What can I tell you? I called him; he came out, examined the damage, and gave an estimate. He offered to come back yesterday, but we told him to come back, 'At his convenience." Naturally, he returned a couple of hours later, started work and was done in less than 2 hours. His work was, as usual, perfect. We hired Kee's when "Hurricane Elvis" did so much damage. Every roofing contractor said "We are too busy, Why don't you call Kee's? They do good work, and could probably get to you sooner. This was an understatement. Mr. Kee came out, gave an estimate, which I approved, and performed the work perfectly. If you need an honest, skilled and prompt roofer for your house, garage. dog-house or out-house; save time and just call Kee's. Tell them I recommended them. Call me if you want a more detailed description of the work done.
Description of Work: We had a leaky window, and it seemed to come from a clogged gutter. Upon inspection, there was a hole in the roof. Having used Kee's Roofing within the past coupling of years and the quality of their work, I never considered calling anyone else. The work involved meant removing damaged shingles, cutting away roofing wood exposed to weather, replacing wood, roofing felt, and "weaving" new shingles to make an invisible repair over 2 ( TWO !!! ) peak/valley areas.

Travis and his crew were very professional. Travis was on site most of the time, ensuring the workmanship & product installation went well. His crew were so efficient & professional. They operated like a 'well oiled machine' to say the least. Constant work on the ground with cleanup & moving materials to their destinations. Unlike other crews I have observed, there was no loud music, yelling, or cursing happening. We are in the process of upgrading the appearance of our home & the roof was the first item on the list. It looks so GOOD! Over the past year we have experienced some real 'gulley washer' rains & the roof is the one area that I had no concerns about. Absolutely fabulous job. Travis, if you read this, my family thanks you & your crew so much for the excellent professionalism. If everyone performed this quality of repairs, people would not complain about cost. Thanks for 'giving me more than I paid for'. Finding that rare. Also thanks for not running me off, I learned a lot about the new roofing products and proper installations of the same.
Description of Work: Removed old roof (2 layers), replaced bad decking, installed water proofing membrane around all openings & valley areas, installed under roof barrier and 30 year TAMKO premium roofing,& installed ridge venting in upper ridges. Hauled old materials from site & cleaned nails, old materials, etc. from flower beds, bushes and lawn.

Wes, came out promptly to give me an estimate and then they started the work promptly. Wes was very specific and gave me a line by line estimate. They did exactly what they said they were going to do for exactly what they estimated. I did have to call them back twice because of a problem but they responded promptly and it turned out positive. It was a hard job but I was satisfied. Also, their clean-up was excellent. I'd recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Our home is 105 years old, 2,600sq/ft with two stories. They completed pulled the roof down to the decking. They replaced some decking and also installed some kind of ventilation system around 3 sides of the house. They then put an electric exhaust fan in the attic.

I was hesitant to hire Excellent Roofing to replace our roof because of one extremely bad report on Angie’s List, created about a year ago. However, we are so pleased with the company! The reason that we wanted to hire this company is because we watched them put new roofs on 2 houses across the street this year and they did a terrific job. A neighbor confirmed how pleased she was with their work. We found their website very informative, the personnel helpful and professional and when we researched what we were paying for, the materials were quality products. We got an Angie's List discount plus one other discount from the roofing manufacturer ($300) since my husband was in the military. The crew began working, both days, around 6:30 AM. They took a 2 to 3-hour break in the middle of the day, each day – and I don’t blame them! The extreme heat here this summer has been dangerous. They then worked hard again until dusk. Although replacing a roof is a messy job, the crew continually cleaned up along the way; the outside looked immaculate when they drove away. We also bought, from the company, a couple of solar fans that they installed in our attic which will impact our utility use/bills, as well as provide us with a tax credit. Using Excellent Roofing was a very good experience.

Provide a firm start and finish date.
Description of Work: Replaced approxiimately 105 ft. of gutter, four down spouts. Some of the new gutter was tied into exisiting gutter. Work was excellent, pricing was very competive, color match excellent. Prompt in coming out giving an estimate, professional, upfront and honest. There were several other jobs in front of ours and intermittment delays due to rain, it took approximately three (3) weeks to get the job done. Could have been better with communicating delays rather than me calling them to find out when, what , where ?I will use them again but will request a definite start date and finish date. Thanks

gly advised me to purchase 3 expensive solar powered fans to cool my attic to improve the longevity of the new roof and lower utility bills. This is true, but the fan cost was well over average, and the other roofers all recommended roof venting and possibly one fan. I had asked for an actual roofer to meet with my insurance adjustor, but he mixed the date on the calendar and sent the sales representative.
Description of Work: I bought a coupon for roof inspection for $75 dollars from Angies list after I found tow shingles on my lawn. The fee was to apply to repairs. the roof inspection was conducted promptly by a serviceman who was actually a supervisor, without direct roofing experience. He overstated the amount of wind and hail damage to my roof, and recommended contacting my insurance company. This was correct as there was some damage, but less than he indicated. The report was a checklist only, and i had to ask several times for photos of my roof. The serviceman also stron

