Don is reliable and trustworthy, and absolutely a down(don)-to-earth contractor. Their rate is reasonable. They painted my house beyond what I expected. They did work right, and cleaned after everything is done. They repaired extra without charging extra. I highly recommend Aaron Painting, and I will use them again.

This was by far the BEST experience I've EVER had with a contractor! Don Carpenter is a great guy and a very easy guy to work with. He put me at ease the moment I met him for an estimate (he was the first of 4), and I just knew he was a man of integrity. His attention to detail matched my own which was a plus (I am a perfectionist and stickler for details)! He went above and beyond to address and satisfy whatever I brought to his attention. His crew showed up on time every day and worked until just before dark. He promised a 3 day job to thoroughly clean the exterior of my house, power-wash and treat for any mildew and/or stains, replace rotted wood where necessary, caulk and finally paint 2 coats - and he was a man of his word, three days is what it took! I couldn't be more pleased with the finished product! Not only will I rehire him (I'll be needing some internal painting done next spring) but I'm going to recommend him to everyone I know looking for a reasonable, reliable and skilled crew of painters! EXCELLENT WORK Don, thank you so much... the house looks GREAT!

Excellent! Don and his crew arrived on time, 8 am, all 3 days, took a one hour break for lunch, and quit work around 4 pm. We had pointed out what we knew of rotted wood, but they found much more, mostly window sills and deck wood. Got our approval before doing each job. They also hung a garage LED light for a nominal price. The jobs were brush painted - no sprayers. There was a minimum of overpaint, if any. At the end-of-job inspection, Don immediately corrected the few very minor problems. Great jobs. Highly recommended.

As I told Don, I was really concerned at first because it looked very unorganized and I thought hopefully this is not how this whole process will end. I will tell you, they did a lot of work. I made changes to the original contract and in the end they spent roughly 7 days making it all happen. Did all of the work go the way I would have managed it, not really? But, in the last few days the crew put it all together and I must say, they made what I would call a mess into a masterpiece. I am very happy with the outcome and have had friends, family, and neighbors compliment how great the house and garage look. Bottom line is that they do great work for a fair price!!!!

I could write a dissertation the length of War and Peace as to how "bad" the "process" went with this project. If you hire this company, keep meticulous notes on every conversation that you have with the owner. (I always maintain a notebook of my conversations which I encourage everyone to do to prevent miscommunication.). Any time you question the owner (Don Carpenter), he takes the position that he is always right and he can be very condescending. I will explain that in a minute. Here are details of our experience. I asked for a quote for "both" 1 and 2 coats of paint. The estimate clearly read "for second coat add 50%." Subsequent to the quote, I contacted Sherwin Williams. We had previously used S/W paint and S/W replaced the paint under the warranty (5 gallons = one coat). S/W told us that Duration paint was one coat coverage paint and we would not need two coats. We subsequently hired Don and told him S/W would be providing the 5 gallons of paint at no cost. Don told us he would start in two weeks. When we had not heard from Don for two weeks, I sent him a text message. He had a personal situation and had been out of town. I told him to start my girlfriend's project first (I had liked him well enough initially to recommend him to her). Don will tell you that he only works on one project at a time so he can concentrate on you. However, although not finished with my friend's project, he called us at 6:45 on a Monday morning and asked if he could start work on our job. My husband had to be gone until 9 a.m. Don called before he was due back and needed the paint color. (Seems like Don should have rethought the need for the paint color and asked us about that at 6:45 a.m.). Instead, I had to get my neighbor to open my garage and get the old paint can for him. We have to say the workers showed up on time each day and worked hard. But Don was NEVER ON SITE to talk to us or check on them. Thus, the "C" rating for punctuality. WE had to manage the process. We could not communicate with the workers because they were all Hispanic and "ACTED" like they did not understand English although Don told us that they did. Once when I was upset because the workers could not communicate with me, I called Don. He responded that "he had been painting for 38 years" and basically who was I to tell him how to do the job. (Funny, he wasn't the one actually doing the job.) I was ready to fire the crew him right then and hung up. We have painted a lot of houses in our lifetime and the job never went like this one. Later in the day, one of the workers broke our garage door because he kept pushing the button to re-engage the door chain, and it burnt up the capacitor. Don DID show up that night because we were furious that our garage door was inoperable. While Don was here, we finally talked about the job that had been going on for two days and the things that we were not happy about. Our thought process was to get this job over with and get them off our property. Had we known that we were going to be the ones managing the process, we would have hired someone to replace the rotten wood and painted the house ourselves. We are just getting older and didn't want to do it. As I mentioned, there was no professionalism. As I also mentioned, we were contacted one hour before he was ready to start the job. He never came by to discuss the job in its entirety before he started. He never gave us a contract to sign for the work to be done (for which we later had a disagreement when it came time for payment). Other issues we encountered were as follows: 1) When the workers started, they did not cover our water fountain and they let paint scrapings fall in the water which clogged the fountain (3 hours for husband to repair fountain). 2) After painting the garage door, the worker could not get the garage door re-engaged and kept pushing the button which burnt up the capacitor (repair bill charged to job). However, Don argued that his worker did not cause the capacitor to burn up when the repair person with (46 years experience) told us that was exactly what caused the issue. 3) The workers were not careful with our landscaping and destroyed all our nice plantings (another expense we will incur to replace). 4) Nails were left everywhere, especially in the driveway. When we asked why they didn't use one of the metal devices to pick up the nails, the device was on another job (my friend's house). 5) Our water hoses were left in a mess and they are non-kink hoses. 6) The water was not turned off on the hoses each day. 7) The workers unplugged our sprinkler box to use their microwave for lunch and flipped the breaker. We had to investigate why we couldn't get our sprinkler to work. 8) When they started to paint, we noticed the workers had painted over the bugs rather than cleaning the window seals. We had to have them sand the window seals and redo that. 9) We live in a nice neighborhood. The workers left plastic drink bottles and trash all over the yard while they worked. The front yard looked like a trash dump. They left the rotten work at the edge of the front yard until the job was done. My husband had to clean up the yard each evening. Although we are happy with the end product, we did NOT hire this company for US to have to manage the process, clean up behind them, and have their lack of professionalism mistakes repaired. If companies are going to use Hispanic labor, then one of those workers needs to speak enough English to adequately communicate with homeowners. Or, the contractor needs to be ON SITE several times per day instead of being too busy going around getting estimates for the next job. Our job took 3 1/2 days and I would estimate that Don was on site 1.5 - 2 hours but an hour of that was the night the garage door failed. I know this has been long. This was just not a good experience. I don't want anyone else to go through this without being aware first.
Description of Work: We hired this company to paint the exterior of our home and replace rotten wood. The company had a "Super Rating" with Angie's List. The owner, Don Carpenter, was immediately responsive to give us a quote.

