His prices are always better than the competition and he frequently does something extra for free (e.g. provide a missing light cover.) He always does what he says when he says, and as others have noted, if something isn't right he will fix it for free and very cheerfully. I've used him for years and I won't use anyone else. You won't be disappointed!

Mr Peattie came by this morning to check the operation of my garage door. My neighborhood is 20 yrs old so I have the original garage door and its mechanisms. He gave fair prices on parts that would need replacement in the future when the need arises. He keeps some small parts on his work vehicle and advised me how to keep the working parts on the door lubricated so as to last longer. He has no additional employees but he is efficient and sufficient to do the work needed himself. Very pleasant and easy to converse with. He does not work weekends however, but will return calls asap during the week. Yes I will recommend him to my associates and neighbors. Very cordial.
Description of Work: Gave reasonable estimate for parts needed now and in the future.

I went back to a company I usually use and they were able to get it working. I would never use him again because I don't think he was telling me the truth. I think he was trying to get me to buy a brand new motor. I have several remotes and he couldn't get some of them to work and said it was because of the motor. The other company I used came in and got it working.
Description of Work: He looked at my garage doors and said the motor wasn't working.

Response from Southern Overhead Door
[Member name removed]'s comments were transcribed incorrectly in her review. She was trying to say that she would never use the original company she called out and that they were lying to her. I was able to help [Member name removed] and she was very happy (which is why she gave me an A review). Thank you.

Robert was recommended to me over ten years ago. He repaired and, a few years later, replaced my garage door opener. My garage door was splitting, and I thought it needed to be replaced. He bolted supports to it, and it lasted another six or seven years. The door finally had to be replaced. After Robert checked the door while I was at work to see if he could make a repair, he agreed it needed to be replaced. He also made an adjustment so the door would operate until he could install a new door. He completed the work a couple of days later for the amount he quoted. He is very professional, and I would strongly recommend him.
Description of Work: Replaced garage door and trim.

The owner of SOD is reliabe, honest, knowledgeable, and very capable. My experience went just as a neighbor who recommended the firm said it would. The owner of SOD called me back within 30 minutes of leaving a message, arrived when he said he would, went to work right away, provided me with valuable information about the garage door operator system that I never knew, fixed the problem created by the other repair firm and charged me a very, very reasonable fee. No other firm will ever work on my door again and it's my hope, in completing this review to help other home owners navagate the abundance of tradesmen who don't know what they're doing, have low service standards, and feel their fees should equal those of neurosurgeons.
Description of Work: This company was called to complete work that had been done incorrectly by another firm that had been here 5 times over the course of 3 months. SOD replaced a broken roller, realigned our garage door and lubricated the entire system.

I called Southern Overhead Door to resolve a problem that developed whereby local radio frequency interference was causing decreased opener response to the remotes. It reached a point where the door would not open unless the remote was less than 5 feet from the garage door. The sole proprietor technician at Southern Overhead Door replaced the Chamberlain opener's main board which initially seemed to solve the problem. However, at different times of the day, performance again deteriorated to the point of being unacceptable. The technician returned and replaced the control board with one of a different frequency range as a service warranty replacement. This board worked very well, but we soon learned that its frequency band was so new that it was not compatible with our vehicle's HomeLink onboard remote control system. I reported this matter to the technician just for his information since my opener system was working fine. But he stated that all aspects of my system should work as expected. He voluntarily returned for another warranty service call to replace the control board with one that operated at a different, but more common frequency range compatible with HomeLink. This also required exchange replacement of the remotes and outdoor keypad, all at no additional cost to me. I can't say enough good things about the services performed by Southern Overhead Door and the business ethics of its owner, Robert Peattie. My experience is that he does what is needed to ensure his customer is satisfied with the work and charges a fair price for his services. Garage door service is an industry populated by many charlatans who provide a lowball telephone estimate and then once on the job, find multiple reasons to justify a much higher bill or hard sell the unsuspecting customer with "important" but unneeded replacement parts or unnecessary hardware upgrades. Anyone needing garage door services in the Memphis metro area will be well served by calling on Southern Overhead Door.
Description of Work: Replaced garage door opener main control board. Technician returned to replace the board a second and third time at no additional cost when initial attempts failed to thoroughly correct the problem.
