These guys turned the entire upstairs from unusable to comfortable. And, they made the upstairs and downstairs more energy efficient. When we started, I had a few doubts that it would be worth the investment. I'm writing this review more than a year after the work was completed... so we've been through all seasons. IT IS WORTH THE INVESTMENT. Not only is the upstairs now great (it was previously unusable due to improper insulation and other builder gaps... terribly hot in summer and uncomfortable in winter), but our electric bill is lower. In summer, what used to be a $500 utility bill is now more like a $300 utility bill. Incredible attention to detail, these guys are experts in their field. They do quality work, no shortcuts. They're serious about making meaningful changes that yield a return. Our family is feeling the difference in our house and in our wallet year round. We appreciate a job well done and would absolutely use this company again. (Note that there were some TVA eScore benefits available at the time our work was done, so that helped offset the cost a bit.)

Mr [Member Name Removed], Thanks for this review! You've really laid out the most convincing case for energy efficiency work done thoroughly and completely rather than cheaply and slap dash. Everything went very well. Despite encountering extreme heat and frequent rain Neighborhood Pro Builders were very consistent with getting the work done. They explain everything when you have questions and are very thorough in their work. When they finish a job it is clean and you can't tell there was even a problem to begin with. We have used NPB at least 3 other times for painting and repair and will absolutely use them the next time we need anything!

They left the area clean. As a matter of fact, one of them got some paint on an extension cord that just happened to be around. They replaced my extension cord before I knew what was going on. It took about a week. This room is huge plus a stairwell.

He gave us a general idea but we also had some other repairs and things. I think the total job was $4500. The estimate was free. We won't get a final thing until later today and then they will start work in a few weeks. The estimate worked out good. I chose to go with them because a friend of our had used them and they had done a good job at their house. So, we tried them here at our place, they did a good job, and continued to use them.

NPB was professional and thorough in walking through changes that would make the greatest impact on the house. Price was comparable to other estimates, but slightly higher. Choosing NPB paid off because the work was done meticulously and on time. In the time since the job was finished, the comfort and energy use in the house has improved.

They are on Angie's List. My experience with them was good. I have known Dave Trentlage for ten years, and he has done work for me. They did what they said they were going to do. With regard to price, I think I could have gotten it done cheaper, but we are always afraid to use an unknown human being.

I contacted 8 different providers on Angie's List and 3 - just 3 responded back. Dave came in middle of the road on price but head and shoulders above on professionalism. Having just purchased my home it was not yet occupied and I was looking for a contractor that could work with me on my projects for years to come. Neighborhood Pro Builders is definitely the team for me. This started out as a quote for a full guest bathroom remodel and let's just say my desires out weigh my budget which lead to the 'must get done now' list that Dave and his team worked on. The downgrade to a B I punctuality had to do with initial start day was delayed. It was due to the job before mine going longer and the painters not being able to start as planned. Things like this happen but if your schedule is tight I want you to know mine was off by 2 days. My plan is have them replace my windows in the early spring and then do the roof in late spring and hopefully sometime we can get back to redoing the guest bath.

Neighborhood pro builders were quite punctual, and extremely knowledgeable. Not only that, they ended up in a tricky situation as to where the new was going to go. I was highly impressed with their intuitiveness and fluidity in working with an extremely small and awkward amount of space. In addition, I had previous estimates from other contractors which were relatively higher. Good price + good service = big win! I will definitely be going back to neighborhood probuilders for quite a lot in the future.

Neighborhood Pro was very professional, easy to easy to work with and did a great job. The owner David Trentlage came to my house and we discussed what I wanted. He gave me a detailed and realistic estimate on the cost of the projects. He was also great at keeping me posted on how everything was progressing. The work crew was very skilled and did a beautiful job, I couldn?t be more pleased. After all the jobs were completed, they cleaned up everything very nicely, hauled away all the trash materials from the jobs. David and I walked through and inspected each project together to make sure I was completely satisfied. Neighborhood Pro Builders is also active in various aspects of home energy efficiency, and they had a lot of good advice about how I could improve my house heat/cold loss. I definitely recommend them!