They were great. They did a great job. I have nothing but great things to say. He was a reliable contractor. He did a great job. He was reliable and you could get a hold of him. He was genuine and honest. I would hire him again in a second. The price was very fair. He had other workers working with him. I met with him, but I was not here when they did the work. They were very productive. They weren't sitting around, they rolled up their sleeves and they got to work. They got the job done in just 2 days.

I had them paint 3 houses for me. I have more to do. I enjoyed working with Don. Then he fell off the map. Won't call back. Won't show up. Says he is coming then disappears. Then shows up a week later and says he is getting estimates together and will call shortly with prices. Then never calls. It's all weird and I won't call him back for anything. Who just stops calling and showing up? Or says they want the work and then doesn't even send a bid?

We were in need of a lot of repair to our aging home. So much so that one contractor didn't even get back with us for a quote uh Humm ( Top Notch). Everything went great. Quote was thorough, reasonably priced and they came when they said they would. While replacing wood Don mentioned that there was a little more that needed to be replaced than the quote covered (200$ more). He gave it to us at cost for material which is his policy if quote is exceeded. Did not require a deposit (which we would have been ok with) and worked off and on (due to weather) for about a week. All repairs are very well done, painting, clean up and communication all excellent. Don't be put off if you are in need of extensive work. They did a great job!
Description of Work: Extensive wood repair and painting to top half of house. Fascia, sides, wood on front of house and window frames including new wood around bay window, and gutter set in place. All sealed and painted. Even fixed our double door gate - I just bought new hinges.

Let me first start by saying that this is my first negative review on Angie's List. And while I can recognize quality work, as the paint job was done well, the professionalism/communication leading up to the paint job and at its conclusion left much to be desired. I used this company for an exterior paint job several years ago, and I was very pleased with the job done. When my parents planned a move to the area, I contacted Aaron Paint and Construction about a job for their home. I met with Don, the owner, more than a month prior to the job. I discussed the paint color with him and even offered to get him a color card, but he denied the need until closer to the start of the job. When he provided a $1800 quote for one coat of paint, I was under the impression that he was confident one coat would cover it. A week prior to the job, I was the one that had to initiate conversation to tell him the paint color again so that he could have the paint ready. I confirmed the start date with him three different times in the month leading up to October 1st, and after three confirmations he still didn’t show up on October 1st; after an unanswered text that morning and a follow-up phone call, to which he answered using a fake name claiming that he thought I was a telemarketer calling his company number, he said that he forgot about starting our project on that date. His guys showed up the next day and did a nice job painting the house; however, it was obvious that a second coat was going to be needed on day one. He texted about settling the bill, and I asked for the address and attempted to confirm the price of the job; he replied with the address and no confirmation of the price. Therefore, I sent a check based on the quote he provided initially. He has since initiated five texts in the last four days saying that he wasn’t paid for the second coat. I’m not complaining about paying for a job done, but a professional should be able to look at a job and include all potential costs on the quote. I was only told after I sent the check (after attempting to confirm the price via text) that the second coat was 50% the cost of the initial quote. In his final attempts to justify his case, he then tried to put the blame on me when saying, “I said one coat, thought you said same color.” Then he followed up by saying, “I always say two coats if were [sic] changing color.” This is untrue, as in our initial conversation, I explained the silver/taupe color desired to cover up a butter yellow paint and even offered to provide him with a paint card. The most unsettling piece of all of this is the lack of communication and even no-showing for a job after several confirmations then deciding to communicate only when he is attempting to get money. The check for the remainder of the price was mailed out this morning, and I’ve never been more excited to have a project over. If consistent communication is important to you, think long and hard about this hire.

