The tile started coming down within 2 weeks of installation. it was an insurance job, so they didn't care. i called many times as there was so much that went wrong it was unbelievable. The last thing on the lengthy list of problems was that subcontractors emptied the liquor cabinet, which explained the horrible job. I just had to have the whole bath room re-tiled last week as all the grout came off. I have pictures documenting this whole nightmare. State farm did not stand behind the contractor at all. After 3.5 years the tile was coming down and water was getting behind the tile. I had no choice but to have it redone before it got mold. Come to find out, they tiled part of the shower directly to the dry wall. I was told that State Farm does not cover mold. So you're on your own. It took me this amount of time and many professional attempts (more $$) at fixing it, but 3.5 years was the entire lifespan of a bathroom tile job that should have lasted a lifetime. The whole thing had to be ripped out and redone.
Description of Work: WHC subcontracted tile work. A small 4'x8' bath with shower, no tub. WHC was recommend by my State Farm agent, but would not stand behind him at all once things went bad.

This experience began well with Servicemaster bringing large fans/dehumidifiers into our home in a prompt, courteous and professional manner. The fans were left running for several days until it was determined the hardwood was dry. We were then told due to subfloor warping, all affected hardwood areas would have to be removed and replaced. We were assured that once the work was complete, it would be "just like new". We custom designed and built our home in 2004 and the flood occurred in July 2006, so the home was still in excellent condition. We were given no special instructions for which to prepare for the hardwood removal in advance by the contractor, but the morning the hardwood subcontractors arrived, I was told that we should remove as many items from the kitchen, breakfast area and keeping room as possible to minimize sawdust accumulation on these items. Since we were given no advance notice of this, my husband had already left for work and I had to repeatedly climb up and down a stepladder while 6 months pregnant removing the decorative items above the cabinets. Besides the stress, this also caused me to be late for work for the first of many times during this process. The affected hardwood was removed over the next few days and replaced with inferior materials. The new subfloor plywood (more like particle board) was thinner and spongier than the original plywood, which resulted in the new hardwood being uneven with the rest of the hardwood. It also does not feel as solid underneath as the rest of the floor. The floor slopes up now where the new floor meets the old floor because the new floor is lower than the old floor. The cabinets were not removed to replace the floor, so there are gaps in the harwood around the cabinets. They also used a wood filler throughout which has long since "chipped out" with the movement of the floor. The morning of the staining process, I was told they could not match the current stain on the floor and I would have to pick a new one. I informed them we wanted the same color we had originally chosen and they stated unless we provided them with the name of the stain right away, they were going to stain with a similar color so as not to delay the process. Again, my husband had already left for work and I was left to go knock on the builder's door (who fortunately lives in the same neighborhood) who provided me with the name of the stain used in the building process. This caused me to be late for work yet again. Regarding the painter, we have fluted columns and extra wide baseboards. The bottom trim on the fluted columns was removed as well as most of the baseboards, due to both water damage and to replace the hardwood. The baseboards that weren't removed had to be recaulked and repainted as they were bowing out from the wall due to the water damage. The painter called to reschedule on several occasions and ended up making several visits to finish the work. The original caulk was not scraped off the existing baseboards, rather they were recaulked and repainted, and they now have an uneven, patched appearance. The bottom trim on the fluted columns was not put back on properly either and there are gaps where the edges meet now. All of this was brought to the contractors attention and futile attempts were made to correct the problems after multiple subsequent complaints. Regarding the stained trim around the cabinets, a very nice older gentleman did the work, however, because they had inadvertantly discarded the original trim, all had to be replaced. I believe he did the best he could, however to this day, we must "kick" the trim back into place from time to time. Finally, I had to ask the contractor if he was going to replace the carpet in the closet, as when you opened the door, the mildew smell was incredibly strong. The contractor had overlooked this, but did replace it after we brought it to his attention. Bottom line, I would not recommend this contractor to anyone. The hardwood subs and painter were extremely unprofessional and their work was shoddy.