Response from Excellent Roofing LLC
All of Excellent Roofing's servicemen and project managers have direct roofing experience and are HAAG Engineering Certified Roof Inspectors. Excellent Roofing advised the member install high quality solar fans that are made in the USA (atticbreeze.net), not the cheap knock-offs at Home Depot and Costco you can get for under $300 and only have a 10 watt solar panel. This house has a perfect south and south west orientation that is ideal for solar ventilation. Other roofers only recommended what they know, which is typically ridge vents and power fans. Ridge vents are not very effective with a house of this type due the extreme distance between the ridge and eaves. Forced air ventilation is much more effective. The reason we recommend solar fans over power fans is that there is also the cost of the electrician associated with installing power to run the power fans, monthly electricity costs associated with running the fans, a low 2 year warranty on the electrical motors, and power fans make noise, which most of our customers do not like. Solar Fans are whisper quiet, use no electricity, and qualify for a 30% Federal Tax Credit under IRS Form 5695 Part II under Solar Electric Property which Congress has extended the credit through 2016. Between the 30% Federal Tax Credit and Energy Savings all our customers have shared these solar fans pay for themselves within two years. It's unfortunate this member was not willing to make a small investment in a $400K+ home that would paid for itself over, over, and over again, by extending the life of the roof system, lower utility costs (in summer due to heat and winter months due to humidity in the attic), and improving the overall comfort level of the home. Please check out the promotions section on our website. We offer a free Attic Breeze AB-252A Solar Fan with each new installed roof.

Overall, this was a very well executed project. It took three weeks. To deal with the attic ventilation, especially over the garage, the old roof was removed including the decking. The insulation was blocking air movement. Baffles were installed to allow air movement from the soffits to the attic. New reflective OSB decking was installed over the garage to reflect heat. Decra was installed. 9 months later in the hottest summer in recent memory, the living area is livable. It no longer is an oven and the air conditioning is able to cool the room. The main roofing area was roofed with the Decra. Fantastic appearance. The trim pieces look wonderful. The roof over the rear of the house was roofed with standing seam steel. This was the only area with some issues. To expedite completion of our roof, Excellent hired a sub contractor. The sub contractor did not have the same attention to detail that Excellent had. Over the three months after completion of the roof, Excellent Roofing corrected the issues with the subcontractor's work. There was no problem getting these issues resolved and corrected. Excellent Roofing completely fulfilled all warranty expectations. There was one challenge that I was very pleased with Excellent's solution. The transitions between the Standing Seam and the Decra Roof were at the apex of the roof. The Decra trim piece needed to be riveted to the standing seam steel to allow a proper connection. Very ingenious. I am very pleased with the outcome. It is noticeably cooler in the house. We now have a roof with an expected lifetime of 50 to 100 years. It looks great. The Solar Panels have been installed an no screws were needed to penetrate the roof so there is no chance of a leak (the solar panels bolt to the standing seem roof) I am a very please customer.
Description of Work: We had a very complicated roofing project that other roofing companies did not want to attempt. One other roofing company bid on the project and I thought very highly of them. The owner of Excellent Roofing personally got involved with our project planning due to it's complexity. There were three components to our project. The attic area above our garage was finished into a living area by the original builder. It was incorrectly insulated and inadequately air conditioned. Most of our attic areas were inadequately ventilated. The main areas of the house needed a new roof. A complication was that we were in the planning stages to install a rooftop solar power array. We wanted a roofing system that was attractive to the street and would allow the installation of the solar panels without penetrations of the roof. This required a standing seam steel roof where the panels were to be installed. We also wanted a tile roof appearance otherwise. We choose a Decra Metal Shingle roof for the areas visible to the street. The Decra was a very efficient roofing choice as it creates a small air gap between the shingles and the roofing underlayment. The steel also reflects heat.

I looked into Angie's list for recommendations. I found several good sounding roofing companies. I was impressed by Mr Kee. I put in a request for an estimate thru Angie's list and I received a call with in minutes of sending an email. They were at my house that after noon to give an estimate. I looked into other companies, but they called me back days or a week later. I felt that my concerns with my house were important to the Kee company and they showed me great customer service. One of the sections on the siding was raising up, Mr Kee was there the next day to fix it. Great Customer Service!!!
Description of Work: They came out and replaced some wind damaged shingles and vinyl siding removed and installed correctly.