After meeting Donald at my house and walking through the job requirements, Donald provided me a written estimate within minutes. This included the painting, wood repairs and cost of paint. Donald explained what he would do and what kind of paint would work best - he was very knowledgeable and obviously very experienced. I got multiple quotes but based on Donald's very reasonable estimate and, just as important, my comfort level with him, we agreed to move forward. He and his crew started two days later and completed the job within 4 work days. Donald was available via text and phone throughout the process. Everyone I encountered was very friendly and professional. They cleaned up before leaving ...and the house looks GREAT! The wood repair work looks like new. There were no surprises and my final cost was his original estimate. He even did a few extra things for no extra cost. Thank you Donald!! I could not be more happy with the final results. I highly recommend this company.

Don Carpenter and his Aaron Painting Team did a wonderful job on painting the exterior of our home! My husband and I appreciate Mr. Carpenter's patience and professionalism in guiding us through the painting process and even filling us in on other work that our home desperately needed, for example, wood and gutter replacement. I was really concerned about the window trimming that looked bad, but Mr. Carpenter assured me that they could fix this. Even though we had a couple of companies that we received estimates from whose prices were comparable, they did not match up to the painting expertise and quality that Mr. Carpenter and the Aaron Painting Team provided. I have to say that our house looks "great" all because Aaron Painting cared! I would be happy to refer this company to anyone!

My initial contact with Aaron painting & Construction was great and they were timely in providing me with a quote and recommendations about what he felt should be done. The quoted price was reasonable when compared to other service providers. However, on the first day of painting the painter that was sent out was careless and damaged many newly planted perennials in my flower bed and knocked over several potted plants breaking branches in the process. In addition, I returned home to find a small pile of trash and razor blades in one small pile in the grass of my yard which was concerning because I have 5 children. Once the issues regarding the plants had been addressed my water hose was still thrown over plants on two more occasions. While Donald did offer to replace the plants they were not in such bad shape that they could not recover and grow back over some time. I then had to address with Donald that his painter had missed a downspout on the first coat of my exterior and removed a insulation cap from my water spigot in such a way that it was broken beyond repair. Once the water spigot winter cover was brought to their attention it was just simply set back over the water spigot broken - I will have to buy another water spigot cover despite there attempt to hide the fact that it still remained broken. As painting come to a close I opened my back door only to find a poorly edged paint job to the back door that looked like a dog had scratched the edges. Of the edge what was in fact painted was stuck to the door seal and as a result pulled paint off the door. Considering the problems I have had with the painter and the fact that I am replacing the exterior doors within several weeks I did not even bring it up to Donald. There were too many various problems that it was no longer worth bringing up issues - I just wanted to pay for the job and be done. Though, Donald did ask to be informed of problems and troubles I identified after the job was complete. There were too many problems and too little response to problems that they were made aware of by myself that I did not want the trouble of having them resolve the issues with less than optimum solutions.

Donald was punctual from the start. After we walked around the house and discussed the job, he put together a very detailed and reasonable quote for the work that needed to be done. His crew arrived on time each day and were very professional & courteous throughout the 3 days they were on the job. After the job was completed, they cleaned up as if they were never there. Very pleased with the work and will definitely use again as well as recommend to friends and family.

Aaron Painting had done a great job on the exterior of our home and we were looking forward to the same results on this interior project. Our original plans were just to paint the paneling, but Donald told my husband that he could fill the grooves and we would never know that it was paneling. We approved the project and the additional $300.00 charge. His brother performed the ceiling work and was unreliable in showing up and had an aggravating attitude...but he also pointed out some work that needed to be fixed and promised to return to take care of it. We paid the fee and thought everything was fine. In a few weeks floor to ceiling cracks began to appear in the paneling paint, the grooves that were filled began to show and look unsightly, the new piece of paneling that was hung and painted, became wavy and very noticeable. The ceiling was never fixed and began to show uneven streaks and not very smooth sheetrock. We called Donald immediately when we noticed the problems and he came over several times. Winter arrived, so we agreed to wait until Spring to have the work done. He came out again and we exchanged more phone calls, the last he said he would consult a sheetrock man. We were trying to work with him to remedy the problem that he once said "If you stand over here you won't see "it" (referring to the ceiling problems.) It is now almost two years after the initial work, and we're still waiting for the repairs. I suppose we should have hired someone else to fix the problems we were left with, but resent the fact that we paid for a job and still have an unacceptable outcome.

Courteous / Professional at all times Showed up when he said he would be there. Began and completed work promptly as scheduled. Cleaned up completely. Best service I have seen in the more than two decades we have been in Memphis and the best of a number of different painters we have used before.
