Overall, the provider communication about the project was completely inadequate. I got the provider's name from a neighbor. I contacted the provider about a laundry room relocation, including venting the dryer directly through an outside wall. I wanted to make sure venting through the outside wall was feasible before the project started. The provider indicated it was possible. I paid the initial deposit of $1575 for the project January 14th. The check cleared my account on January 17th. I paid the balance of $2500 April 8th, over three months later. And again, the check cleared just a few days later. I was told the project would take about a week. It actually took three weeks, including at least a week of no activity and no updates/no communication. I purchased a new washer and dryer from Home Depot March 10th - after the provider told me to proceed with picking out a new set. I contacted the provider to find out when the space would be ready. I never got an answer, so I chose a delivery date as best I could. I had to reschedule delivery due to the space still not being ready. McCabe construction said not to worry, they would handle the installation. Then I had to wait several days after delivery for the installation to actually happen. Once the installation finally happened, I thought everything was OK. However, I have had issues from the beginning with the dryer not working as well as I thought it should (water dripping out of the front after a cycle, taking a cycle and a half or so for a load to get dry). The provider vented the dryer out the roof, instead of through the outside wall as I had requested. I tried to make do and just try to get used to this. But, a few months after the dryer was installed, I had to have the vent cleaned because the dryer had completely stopped working. (The blocked vent indicator on the dryer was showing 100% blockage.) The provider who cleaned the dryer vent asked me "why wasn't this vented through the outside wall?" I said, "I have no idea. I asked that it be vented out the outside wall". So the dryer vent cleaning team redid the vent for me. Now the dryer does work great, better than it ever has, thanks to the other provider's handiwork. In addition to the vent not being done correctly and the way I asked, McCabe Construction did not finish the crown molding around the closet. They said they couldn't find crown to match the crown in the rest of the room. I said, fine, don't worry about it. Then, they sent me a $400 final invoice and I refused to pay it. I filed a complaint with the BBB and McCabe Construction maintains that they did nothing wrong. They even said that the crown molding was not part of the original project, even though they spent several weeks trying to find replacement crown. The keybox/lockbox that McCabe Construction used during this project is still on my door to this day, October 10th. I will never ever use McCabe Construction again and they will not get one more cent out of me.