UPDATE!!!!!! After I posted the review below, the Project Manager David called me and apologized for the problems getting my roof fixed. He said that there was miscommunication between him and his production manager. He told me that he would do the $243 job at no cost because of the problems I have had. He had a crew out to my house within 15 minutes. So... I would like to update my review to be a grade of "B". I have not spoken with the Project Manager since the crew did the work. They spent about an hour fixing my roof and as far as I can tell, everything looks good. They were professional. Just wish we had gotten this handled 2 months ago. I would give them another shot if I needed more roof work done. I signed up for the Angie's List Deal of the Day where I pay $75 for an estimate which would be applied to any work they did. The guy (David) came out, gave me an estimate of $243. He told me that someone would call the next day to set up an appointment. Nobody ever called. So the following week I called them and asked if I could get an appointment set up. Someone named Michelle said she would have to find the project manager who came out and gave me the estimate and have him call me back. I never got a call. So I called back the following week - the same thing happened. I have since called back 4 other times with the EXACT same response and the EXACT same result! They got my $75 but I have nothing but a piece of paper that says the work I need done will cost $243. I'm sure my project is small compared to others who may have thousands of dollars of work. Nevertheless... if it rains, I still will have a big problem with my roof. Now I have to pay someone else to come out and give an estimate and hope they actually do the work. Bottom Line... if you see a "deal" for this company - RUN AWAY QUICKLY. While I wouldn't say that they are necessarily a scam - they get the worst rating I can give!!!!

Called him and asked for an estimate and He emailled me the contract with itemized cost. We talked about the differences between hardie board and vinyl siding. He convinced me that hardie siding was the best choice. The crew was there on time and finished when He said they would. They also made sure nails were removed from driveway and picked up trash.
Description of Work: Travis went the extra amount needed to do the job right. We had a little more damaged siding that was not in the scope of the job but He went ahead and fixed it without an increase in price and without having to ask.

Great response from the estimate through the job. Richard Mabry was the project manager and he made every effort to schedule the job to meet our special needs because of illness. Crews were pleasant and worked hard and we clearly experienced roofers. They did a real professional job. The only complaint was that we ended up with some old roofing material inside the house once they removed the skylights to reseal. They did however work until after 9:00 pm on a couple of nights-- in part because it was so hot in the middle of the day. I would certainly use Excellent again. Price was not the least but entirely reasonable.
Description of Work: Complete re-roof including tear off of old roof. Repair of a small amount of roof decking. New and larger gutters and new down spout on one side of the house. Complex roof with multiple valleys.