The contractor arrived on time and was professional and courteous, as well as thorough. We had several conversations over the phone and in the end, I realized that my budget wouldn't allow the work at the time. They were so very patient with me and helpful. While he was at my home, my air conditioner quit working. He called an HVAC contractor for me and the man was at my house within 30 minutes. The money I spent was on repair of the AC unit and not the roof. I would recommend this company to my friends and neighbors. They are not the cheapest, but definitely know their stuff and are a pleasure to do business with.

Response from Neighborhood Pro Builders
This customer obviously did a much smaller scope of work than what he asked us to quote. The fact that we always bid the job done correctly and thoroughly with quality materials and craftsmen means we run counter to "lowest is best bid" thinking. There is no sales rep--just the owner of the company with 30 years experience bidding successfully and fairly. BUT we don't cut corners to meet low bids.
Once again, NPB did a great job. The work was completed in a reasonable amount of time with minimum disruption. The tinting led me into a third project with NPB, which is truly Dave Trentlage's passion, which I will cover in a third report. Whatever your project, it's at least worth a call to NPB to get an estimate. Dave can be a great advisor on any project. And, he's a general contractor so he can do any project on your house that you may need. I will definitely use NPB in the future!
Description of Work: The initial project started as just some interior painting and carpentry work as follows: 1. Paint interior guest bedroom (including trim and crown molding)2. Replace saddle threshhold on door from kitchen to back yard. 3. UV film and caulk for window in "hot" 2nd floor bonus room and 2nd floor bedroom on opposite side of house. Total cost for initial project was $1,350. The UV film had such a profound effect on keeping the bonus room cool that I had Neighborhood Pro Builders ("NPB") add UV film on some hot spot rooms on the first floor and a huge window in the house entryway. The house entryway window had always been a problem with the setting sun. I had another 13 windows tinted. Total cost for the tinting addition was about $1,390 with the remainder for some misc. maintenance stuff.

This project marked the 2nd time I have used Neighborhood Pro Builders ("NPB") (the first time was in 2010) and I am very happy with their work. Dave Trentlage is extremely knowledgeable and very thorough in the preparation of project estimates. He is also very helpful in pointing out things that need to be corrected and the most effective, cost-efficient way of getting to that correction. NPB's crew showed up on time, as promised, and completed the painting and repair project in just two days. They did a great job in cleaning up the work site after they were done. Perhaps the best thing NPB did for the project was to help repair / improve a problem spot on my roof with water runoff that was causing the trim to rot out. This was a similar type of repair that they had done for me on another house in 2010. The repair entailed using a PVC type product that looks like regular white board trim (won't rot) and flashed behind the problem area to prevent water getting behind the trim. NPB is trying to do more than just paint your house - they will work with you and suggest reasonable ways to solve problems at your home! I will definitely use NPB again!
Description of Work: I had some exterior work to do on one of my houses as follows: 1. Pressure washed exterior before painting2. Painted exterior (caulked as appropriate prior to painting)3. Repaired problem spot on house where trim was rotting out due to rain not running off properly4. Installed a storm door on front of house

