Matt and his crew of 4 did an excellent job. They were an attention to detail kind of crew. One thing that sets Matt above many other contractors is that when he sees something extra that needs to be done, he does it . Matt is very professional, knowledgeable, and competent along with being a skilled craftsman. I would hire Matt to do any work from a small renovation to major construction. Matt and his crew were a joy to be around. Great job! S & M gets our highest recommendation possible.

It went very well. On the job as scheduled. Stayed with it every day. Overcame surprises with no additional negotiation. Easy to work with. Knew what he wanted to do once the scope was established, explained ideas clearly & got work done in good time. Cleaned up every day. Should have been more conscious of lawn & shrubs especially during tear-out of walkway.

Both owner Matt and his employee James has died the work. Very efficient use of time.. While one of them relocated existing shelving, other handled purchase of necessary hardware at local store. They arrived punctually on schedule and rapidly completed the work effort professionally with no mess left behind. I highly recommend S & M Customs to anyone seeking gone improvement work.

Scheduled an appointment for Friday afternoon at 4 to 5 o'clock. The contractor forgot about the appointment and indicated that he had until 5PM because (He said) The appointment is "between 4 and 5 o'clock"! (Which is mindboggling logic!) He had actually earlier in the week changed it from 5PM to 4PM. He got stuck in traffic, and cancelled the appointment until the next Morning. He did show up the next day (Saturday morning) on time, and I had to request that he take notes! I was astonished that he took zero measurements and just eye-balled the size of the room to calculate the square footage. He came up with 750 square feet. I later calculated 710. 40 Square fee difference would have cost me at least $200 extra. This isn't what anyone would expect from a professional. I was hoping to get him to match a quote from a contractor who indicated he would charge me $5 a square foot to "Purchase all products, Rip-out, dispose of, and Install Mannington Hickory Hardwood with all Trim". (Another contractor did this for me at my other house, but I thought I'd give S&M a chance to match it before I would call them again)! The S&M representative misunderstood my request (because he didn't write it down) and quoted me $5 a square foot just to install the hardwood! I would have to provide all the Materials (Hardwood, Glue and Trim). On Monday after getting the quote from "Matt", I pointed out the few discrepancies in the numbers and requested his feedback in an e-mail I never Heard back from him all week. On Friday afternoon I told him I could not wait any longer. Matt indicated that his team of 5 is extremely busy, and they could not complete my work for at least Two Months unless some of his guys worked nights and weekends.

I purchased one of their bathroom remodel specials. I wanted them to rip out the old down to the studs & redo my master bathroom. My previous shower pan had failed necessitating some work, so I decided to just redo the whole thing. They provided some materials but I had to supply the tile, new toilet, new vanity, medicine chest, & shower system. As a big project it took a while...I believe it spanned several weeks in duration. They worked well with my dogs in the area which was very much appreciated. Upon completion it looked wonderful. Since I've had an issue with a leak which appeared to be a faulty shower pan. Mr. Matt has responded promptly.

Punctual, did the work as promised, answered questions.

Several things that were supposed to be done were not completed. They had broke our glass stove when putting in the granite counter tops and attempted to patch it up with glass glue. He said he would be speaking with Sears about paying for the repair. I have many issues with the service and unfinished work they have never came back to complete. I haven't heard from them since about completing the rest of the job or repairing the stove they broke. They also tried to raise the price twice during the project. There were multiple days when they didn't come to the house because of other jobs and when they did come, it was only for a few hours at a time, which ended up delaying the entire project much farther than the completion date.

I'ma very satisfied customer of S & M Customs. Great price for the work requested. Matt & crew did an excellent job. They showed up on time and completed all work & clean up in a timely manner. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

I could not have been more impressed. I always worry about having someone in my house that I can trust and I also want to get a fair price but by someone that is a perfectionist like myself. Steven came right out to give me a quote. I had another estimate and he was fair and seemed very knowledgable in comparison. My mom happened to be in town at the time and has multiple projects done at her house out of town and agreed that he seemed perfect to do the jobs. Once agreed upon services he was prompt, courteous, detailed, hard working, clean, and did a job that exceeded expectations. This seems rare in today's world so when someone exceeds my expectations it is something to talk about. His staff also represented the company well. I definitely will be using them for future projects and would recommend them. They believe in their company, their work, and their name.

They came out about one or two days after I purchased the Big Deal. The Big Deal was for one-and-a-half hour. I did not pay more than the $55 Big Deal. I will be calling them back to do some woodwork to be done through my house. I would refer them because they were great.