I was extremely disappointed by work done by Excellent Roofing on my home. The agreed-upon roof tapering plan was not followed , water continues to pool on my roof, the tapering is still visible from ground level and gutters are angled incorrectly. Most importantly now (as I pointed out in detail above), I find that the blindingly white and highly reflective membrane installed on my first story roof is extremely problematic, preventing any comfortable views out of the north bedroom windows on sunny days. The north wall, which is medium gray, appears white on sunny days. When I paid Mr. Bennett on May 11, 2012, I enclosed with my payment, a note stating that I was glad that we were able to work everything out. While I was very disappointed at the work in general, I was actually glad we came to terms on a discount for continuing ponding and improper gutter angling and was glad to see them go. I made that comment (in the handwritten note) WELL BEFORE I realized there was a reflectivity problem with the $6,000 first story roof. It is also important to note that the assurance made to me by Johnny Walker, the supervisor, in stating that the white first story roof would cause no problems was clearly deceptive. Since his statement induced me to make payment for the first story roof and since I believe he knew his statement was not truthful, I believe his actions can be considered fraudulent. Mr. Bennett has responded to my review with his comments in the Company Response section below and I am quite shocked by the tone and content of his response and how much misinformation it contains. I consider many of his statements defamatory. I went to great trouble to make sure each and every statement I have made is truthful and I am disappointed that apparently Mr. Bennett did not care to do the same. In regard to Mr. Bennett?s response, it appears that if his quotes from my emails and his parroting of what I said in the emails are not considered (as they are true as quoted and mostly true as parroted) and his unacceptable settlement offers are not considered, over 50% of the remaining comments in the document are NOT TRUE. I personally find that appalling, unconscionable and repugnant. In the first paragraph alone, of the nine sentences there, seven are NOT TRUE. In at least five of the sentences, Mr. Bennett says I was aware of the roof color and/or made no comment about it. While I consider taking five sentences to say the same thing overkill, all five statements are NOT TRUE. When I occasionally watched the installation of the first story roof, since I am not a roofer, I did not know whether the white covering (being put on that roof) was a type of underlayment or was the top coating. When I inspected the roof on May 11, 2012, I did at that time realize that the white coating was the final membrane being applied. Upon noticing the white membrane, I asked Johnny Walker if it would pose any problems. He clearly stated that it would cause no problems. I later learned, when I returned home from vacation, that the blindingly white, highly reflective membrane was very problematic for those trying to look out of the bedroom windows to the north on sunny days. I then realized Mr. Walker had been deceptive in his comment and, as stated above, I consider his statement fraudulent. Mr. Bennett states that the roof system Excellent Roofing installed is performing as expected with regards to water shedding. This is NOT TRUE. My roof still has water pooling on it as Mr. Bennett chose not to follow the agreed-upon tapering plan. Mr. Bennett also stated he ran water over the roof membrane to show me the roof membrane and gutters were operating as they should. This is NOT TRUE. What they showed was that the roof membrane and gutters were NOT operating as they should. Mr. Bennett even gave me a discount because they were NOT operating as they should, admitting that pooling still existed on the roof and gutters were angled incorrectly or not at all. I did send Mr. Bennett an email on Friday, May 25, 2012, in which I put forth several options (of which painting was one and also replacement was one) to resolve the reflectivity problem of the blindingly white membrane. After Mr. Bennett did not respond to six of my emails, and having more time to consider these options, I removed painting as a viable solution for reasons discussed below. Mr. Bennett would have you believe that, during this time, he was injured and no one was running his business and no one, other than he, could make any decisions. I find that hard to believe, because if he was so integral to the daily operations, his business would have to close down when he was sick, went on vacations or attended seminars. Mr. Bennett also states that nearly everything listed in my report has been done to publicly defame his company. This is NOT TRUE. Defamation requires the making of a false statement and all of the statements I have made are true. Mr. Bennett went on to state that I used profanity and this is NOT TRUE. That is just not my nature. Especially troubling are the untruthful statements Mr. Bennett made in his paragraph dealing with racial issues. He states that I made many ?racially charged? comments, which I never made. He states at the end of the same paragraph that all of his staff carry smart phones and have audio and video recording capabilities, so he doubts I will deny any of the comments he said I made to him or his staff. LET ME BE VERY CLEAR HERE. I hereby DENY making any racially charged comments to Mr. Bennett or his staff. I AM SO SURE THAT I MADE NO SUCH COMMENTS THAT I CHALLENGE MR. BENNETT TO PRODUCE ANY RECORDINGS HE MAY HAVE SO THAT ANGIE?S LIST CAN AUTHENTICATE THEM. AFTER ALL, IF I MADE SO MANY, HE IS BOUND TO HAVE AT LEAST ONE. I know that he cannot furnish even one as I did not make any such comments. I consider Mr. Bennett's comments extremely defamatory, resulting in multiple acts of defamation by him. While I am now retired, I spent many years in racially diverse corporate environments and I embraced that diversity and thought it was very positive for the companies for which I worked. I certainly would not have attained the levels I did, had there been any racial bias in anything I said or did. I know that my coworkers and superiors appreciated my approach to diversity and they know I am incapable of making any of the racially biased comments Mr. Bennett attributes to me. I also know that my family and friends feel the same way. I stand strongly behind this