They were not perfect, but well made and attractive; that's why I ordered new ones from them. Unfortunately, the new cabinets were not made by skilled cabinetmakers. Many of the problems were due to the manner in which the cabinets were constructed and can only be fixed by remaking all the cases, doors, shelves, and drawers. For instance, the corners of the door and drawer fronts were not cut at 90 degrees, so they cannot be leveled. The shelves and inner braces were cut too small. The drawer slides were incorrectly installed at varying levels. Daris tried to fix some of the problems between February and July of 2010 , but when the wood of the cabinets began to crack and split and some of the joints separated, I offered to pay him 25% of the price to take the cabinets back. He responded through his lawyer, claiming that there were no problems with his work. His lawyer insisted that I seek legal counsel, so I hired a lawyer in August of 2010. To date, many papers have been filed, but his lawyer is consistently slow to respond, so nothing has been resolved. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in July of 2010, but Daris never responded to their letters, so I could not arrange for an arbitrator. I paid $8695 in November of 2009 and was told that the balance would be due upon completion. Unfortunately, Daris asked for money almost every time he arrived to work on the cabinets. He never provided any receipts, but my check stubs show that I overpaid him $2044! He claims that he was not overpaid - that it was for extra work. The only extra work he did was when he tried to fix and adjust the poorly made cabinets and vanities.