The project went extremely well. NPB's crew showed up on time and was very courteous and efficient. I must say I am glad to have gone through this process. Here are just a few things I've noticed: 1. The upstairs of the house is a lot more comfortable. I don't ever remember the 2nd floor bonus room being comfortable in the middle of the day when it's 105 degrees! 2. The cycle times on the air conditioners are a lot shorter - they are running a lot less. 3. The 2nd floor a/c actually cycles during the middle of a hot summer day - it used to just run all day. And, unbeknownst to me, somebody set the upstairs thermostat to 71 (usually keep it at 75) and it was still cycling in the middle of the day! (I honestly didn't think you could seal and insulate a 2nd floor well enough to do that.) 4. The house is a lot quieter overall and more comfortable now. 5. From the HVAC seal, I am getting a lot more air flow to the areas of the house furthest from the a/c. The 2nd floor bonus room used to get very little air flow but it's getting a lot of cold air now. One other thought concerning windows. From a cost/ benefit standpoint, it does not make sense to replace all of your windows. We just caulked the heck out of the existing windows. I've seen some estimates showing the payback on replacing all your windows is about 60 years! Finally, I will definitely be using NPB in the future!
Description of Work: The other two projects that Neighborhood Pro Builders ("NPB") did for me earlier in the summer led to this one. I had actually wanted to try this when NPB had done some work for me back in 2010 but did not have the money. One of the problems with this particular house has always been an exceptionally high utility bill - hot spots all in the house, especially the 2nd floor. I have an MLGW login and have played with an available analysis tool that would always say my house should be the the $270 a month utility bill range and I was typically hitting $500 (yay!). Anyway, NPB's area of expertise is a whole house seal project. It's basically a process where you super insulate your house and seal all the little holes that could be leaking, shutting down the heat exchange between your attic and living area, etc. TVA is currently offering a rebate if you go through this process. Savings on your utility bill could be between 30% to 50%. To find out more about the TVA project, call 866-441-1430 or go to www.energyright.com. I haven't had this done long enough to confirm the savings yet. Here's a breakdown of what NPB did for me: 1. Insulation per TVA audit requirements2. Whole house air seal (caulk the stew out of everything and seal every hole)3. HVAC Duct seal (highly recommend)4. Roof line ridge vents (this should be a standard in Memphis construction and, strangely, is not) These 4 items were $9,375 before the TVA rebate. The remainder spent was for needed repairs discovered during the project. I had my TVA follow up audit on 8/16 and passed without any problem. NPB was present for the follow-up audit.

We live in a hundred-year old house that had very little insulation, no caulking, and was cold in the winter and hot in the summer. NPB spent a great deal of time preparing a very detailed estimate of work they would do to seal the house from outside air and insulate the attic and basement. Their work was incredibly thorough, professional, and detailed. They sent the same work crew on time every day, and these guys knew their stuff. During the course of the work done, they uncovered about 100 years of previous mistakes and jury-rigging that they brought to our attention and addressed, including a second air return that had been installed but the hold never cut for in the floor! The budget doubled during the course of the work, but only because they were unbelievably detailed and thorough. As they uncovered major issues that needed to be addressed, Dave Trentledge would sit down with us, discuss the issue in depth, and go over the detailed change order. The work included blown in insulation in the attic, batt in the basement, foam boards custom cut everywhere they could use it (including above a stained glass window), insulation behind switch plates, and weatherstripping around doors. They had to rip out an old attic floor before the blown in insulation could in put in place--in stages--and replaced it with plywood in a very professional job. They also caulked windows shut and used upwards of 80 tubes of caulk in our home in every crack and crevice they could find--including inside and behind cabinets. Dave Trentledge is incredibly professional and knowledgable, forthright, fair. and responsive. He is also passionate about energy remediation and has taken the time and effort to educate himself in every way possible probably much beyond the demands of his job. He also made some recommendations for further every savings which we may do at a later date. If you are looking for insulation done at the cheapest cost, don't call NPB. If you want complete and total energy remediation in your home, including all the ancillary work that entails--carpentry, trim work, etc. done absolutely right, call them. And our power bills are already much lower.
Some tile guys I had at my house backed into a brick arch that covers a drainage pipe along the side of my driveway. They bumped it up and backwards off its foundation and cracked two of the bricks. The arch was intact, they just moved it from its foundation. I found this company here on Angie's List and since they were the highest rated masonry business listed, I sent them pictures of the damage and requested an estimate to repair or replace the arch. David was very quick to answer my email and give me a bid. He said that the arch could not be set back in place and repaired, but had to be replaced. I was happy that I got such a quick response, right up until I read the bid proposal. The bid seemed to be in Nigerian dollars (160 Nigerian to 1 US dollar). David said that to do this job would require 3 men and cost $3,000. Yes, there is a comma in that bid... Three thousand dollars. Say it again. Three thousand dollars. I've driven many cars that cost less than his bid to build a simple brick arch that consisted of about 130 bricks. The bricks would cost less than $150 and a couple bags of mortar mix is about $20 at Lowes. Twenty eight hundred profit on a small brick job? I responded to his email questioning if he had accidentally added an extra zero to his bid. He described all the variables associated with advertising, insurance, dump fees, etc. Since this was his real bid, we parted company. If you want somebody to respond very quickly to a bid request and couldn't care the slightest little bit about the cost or whether you're getting a good deal, I highly recommend this company. If you would like both service and value, look for my write up in this section for the person who ultimately REPAIRED (yes - repaired) the arch to like new condition for $200. That's right, $200 and he was extremely responsive, professional and happy to have the work. Update: 9MAR13 Well, I'll follow up on their follow up to my initial report. I did in fact ask very specifically if the entire arch could merely be mortared back into position and just replace the few cracked bricks. I've done this work many times in the past, but didn't have time to do this job. They're either suffering from memory loss or honesty loss claiming that I didn't ask for exactly what I ended up having done. Like the mechanic who says you need a new engine when you only need new spark plugs, they were looking for a pay-day and thought they'd hooked a sucker. The advantage of modern technology is I only had to spend two minutes pulling up the email I sent them. You judge for yourself if I didn't ask them if if could simply be repaired and if the repair was "completely different" from my request to them... "Howdy, I had some tile guys back into this arch over the drainage culvert running under my driveway. They popped it off its foundation and only chipped a few bricks on the outside face. It might be possible to move it back into position and simply re-mortar it in place, or it might take a rebuild. I'd like an estimate to repair or replace this if you're interested in the job." So, expensive an full of it. Pick them if you want, but my experience says steer WAY clear.
Description of Work: Requested a bid on a small brick repair job. Bid was 15 times (yes, that's correct - 15 times!) what I ultimately ended up paying.