reputation and, as I stated above, consider very many of the comments made about me by Mr. Bennett multiple acts of defamation. I have obtained opinions from a highly qualified architect and a well-respected interior decorator regarding the roof?s extreme reflectivity. Both confirmed the blinding reflection as well as the change in the color of the north outside wall due to the extreme reflectivity. Both concluded that Mr. Bennett chose the wrong color membrane for a roof overlooked by bedroom windows. The architect even stated that the highly reflective membrane used by Excellent Roofing makes the northward facing bedrooms in my home unpleasant if not nearly impossible to occupy during sunny days. Mr. Bennett?s proposal below in the Company Response section was virtually WORTHLESS from the outset for three reasons: 1. Painting is not an option as even Br. Bennett points out that he can only partially paint the membrane due to certain manufacturer?s restrictions on painting. In addition painting is a second class fix when I paid for a first class job. Additionally repainting would have to be done in the years to come and I would have to pay for that. And finally, I did not pay a premium price to have a membrane installed and then painted. I paid to have the appropriate membrane installed in the first place. 2. Mr. Bennett offered to replace the blindly white membrane with a ?dark grey? one. When he put a sample of the proposed membrane on the roof, it was actually light gray. Even Mr. Bennett quickly admitted that his proposed ?dark grey? membrane would NOT SOLVE the reflectivity problem. 3. Mr. Bennett also asked me to sign a full and final release, which he apparently had drawn himself. It required me to approve both the work and quality of it PRIOR TO THE WORK ACTUALLY BEING DONE. Of course I cannot approve the quality of the work before it is even performed. So Mr. Bennett?s offer below, in my opinion, is unacceptable by any reasonable person?s standards. Mr. Bennett has failed to mention that he made another offer to me after he realized his offer below was WORTHLESS. Recognizing that he installed the inappropriate membrane initially, Mr. Bennett has now offered to pay me $3,000 so I can have another roofer install a considerably cheaper roof with a warranty of less than half of the 15 year warranty on the expensive membrane installed by Excellent Roofing. It is patently unfair for me to pay $6,000 to Excellent Roofing for a high quality roof and end up with a $3,000 roof of much lesser quality. This solution is unfair by any reasonable person?s standards and I believe Mr. Bennett is embarrassed to even reveal that he made such an offer. He owes me a $6,000 refund for his mistake. In closing, I should also say that Mr. Bennett refused to mediate my case with the Tennessee Division of Consumer Affairs. Also the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors has notified me that he has been fined by them based on his actions. I have also just learned that the inspector for the State of Tennessee has determined that my 15 year roof warranty has been voided as Mr. Bennett, against the manufacturer?s recommendation, chose to paint the roof membrane edging during the initial installation.
Description of Work: Everything stated below in this review is my personal recollection of the facts and my personal opinion and is, to the best of my knowledge, absolutely truthful. On July 5, 2011, I received a Proposal from Excellent Roofing (also referred to as “the Contractor” and/or “John Bennett”) to perform roofing and gutter work on my home. I asked Mr. Bennett to go over the Proposal with me as I desired to limit the scope of work he desired to do. After almost 4 months, he called to discuss the scope. Finally on October 28, 2011, I received a revised Proposal from Mr. Bennett which I executed on October 29, 2011. The work detailed in the final Proposal consisted of installing a tapering system on my second story flat roof and then applying a PVC membrane over it. In addition, all of the gutters on the second story and those on the first story (south side of my home) were to be replaced. A roof edge flashing was also to be replaced. In addition to the work in the final Proposal, I agreed to have the Contractor reroof a slightly angled roof on the first story of my home and remove some metal work from a skylight on the second floor. The cost in the original Proposal was $19,075. The lower roof and skylight work were $6,000 and $250 respectively, bringing the total final price to $25,325. Mr. Bennett took measurements of my roof at least four times (July 2011, Oct. 2011, Feb. 2012, and April 2012). After each of the last three times, he said he would begin work shortly. He FINALLY showed up to perform the work on April 30, 2012, (approximately 10 months after originally contacting me to do the work). Several weeks prior to starting the work, I told Mr. Bennett that I wanted to see his tapering plan prior to beginning work. He called me when he was out of town at a “solar” seminar and told me he had the plan with him. I asked him to fax it to me and he said he would do so. When I did not receive the fax, I called his secretary, Michelle, two times and told her both times that I had not received the fax. She said she would contact him about it. He never did fax the supposed plan he said he had. I came to learn that he only had roof measurements and had no plan at that point. When Mr. Bennett returned to town, he called one afternoon and told me he was going to a local supply company to develop the tapering plan on their computer. He said he would have it that afternoon, so I asked him to fax it to me late that day. He said he would but I never received a fax from him. To my astonishment, on the day work was to begin (4/30/12), Mr. Bennett showed up at my home and had no tapering plan available for me to approve. Fortunately I had, myself, drawn a rough plan of how I thought the tapering should work. I was fortunate to have at my home that morning, another local well-respected contractor who was discussing another project with me. This contractor, Mr. Bennett and I fully discussed my plan and we all agreed that, since my plan was the best and only option, it would be the plan which Excellent Roofing would execute. Mr. Bennett fully agreed and I copied the plan so he could show it to his workmen. So Mr. Bennett agreed that (a) all angles in the tapering system would be done according to the plan so NO POOLING would