Description of Work: Brought in JD LX178, requested that NO work be preformed until call was made to owners for okay. Took in mower because it wouldnt stay cranked. Called after a couple of weeks, stated that the deck needed new belts and idler pulleys, but had not checked to see if the engine would even stay cranked. When mower was picked up the 2 men pushed the mower on the trailer and broke the bumper, and refused to replace. So now, I have a mower that wont move in F or R, and then had the nerve to get up in ;our faces and tell us they were going to call the police,. Please do not use this business, they will take advantage of you and your money.

Response from SMALL ENGINE SERVICE CENTER
Unit was brought to our business 5-6-11. Customer did not request an estimate. When my mechanic checked this unit he found hood on this was cracked. He removed the hood and set it to the side, customers only complaint was Battery Cable was smoking + Bendix on starter was sticking, customer said unit had new battery. Upon inspection, we tightened battery cables and had to replace the battery it would not charge or even hold a charge my mechanic then inspected the mower and found both Idle pulleys on transmission belt locked up, transmission belt needed changed, transmission cooling fan cracked + Broken, Both belt on cutting deck needed to be replaced. Customer called me and ask about mower, I informed her that it needed a lot of work and the amount of the repair would be $450.87, that would Include making it in and replacing all the parts. I did tell her before this I was writing an estimate and I would call her back. She left 2 cell phone numbers on the ticket at the time She dropped it off, and then when she called about the mower, she gave me a third phone number. I tried all 3 numbers, got no answer or answering machine. Two days later she called me back. We discussed price and what parts needed to be replaced. She then ask me if it would run. I told her I would check with my mechanic to see if he had started. Why would you fix the motor to run and not replace all the other parts to make the tractor to be in correct working order? She then said to make the tractor run first and then call her back, they only wanted me to make it run. My mechanic pulled the Carburetor off the engine, cleaned it twice in order to make this unit run properly, replaced the dry rotted fuel line and fuel filter. When It was running, I called customer to tell her what she wanted was done and they could pick it up, if that is all the repair they wanted done. They asked me what other parts it had to have and I told her again, that all the parts would have to be replaced to make the tractor operational. The man in the background was cussing at her while we were on the phone, saying he didn’t want anything else done they would pick it up. I told her three times that the transmission fan would cause the unit to overheat because it was broken and I would not recommend using it before replacing this part. I also in the same conversation told her she had two bad pulleys and all the belts needed replaced. I would not drive it in this condition. She said they had gotten this mower from her parents and did not know what it needed. In background he was still yelling at her. I told her there was no reason for him to be cussing and yelling over the lawn mower. When they came to get the mower, I refused to drive it to the trailer, due to the fact that the other parts they needed installed were not installed and I knew the mower didn’t drive. I would not drive this unit because not only was the pulleys locked up but, the fan being broken on the transmission would cause the transmission to overheat and in turn would lay the responsibility on me if it locked up. My mechanics pushed it on the trailer and they then tried to say we cracked the hook on the Bumper. They proceeded yelling and threatening the guys. I tried to calm the situation and they just kept yelling. Then she said they never received a call about the bill for the mower, and that I ran a jackleg business. I explained again in the front lot that I would not drive the tractor due to the fan being cracked and the other parts that needed replaced. The more I tried to calm the matter the worse it got. I told her there was no reason to get mad. Husband yelled the hell there ain’t. I turn you over to Corey B. Trots and I’ll get my $154.51. Then she ask me if I knew who her husband’s employer was? I said no. She said he works for Corey B. Trots. They kept yelling sue, sue, sue, continually cussing and yelling. She then ask for a new bumper for her tractor and my mechanics told her no. He then said excuse me, and then threatened to Beat up my mechanic in the parking lot, and proceeded to get in his face and cuss. I told him to back off or I could call the police and he could go to jail and he said he didn’t give a crap, he’d been in jail before. I stepped between them and stopped the argument. We, me and my two mechanics walked back in the shop. We stood at the door with several of my other customers and watched him strap the mower down while yelling and cussing. Then they left, not to be heard from again until I received this letter. I also receive d a call stating that this said customer, called my credit card company and told them she didn’t recognize the charge to her card. Even though she only paid for a Battery, & fuel line, & fuel filter, & carburetor cleaning to make the engine run. To badly this situation got totally out of hand. I’ve done business with many people and different races and never had this many problems till now. I’ve been in business approximately 30 years. I don’t lie & cheat people, that’s not good business practice. I do not wish to do any further work for this customer. I feel I have done what is correct and True. Thank you.

Mower was fixed within a week and cost was low considering the job. The ignition switch was fixed and a solenoid replaced. Also used the center many times before for chain saw sharpening. Usually sharpened on the spot within minutes.
Description of Work: Brought lawn tractor to center to fix. Mower would not start.