I had work done by S & M Customs in September, 2014 and they did a good job. Most recently, I contacted them on January 8, 2015 regarding additional service. I was told that they could come out on Tuesday, January 13 and didn't need to go through Angie's list because I had already used their service. Since they didn't show up on January 13, I called and was told that they were going to Collierville and wouldn't be available all day and they suggested that I call them the next day, January 14. When I called them on January 14, I left a voicemail message on both of their contact numbers and since they didn't return my call, I called again on Friday, January 16 and left a voicemail message on both of their contact numbers. Since I still haven't heard from them, I decided to write this review. In my opinion, their behavior is unprofessional and perhaps they preferred to do a larger more expensive job instead of my small job. Anyway, I just wanted Angie's list to know this. I do not plan to use S & M Customs again, and the next time I need a handyman I'll get a different one from Angie's. Thank you, Angie's for your wonderful service!

S & M put a back door on our Midtown house where there was previously just a window. They were very nice and very prompt. They told me it would take 2 days and they worked very hard to make that a true statement despite some problems with the door that were outside of their control. The door works great and we love having direct access to our backyard! They were very professional and made sure I was aware when things changed. My only qualm was that the person cleaning up used our tiny bathroom sink instead of our larger kitchen sink to wash out some of their tools and made a bit of a mess. Very minor though and easily cleaned, and no harm done! Overall, very happy with the experience and we look forward to using them in the future!

They were suppose to come back to finish the work they agreed to do, however, I have not heard from them. I have tried to reach them on two different occassions and have not been able to get them to come back out to finish the work. Also, they estimated that the cost would be $300.00 and I have already given them $250.00 and was supposed to give them rest when they came back to finish the work. I haven't been very happy with this service provider and hope that they come back and finish the job I am paying them to do.

Not good to ignore potential customers. Maybe it's time to hire a scheduler??

This was a renovation of the entire second floor of my 90-year-old house in prep for putting it on the market. The work included ceiling and wall repair followed by painting in three bedrooms, a hallway and a bathroom, plus a little work in the roof to cure a stubborn leak around the chimney flashing. Matt and his crew did such fine work that the real estate agent has added the company to her (rather exclusive) contacts list.

Steve's a bit of a perfectionist so his work took longer than he'd estimated, but on the other hand the ceilings are now flawless. He started by carving out a small hunk of one ceiling so he could take it to the paint store to get an exact color match -- "ceiling white" is only approximate, especially in a house as old as this one is. Then he and his son blanketed the walls and furniture with plastic sheeting, mudded in and sanded down the cracked areas, then went after the rest of the ceiling in each room which had been "good enough" to my eye but not to his. Only after all the ripples had been smoothed over did he put up paint. Michelangelo would have been happy to pick up where Steve left off. Chris was called on for part of the project. When he'd done his part of the ceiling work he cut up and removed the old carpet from the living and dining rooms. That work involved moving a lot of furniture around and then he and I moved a spinet piano in from another room. The whole crew was polite, friendly, knowledgeable of their craft, hard-working and left the house looking a lot better than when they arrived.

I had to insist that he prime the bare wood, but he did a good job. Mine was the first job he had done under this program so there was a little confusion re when his time started ( when he pulled into the drive and got his ladder out or when he knocked on my door or when he actually started the work) We were able to resolve this.

If he is not ready to do the job, it would be nice to know in advance. If you offer a deal, you should be ready to do the job. He is not so friendly either.

They did an excellent job replacing my mailbox and post and cleaned up after themselves. Both gentlemen were very professional and pleasant. I would definitely recommend their company and I would use them again for any of the services they offer.

All jobs were performed in a timely manner and communication was great. I wasn't able to be at the house at the time of repair, but if they had any question at all, they contacted me to verify. This is the second time I've used them, and would use them again for just about any household repair.

Three men showed up, on time, and the work was completed quickly and completely to my satisfaction.

Matt is my lifesaver! I needed to get my house ready to list in a short time frame due to a job relocation and there were a couple things that I could not do myself. The contractor I had used previously was unavailable and several other people I called were booked too far in advance. Matt was able to send somebody out for me to fix up a closet for me over the weekend. When Matt checked in with me to see how things were going, I asked if it might be possible to get a broken kitchen tile replaced and Matt was able to swing by and fix it up for me in no time! Both projects look great and Matt was great to work with... highly recommended!