occur after completion, (b) the roofline would be tapered so that NO TAPERING MATERIAL WOULD BE VISIBLE FROM GROUND LEVEL and (c) the gutters would be angled appropriately to either existing or new downspouts so they would HOLD NO WATER. Because I was so concerned that the tapering plan was done correctly, Mr. Bennett agreed that the roof tapering angles would be fully laid out AND NOT NAILED DOWN and that he would take pictures to allow me to approve the layout BEFORE IT WAS NAILED DOWN. Mr. Bennett told me (shortly after arriving on the site the first day) that he had to leave to get his wife’s car inspected and that he would be back shortly. Unfortunately he did not return until late that afternoon. I am disappointed that he mislead me into believing he would actually be overseeing (at a minimum) the design of my roof tapering system. His workmen actually began nailing the system over the existing roof mid-morning. When I heard nailing occurring, I called him on his cell phone to voice my concern that I had never seen any of the pictures he promised to take prior to the roof tapering being attached. His excuse for the workmen beginning without my approval of the layout was that they were only nailing all of the outside edges down as we agreed so none of the roof would be visible from ground level. I found out late in the week of April 30, 2012, that Mr. Bennett’s workmen had not followed the agreed-upon tapering plan but had devised one of their own. Upon my initial inspection of the roof on the afternoon of May 3, 2012, I found that there were actually many places where, when viewed from ground level, the tapering system was clearly visible. I pointed this out to Mr. Bennett and told him I was so concerned about the work that I was going to have an inspection performed. I engaged the services of an award winning roofer and he found that (a) the agreed-upon tapering plan had not been followed, (b) there were still flat areas in the roof, (c) the roof actually pitched backward, away from the gutters on the front part of my house, (d) many gutters were angled in the wrong direction or not at all, (e) there were voids (open air spaces) under the membrane where the angling material had not been properly connected and (f) the membrane was clearly visible from ground level at several points around my home. Mr. Bennett’s men returned on May 8, 2012, and worked for several more days trying to correct the deficiencies. They finally finished and cleaned up on May 10, 2012. When I inspected the roof on May 11, 2012, I was astonished to find that the agreed-upon tapering plan had still not been followed, water continued to pool on the roof, the tapering was still clearly visible at ground level from at least one area in my yard and several gutters were still angled incorrectly or not angled at all. I discussed these deficiencies with Mr. Bennett and he agreed to give me a discount of approximately $2,500, basically noting on my invoice that ponding still existed on my roof and some gutters were not angled correctly. Prior to making payment, I noticed a white membrane had also been used on my first story roof and I asked Johnny Walker, one of Excellent Roofing’s supervisors, if that would pose any problems. Mr. Walker clearly stated that it would cause no problems. I also pointed out air pockets in the first story roof and Mr. Walker assured me they were normal and would cause no problems in the future. Based upon the discount I was receiving for the deficiencies I knew about at the time and relying on Mr. Walker’s statements, I paid Mr. Bennett generously and promptly. I left home shortly thereafter on vacation. Upon returning from vacation, I noticed that the highly reflective, bright white membrane installed on my first story roof by Excellent Roofing is so blindingly white, that on sunny days, individuals looking out of the two bedrooms overlooking this roof are blinded by the extremely bright white light reflected off this roof. No comfortable views to the wooded area north of my home are possible on sunny days. All of the shutters must remain closed. Also, the reflection is so bright and strong on sunny days that it changes the color of the wall next to it from its medium gray color to almost white, making that wall appear as if it has only been primed with white primer. The first story roof initially had a black membrane which had cracks in it so Mr. Bennett agreed to replace it. But instead of replacing it with another black membrane, he chose, on his own, without consulting me and without telling me the negatives associated with such a blindingly white roof, to install a bright white, highly reflective membrane. The following actions also occurred during construction and were very disappointing: (a) the trashing of my wife’s bathroom by the workmen allowing roof debris to fall through an open skylight, (b) the workmen leaving nails in my driveway almost everyday, (c) Excellent Roofing’s supervisor not showing up for a pre-arranged meeting on May 2, 2012, (d) my constantly having to remind the workmen to close the gates to the backyard so my dog would not get out, (e) the inability of the workmen to correctly prime siding (including all sides and the ends) prior to installation, (f) the setting of an unsightly and smelly portable toilet on my parking pad when I had told Mr. Bennett early on that his men could use the bathroom in my pool house, (g) my having to come up with an alternative solution when his gutter man, Eleazar, wanted to install a downspout which would pour a considerable amount of water onto by brick patio just outside my den door, hindering ingress and egress and likely eventually causing mold and mildew problems, (i) the workers sleeping on my driveway and parking pad, (j) Mr. Bennett’s asking if I was going to pay him prior to the work being completed and getting so upset when I told him no, that I called my guard service to the site in an abundance of caution, (k) Mr. Bennett’s not furnishing a certificate of insurance prior to the work beginning as required in the proposal (l) the workmen working until 8 pm for the first two nights, interrupting my family during the dinner hour, (m) Mr. Bennett’s promising that the work would be completed in 2-3 days and it was clearly not and (n) Mr. Bennett's disturbing behaviors (in my opinion) including that of an argumentative bully at times. While the quality of the work is certainly substandard, all of these other occurrences made the project much worse.

