They have now completed the project and their execution of the plan showed professionalism and competence. They were easy to work with, worked hard, creative, punctual, easy to reach and came when asked. Most importantly they produced a great final result on time and without the costly add-on's that so many contractors try to work into the job. I judge them as honest, hardworking and professional.
Description of Work: Planned new landscaping for our residence, removed existing vegetation, pruned and shaped existing plants, planted new plants, mulched, and created a stone "driveway" for an outbuilding.

 + 0 moreOur front yard, which faces north and is shaded by big trees and our three story house, was a poor spot for grass to grow. We interviewed three landscape companies looking for solutions. Germantown Landscape's owner, John Nespoli, who is a landscape architect, had the best ideas and spent time with us detailing the plans and describing how it would look. It was a total redo in the difficult front yard. They just finished and it looks fantastic!
Description of Work: Landscaped the front yard and did extensive work in the side and back yards.

 + -1 moreRetainer wall of railroad ties was less than 4 ft away from my house. They ripped out the old wall, put in a new wall and their work was perfect. This work was very close to windows in my home and nothing was damaged. I also live on the side of a hill. The pulled up my sod, added egg size gravel, dirt and rap laced the sod. Again, perfect work. I highly recommend Germantown Landscape.

Honesty is something that is not seen very often in this day and age. When the time comes to do something with my yard, John will be the first person I call!

 + 0 moreAll went well, even though I was told there would be a 6-week delay before the work could be done. However, because of many rainy days, it turned out to be a longer wait ... more than 11 weeks! The 2-day job began on a Friday and was finished on Monday. The crew of 2 men was very professional and worked very hard to get the job done right. This company is sort of pricey, but the work is superb.
Description of Work: After heavy rain, water always collects in my yard. John Nespoli, the owner, recommended digging a trench in my yard to drain the water. Sod was laid in the trench and also a section of my yard that was bare for years was sodded as well.

 + -1 moreThe job went well. I was informed up front they only handle job greater than $950. The appointment went well. I liked his design ideas and the work was completed as planned. Cost a little expensive but job was good, and by completing in the winter the relocated plants had a better chance to survive.
Description of Work: Completely removed all old bushes and plants. Relocated most usable bushes, added many flowering bushes. Added a nice stone design at front door. Added edging and filled with rocks as requested. Most plants relocated lives, only one actually did not make it so far.

 + 1 moreAll of the mulch washed away despite them telling us that it was the type that didn't wash away. The retaining wall stayed in place, and the new plants are fine. We called our contact out, and he deferred it - he said it was our gutters that was washing it away. Customer service could be improved.
Description of Work: They removed some plantings in our planter that we didn't want anymore and that were overgrown. They also laid down some mulch chips and built a retaining wall.

He also referred me to the people I eventually used to repair my deck because he thought they would be less expensive than Germantown Landscape Co.

 + 0 moreIt went wonderfully well! When John first came out to discuss the project he understood exactly what I had in mind and didn't try to talk me into anything I didn't want or like. We were and quot;on the same pageand quot; from the beginning.He brought samples of gravel which I wanted for mulch so I could choose which I liked best. His crew removed all the old shrubbery very efficiently and without making a mess. When they came back they did careful preparation of the site with dirt and landscape fabric. Then they set out the new plants and John and I looked at them from all angles and rearranged them until everything was exactly right. He was especially careful that the shrubs were planted with their best sides toward the street. He was very attentive to every little detail. When his crew offered suggestions he listened to them and accepted the suggestions more often than not. They all worked very well together. When the project was finished and the crew left, they had cleaned everything up so well that you could not tell that any work had been done just a few minutes before. The final result was just exactly what I had in mind from the beginning and it looks fabulous!

Description of Work: Called John about tearing out existing flower beds in front of house, designing new ones, and installing. He came by the house and spent about an hour and a half discussing various options. He seemed to be EXTREMELY knowledgeable in his field. After making his recommendations for what would look nice now as well as how it would look years later I accepted his quote and authorized him to proceed. He said it would be 3 to 4 weeks before he get acquire all the plants and free up a crew to do the work. 2 1/2 weeks later his crew showed up, spent 2 days doing the work, cleaned up all their mess, and the flower beds looked incredible. His $2300 worth of work added at least $5000 to the value of my house. Awesome job.

 + 0 moreIt took only 2days to do the work. They worked quickly and efficiently to extract everything and then to replant the trees and shrubs. John would ask what I thought about certain things and then I would say, what about this or that and we just got along greatly. my backyard looks so nice and the trees will change as will the shrubs but it will still be pretty. He really knows his business.
Description of Work: John and his workers came and took everything out of the bed I wanted redone.on the 10th. On the next day they brought trees shrubs and used some of the things they removed. I am so happy with how it looks

 + -1 moreJohn (the owner) came out to give me an estimate on what I thought I needed. He drove quite a way to get to my house. He informed me that I didn't NEED ANY of the services I was sure I did. He told me EXACTLY what I could do to alleviate my problems. He said I could do it myself for less than $35.00. This guy COULD have taken me for a ride because I was "SURE" of what I needed. I am VERY satisfied with the solutions he suggested and appreciate him taking the time to come al the way out to my house.I WILL be using them in the future., and recommend them to anyone. I totally believe that if he is trustworthy in these small matters that he can be trusted in the bigger ones.

 + 2 moreI will be using them again in the spring to do the additional projects in the yard or sooner if I can come into a windfall to get his cold weather discounts.
Description of Work: John and his team completely removed all flower beds, bushes and rebuilt them. In addition they built new stone borders around the beds in the front yard. they removed sod, graded the yard for water to properly drain and put down new sod. Replaced all new bushes and plants and cleaned up. I talked to several companies the past spring on redoing my yard and over half never showed up to meet. The others that did come by were slow to get back with a price or never came back. I talked with John on the phone and told him I was already in the process of installing a sprinkler system he asked me to wait for him to come out to meet until they finished. I am glad that I listen to him and waited since I had no idea what the installation of the systems would do to the yard. John then met with us and laid out new flower beds and plants and we agreed in July. He was honest in telling us he was doing several jobs and he could not start till October and if that was ok with us he would give us his cold weather discount. Johns company showed up on the day they said they would and completed in the less time then he stated it would take them. They were professional, polite, and cleaned up behind them selves each day before leaving. When they completed the grass sod as quoted John had some additional sod left over and replaced some areas that were not quoted to make it all tie together. Any other company would have taken the remaining sod to use on another job. John was more concerned with how his work looked to us then him making additional profit. I am glad I used to Angie's List to find this excellent contractor.

 + -1 moreI called Mr. Nespoli for estimates on several lawn and landscaping needs at my deceased parents' home. We plan to put the house on the market and wanted guidance on what should be done now vs. in spring or not at all. Mr. Nespoli arrived promptly and spent over 30 minutes discussing the projects and giving sound advice, including referrals to companies for stump grinding and leaf removal. He was honest and forthcoming. He did not provide an estimate because he felt we did not require the services of Germantown Landscaping at this stage. We would certainly consider GL for future projects. Mr. Nespoli offered that GL's primary business was in installation of plantings (including landscape design) and typically a minimum job would be $800, with average size job $3900.