Response from Neighborhood Pro Builders
The owners of Neighborhood Pro Builders have been in business for nearly 30 years and we have hundreds of satisfied customers. Our goal is to bid jobs accurately and fairly. For this reason, we offer free on-site estimates to verify accuracy of the scope of work before delivering a final proposal to our customers. While we will give “estimates” by phone or email based on the description of work and pictures sent to us, this can never replace a site visit for an actual proposal. When providing prices prior to a site visit, our policy is to give the customer the “worst case” estimate. A close read of the member's letter will reveal that the $200 solution he chose was completely different from the scope of work he requested by email from Neighborhood Pro Builders. Our estimate indicated that prices would be verified after a site visit. Ultimately, the member chose to have someone push the arch back into place rather than do a complete replacement with appropriate anchoring.

Their work has been satisfactory. They gave me a good price on a timely basis, and they did the work on a timely basis. It produced the desired results. They were a little bit higher than others, but their proposals were a lot more detailed. They covered a lot more things that needed to be done compared to other people who didn’t, so I went with them. Their price is fair for the quality of work that they provided. I had a very positive experience with them.

They seem to be knowledgeable and reliable. Overall, I was quite satisfied with the services and wold use them again in the future if needed.
Description of Work: We hired Neighborhood Pro Builders to fix a leak which involved some minor restructural repairs and carpeting.
David returned my call promptly and met with me the next day to look at the work the needed to be done. I approved the work for crawlspace and chimney repair, and the job was completed the next day. The job entailed removing rotten wood in the crawlspace, replacing a 3 foot section of the sill plate with pressure treated wood and adding additional concrete to a pier supporting the joist. His team also repaired concrete on the chimney cap and three steps on the side of the chimeny. The worksite was cleaned up. While he was there he measured the two dormer windows to quote a price the replace the rotten/squirrel chewed wood. He had a quote to me the next morning. Two days later his team was out to replace all of the siding/trim on the two dormers. The team replaced the wood with cement board and a vinyl type trim board, re-caulked the windows and painted (they took a sample of the wood to get matching paint). The job lasted about 1.5 days. The work was done well and the worksite was cleaned up.
Description of Work: Peplaced rotten wood in crawlspace and replaced siding/trim on two dormer windows. Also tuckpointed several areas of the chimney were concrete had broken up and allowed water to leak into the crawlspace.