Response from Excellent Roofing LLC
The member was fully aware of the roof system Excellent Roofing was installing on his roof and the color of the roof membrane he purchased before starting his roofing project and throughout the installation of the roof system. It is clear from the member's correspondence that he maintained a close watch over the roofing project and was well of the color of the roof membrane prior to the project’s completion. Not once in 9 (nine) days, under the member's watchful care over the roofing project did the member ever make a comment or express concern over the color of the roof membrane. The member also claims that my crew installed the wrong color without my knowledge. I state declaratively, that I do have the recorded conversation of my placement of the order of the custom membrane with Duro-Last for the member's residence. The member was well aware that he purchased, and we were installing a white, energy efficient roof membrane. During the days we were installing the roof system the member never once complained or mentioned he was uncomfortable with the color of the roof, which he admits he watched being installed over the course of 9 (nine) days. This is a simple case of buyer’s remorse. The roof system Excellent Roofing installed is a high quality roof system that is fully functional and performing as expected with regards to water shedding and energy efficiency. Excellent Roofing performed a final roof inspection on May 11, 2012, with 5 (five) of its staff members, including John Bennett, owner; Johnny Walker, production manager and structural engineer; Eleazar Castaneda, gutter installer, and Jose Cardona, crew leader and lead roofing installer for the member's project. Excellent Roofing spent nearly 2 hours with the member on both levels of his newly installed roof systems doing a final inspection of the roof and gutters. At Excellent Roofing’s insistence, we brought a hose to the roof and ran water over the roof membrane and through the gutters extensively to show the member the roof membrane and gutters were completely functional and operating as they should. Photographs and video were taken by Excellent Roofing before the project started, during the project installation, and at this time of final inspection with the member to document the roof system and gutter functionality. Nevertheless, at the member’s request, Excellent Roofing consented to giving the member a 10% discount off the entire roof and gutter work for his concern about minor taper ponding and gutter pitch concern. That same day, the member hand wrote a note saying, “John, I am glad we were able to work everything out and I hope that the roof and gutters perform as you promised and that we hopefully will not have to have any work performed under the warranty. Thanks, the member.” Two weeks later, on Friday, May 25, 2012, at 4:14 pm on Memorial Day Weekend, the member sent me an email asking 1) Can the membrane be painted with a special type of paint to darken it? 2) Can any type of coating be placed on it to darken it, such as a tar or asphalt product? 3) Can any type of darker membrane be placed on top of it and taken just up to the wall and the garage roof shingles, with just a tiny amount of white showing? This would darken the roof and we would still have full flashing protection from the original membrane. It appears you have placed a medium gray membrane at the chimney corners on that roof and those membranes look like they will last a long time. Could a darker membrane of this same material be used all over this roof? 4) Is there anything you can suggest that will darken it. Excellent Roofing returned to the office following Memorial Day weekend on Tuesday morning, May 29, 2012, and received the member’s email. That same morning, I, John Bennett, the owner, fell off a roof in Collierville, severely injuring my left leg, crushing my heel in several places. I was in hospital and doctor care over the next two days. The member was informed of the tragic injury, and continued to demand I answer him while I was in severe pain and on bed rest at home, emailing me again on June 1, June 3, and on June 4 demanding we replace the membrane or refund him $6000 or he was going to file complaints with, but not limited to the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors, Tennessee Division of Consumer Affairs, Better Business Bureau of the Mid-South, Federal Trade Commission, Interstate Commerce Commission and Angie's List, before he took legal action. Despite my serious injuries, which the member was well aware of, I did respond to the member on June 4, 2012, informing the member that “any change to your existing roof system would be at an additional charge for any modifications or replacement.” And further informing him that, “ I spoke with Duro-Last Engineering Department today and they said the Duro-Last PVC Membrane could be painted with an acrylic latex paint, following the manufacturers recommendations concerning the surface being cleaned and primed. Duro-Last also said they would not want the edge terminations painted.” Once again on June 13, 2012, as we tried on June 4, 2012, in an effort to resolve this matter, our legal counsel sent a letter to the member, and proposed he solicit a quote from a painting contractor of his choosing to paint the membrane. If the quote is reasonable, we will consider assisting him with paying for the painting job, in exchange for removing and rescinding existing complaints, and refraining from filing other similar complaints and other defaming statements against Excellent Roofing and/or John Bennett in the future. Nearly everything listed in the member's report and complaint has been done to make myself look bad and publically defame our company to over 5000 Memphis Angie’s List members and all Midsouth BBB members who search or call to inquire about our company. The member was also very racially charged with his comments with our staff. On many occasions in my presence the member would refer to our staff as “the Mexican”, and “these people”, when we repeatedly corrected him more than 10 times, saying to the member, “He does have a name. His name is Jose”, and so on. He also said things such as, “I’m not even sure that they belong here”, and “You know I went to law school.” And several times the member would use profanity exclaiming things like, “I just wish you all would get the hell out of here.” As a minority business owner, I feel that the member was acting in a hostile manner towards our staff, especially with regards to race, and this hostility is reflected in his writing and represents the way he acted towards our company and its staff. It might also be added that all of our staff carry smart phones that have audio and video recording capabilities, as well as our office phones having recording capabilities, so I doubt the member will deny any of the previous comments he said to our staff or myself. We have forwarded all correspondence to Angie's List and the Midsouth BBB, showing where we specifically emailed the member on June 4, 2012, responding to the member's original request to resolve the issue on May 25, 2012 if the roof membrane could be painted. We offered in writing on June 4, 2012 to paint the membrane for an additional fee. The member then abandoned his original request, and escalated to demanding the membrane be replaced, or a payment of $6000 within 2 days by June 6, 2012, or he was going to follow through with his complaints with, but not limited to the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors, Tennessee Division of Consumer Affairs, Better Business Bureau of the Mid-South, Federal Trade Commission, Interstate Commerce Commission and Angie's List, before he took legal action. As of today, June 24, 2012, he has listed for two weeks a very negative Angie’s List complaint and report, as well as a 19 page complaint letter to the BBB. Although we at Excellent Roofing believe we owe the member nothing at all, we would offer two reasonable solutions to resolve the member’s request. Excellent Roofing is willing to resolve this issue based on mutual satisfaction and agreements we have listed below to resolve the issue within two weeks of the member's response: 1. Acceptance of one of two proposed options stated below: A. The member obtain a quote from a painter of his choice, and we would pay the costs associated with painting the lower roof membrane only, as he originally requested b. Excellent Roofing replace the lower roof membrane with a dark grey Duro-Last membrane, which is the darkest color made by Duro-Last, and the color currently installed at the lower roof perimeter edges. The member would also have to choose which side of the dark grey membrane he wants installed, the flat or regular side. 2. Engagement of the full and final release attached, with regards to roof taper, gutter pitch and roof color for which we have already compensated the member; 3. Removal of all current or future negative reports, personal attacks, and defaming actions from all agencies filed with. I Remain, John Bennett, Owner Excellent Roofing

