Jeans Painting & Wallcovering

First of all, Derrell was very pleasant and explained what he was doing along the way. He was punctual in the morning and called ahead to tell me he was on the way. He got most of the wallpaper removed and the old glue. So, the work itself was mostly complete. But there were problems in our mind. The work was in a bathroom, and he didn't remove the toilet tank to do the work behind there, so the wallpaper remains on the wall. During the three days of work, the water supply line began dripping, causing puddles on the bathroom floor. While he had plastic bags to discard the wallpaper he removed, the finished job lacked cleanup. The large mirror behind the vanity was not cleaned at all from steaming, primer, Kilz and spackling. The floors and counter top also still had mudding as well as the inside of the sink that required significant scraping with a single-edge razor. Despite our best efforts, we still have not been able to remove some of that, particularly what appears to be Kilz. Finally, the surface of our bathtub was scratched in several places from ladders and equipment. I was surprised that the wall was primed before the spackling was put on. Seemed to be a reverse of the process. I would say the removal of the wallpaper was adequate, except for behind the toilet. As for the cleanup, we were disappointed. I believe that, while the main part of the work was removal of the wallpaper and prepping of the wall, cleaning it up to near where it was before the work is an important part of a complete job.

Derrel was a pleasure to work with. He's a very pleasant individual and very diligent about his work and clean. He takes his time and really focuses on doing quality work and it shows. I had him remove wallpaper and clean up the glue on the walls. He then patched, primed the walls and left them ready for painting. He would arrive on time and he would clean up and leave everything nice and clean in the afternoon before he left for the day. I would not hesitate to hire him again and I plan to.

Mr. Jeans arrived on time and immediately set up the steamer that he uses to remove wallpaper. He also provided the garbage bags that he used to put the wallpaper in. Around lunchtime I tried to get him to take a break, but he insisted on finishing the wall he was working on. He finally took a break around 3:00pm and immediately went back to work once the break was over. After the wallpaper was removed, he brought in a drop cloth and started sandpapering the walls. Once he finished which sandpapering, he primed the walls for painting. He left around 7:30pm and returned the next day to finish priming the walls. Mr. Jeans is a true professional and once I pick out paint color, I will definitely call him.

I began the task of removing wallpaper from a bedroom and quickly gave up in disgust, so I began looking for someone to do the job. There are very few folks in the Memphis yellow pages and I noticed Mr. Jeans had an A+ rating with BBB, so I called him on a Thursday to come and take a look at my situation. He was ready to go to work the next morning, but I had to put it off until Saturday. Our agreement was that he would remove the wallpaper, remaining adhesive, and begin the task of preparing the walls for painting. He was running a bit behind on Saturday morning, but called to let me know. Once here, he went right to work and except for a brief lunch break worked without a break until Saturday night. He came back for a couple of hours on Sunday and finished up the job. He removed every scrap of wallpaper and adhesive, filled nail holes and cracks, re-caulked around the windows, sanded the walls and primed them. I still have some prep work to do, but I expected that and we agreed to that. Actually, I probably could have painted it as it was but have sanded down some of the lumps and bumps and filled in some little dents, etc. in the old plaster walls. Anyway, Mr. Jeans is a pleasure to talk to and work with and I thought his rates reasonable. He has another job that can take him out of town on short notice, and he's very upfront about that, but if you are flexible in your scheduling I'm sure he will be able to do the job and do it well.