They did a knock out job. They took about 2 1/2 days. The crew was very professional and top flight. They were very considerate. They did an excellent job. They have a unique electric basket to catch the shingles that were being removed. They cleaned up very well after themselves. They swept the yard several different times with magnets to make sure the nails were all picked up. The roof looks great! I would use them again for any roofing needs!
Description of Work: They completely re-did our roof. We have a duplex-type house.

I used Anglie's list to locate a roofer in my area. After reading the reviews, I contacted Mr. Kee and we set up a time for him todo the roof repairs. He was courteous and completed the job as required. The price was agreed upon before he started the workand I would hire him again.
Description of Work: Mr. Kee replaced a couple of pipe boot flashings. The job was done in a timely and professional manner and the area was clean when he left. I would hire him again when needed.

Pro's: Excellent did a wonderful job overall. They use a "yard buggy" eliminating the need for an unsightly dumpster which is typically staged in your yard for days and they do haul off what they tear off, daily. They did no damage to the bushes planted around the house and the "after job" clean up was great. Their workers do not play around, arrive/start early and everyone is constantly moving doing something. On one day, two of them stayed late working well after dark using lights. Con's: In doing any work, things happen and is understandable. When throwing the old roofing off, some slid down the face of one gable end, which is white vinyl, leaving several tar marks. Also, where a side room roof line met this gable end they had to pull the siding out to install step flashing behind the vinyl. They pulled a little too much and ripped a place in the vinyl about 6" long. During an after work walk-a-round I pointed out these two issues but two weeks later they still weren't corrected. After a few emails with the project manager I finally called Excellent leaving a message for the owner. Within an hour someone else called me and the next day both problems were resolved. So would I use Excellent again? Yes, because for the scope of the work done these were minor hiccups, corrected in the end, which shows they will stand behind their work. I did however rate them with a "C" for Responsiveness because I shouldn't have had to keep after them to correct the issues, "B" for Professionalism for the same reason, and a "B" overall because of these two ratings.
Description of Work: We had three layers of old roofing removed on a house and a stand alone garage, some rotted decking found/replaced and new roof's installed on both.

Roger is one of the most skilled professionals we have encountered. He took time, coming out to our house in the evening, to explain in detail about what we might expect for our roof replacement. The process went just about how Roger described. Roger took the time to answer all of my wife's questions and aptly managed our expectations. David was our project manager, very professional and courteous. The work crew was outstanding! They built the cricket and repaired the garage, exceeding my expectations. Excellent Roofing has one advantage over the competition. They use a Roof Buggy! This amazing device allows them to drive a hydraulic lifted container right up to the roof line. It is used to collect the old roof and then driven to a dumpster on the street. The process of tearing off our old roof was made quick, simple and clean. Our plants around the house were spared damage and our yard kept clean from roofing, nails and debris. The Roof Buggy was then used to lift new materials onto the roof in much better time than other conventional methods. I have had two other roofs replaced in my lifetime. This was by far my best experience. The new roof looks great! Thank you Excellent Roofing!!!
Description of Work: We had a three tab asphalt roof on a 3000 sq. ft. home that was leaking. The roof was approximately 18 years old and needed to be replaced. We also needed to have a cricket built on the roof to route water away from a poorly constructed valley. In addition, we needed to have some ceiling repair done in the garage. We shopped around and received six estimates. The best, most comprehensive, and surprisingly the cheapest estimate was Excellent Roofing.
