After the garage was completed, I asked him to do some work in the kitchen. I gave him the money for the materials, and he never came back. He kept giving me excuses as to why he could not come back.
Description of Work: I hired him to replace the garage ceiling and to do some countertop work in the kitchen.

Nightmare
Description of Work: Working with Steve Calhoon has been a nightmare. He gave us a quote in writing for a paint job which also included removing the tile in the kitchen. Verbally he told us he would also replace the counters for us if we bought the materials since that would not take long to do. That quote was $1850 including materials. We had a separate quote for the floors. Initially, we were going to do the floors ourselves, but Steve said that for the price we were going to pay for the laminate and carpet, he could get similar ones for much cheaper and the money we would be saving would pretty much cover the labor if we let him do that job as well. We agreed to let him do the floors as well. He asked for a deposit of $1,855 up front and was to start with the paint job. They started work a few days later. I had a funny feeling when Ace Cash Express called to see if I wrote a check out to him, wondered why he just did not deposit in his bank account if he was supposed to have all this business he really did not have time for but was willing to take on our job. On the first day of work, the two guys that he told us had been with him for 10 yrs, (which we later found out one was with him for 2 days and the other one 3 weeks), were told to paint over the border in my daughter's room which had glue from decor I had stuck to the wall. Steve said that the 2nd coat was going to cover that, even the roughness on the wall. Well it did not. You could see the border through the paint around the entire room. They had to sand it down and repaint. The 2nd bedroom was orange but Steve insisted that no primer was required and it just needed 2 coats of Sand colored paint to cover the orange. That did not work. He was calling and rushing the workers through the job. He was never there. Always having to run to to do stuff for his girlfriend or travel to Kentucky to get his daughter. He started the job on a Thursday, on Monday he had already been to Kentucky 3 times. We barely ever saw him. In the beginning he told us his guys are such hard workers that they don't even like to take a lunch. That is not true. I straight out asked them why they would not take lunch and told them they were not going to pass out in my house. They finally fessed up and said he told them they better not not take a lunch. He brought them gatorade 1 time and said, "see how I take care of my guys!" He only did that because they were forbade to take lunch or accept any drinks from us. There are lot's of things that rubbed me the wrong way. We had one of the colors lightened after he purchased it because it was too dark, the guys ran out of paint and instead of having the color scanned and matched, he bought the orignal color and told the guys to just use that even after they reminded him about it. He had them take short cuts which did not end up being short cuts after they had to go back and fix it then complained about it taking too long and having to buy more paint and having to pay the guys for another day unaccounted for. One of the days he wanted the guys to work somewhere else and not come work on our house because he landed a new customer. If you have as many people working for you as you say, why pull your guys from a job that is not finished to start another??? Finish what you start! I'm mad too! This is an incovenience as we have no living space but I want it done right! None of the tools or extra materials purchased were his. The guys had to have thier own tools and ladders. I watched them buy things out of thier own pocket to have what was needed and he did not give them the money for that. (I later asked them about it) All he bought was the paint because that was included in the quote. He brought us a couple of floor samples that were brown even though he said in the beginning that brown did not match. (Probably because he could not find dark laminate in the price range he claimed he could) He called and told the guys to start pulling up the floor when the paint job was not even done. We have no living space! That's when we decided to pull the plug. We told him to finish the paint job since the deposit completely covered the entire paint job and tile removal plus materials. He said they would finish the paint job and then that would be it; this was discussed in the evening, then in the morning the workers arrive and tell us he told them to halt all work and sent them to come get all the pain that we paid for!!! Coward waited for them at the Home Depot. Needless to say, they did not take the paint. However, the kitchen and bonus rooms were not painted even though we paid for it. We called him from a different number so he could answer and he said since we pulled out of the floor job he was pulling out of the paint job. He justifies keeping our money saying breach of contract. Yeah, it was a breach that he got paid in full for something he did not complete and then on top of that sent his guys to come pick up the paint we paid for!!!! I could go on and on. If you pull up his name on the internet including this site, every single comment is negative and he has been sued. We can't all be wrong now can we? Then he curses and goes off on his customers when you open up your eyes and decide to no longer work with him. Can't imagine how crazy he would have acted had he not been paid. So unprofessional. His guys felt like they were put on the spot and quit on him. They worked for a week 9 hrs per day and he did not pay them 1 cent. He ripped them off and us. Do not hire or go to work for this guy! In the beginning he said he had an attorney on his payroll. Have him call us Steve. We would love to speak to him and so would a lot of your other customers. By the way, you might want to look into labor laws before you get yourself in trouble.

An absolute NIGHTMARE! The worst experiencing I have ever had with a contractor. I have a rental in memphis and took advantage of the tenants' move to have the kitchen floor and half bathroom redone. My wife placed an ad on another site where Steve Calhoon, owner of Calhoon Construction, LLC contacted us to perform the job which he started on December 29 ( all work was performed by him). The work moved ahead while I was present but I had to return back home in another state for work. The house was on lock box and Mr. Calhoon stated not to worry that he would have everything finished within a week. This is where the scam started. Mr. Calhoon began to delay the work leaving the memphis area for Kentucky on several occasions (he provided a KY license when asked for ID) . He then started to send emails claiming that he needed more money to cover additional items and worked extra hours . There were duly sent. Then he called irate stating that he did not get one of the checks. I overnighted him a replacement one. He fraudulently cashed both before i had the chance to cancel one . When I tried to contact him to request the return of the extra money he cashed, he went incommunicado and never returned any calls/emails. I immediately requested a third party physical inspection of the work performed at the house and basically the results are that NO additional WORK was performed and NO additional materials were purchased for the extra money provided. When I notified him of this, he finally came out of hiding only to claim I stole his tools and stated that he will put a lien on the house if I don't return them. That is the kind of professionalism you will experience if you select him. I am now with a kitchen/bathroom half finished. The laminate flooring is not flush with the wall. There is missing base boards in the half bathroom and kitchen closets. The bathroom sink is not hooked up to the water line. The plumbing under the sink is nonexistent. Paid him $98 for splash guards that are not found anywhere in the house. The toilet is not clamped down to the floor and just sits there unusable. The upstairs bedroom is unpainted. Basically I have a house that I cannot rent until we spent more money to finish the work Steve Calhoon of Calhoon Construction LLC was paid to do. Unless you want the same experience to happen to you, DO NOT USE Steve Calhoon/Calhoon Construction LLC! BEWARE!
Description of Work: - Install a new wood laminate floor in the Kitchen and adjacent half bathroom and Laundry room. - Install new sink cabinet/sink in half bathroom. - Paint upstairs bedroom - Repair Garage door.

Steve was supposed to have fixed the roof on our motor home. He came and looked at it.said he had yrs,of experience. He wanted a deposit up front and some money for materials.he came right away to start on the motor home.after he showed up a couple of times, we ask him could he jack up our house and level it since he said he had 30 yrs experience in the construction business.he did have references, but, our mistake was not calling any of the references about him.the first couple of times he came he did ok.then it got to where he would work an hr, and leave because he had to go out of state, or he had to go get something for the job.he put the concrete pads down under our house one day while not working on the rv.he put 2 coats of roof sealer on the rv roof,we went out one night to check the roof, and there was water coming out everywhere in about 5 to 6 spots and water all in the floor,he came back the next morning and we told him.so he sad he would finish the house then he would buy rubber to do a rubber roof on the rv at his expense, since he signed a contract saying it would be guaranteed for a yr.so he started jacking up the house and jacked maybe 2 inches and came in and said that the concrete was cracking, that he needed a piece of steel to of, that he was going to get the steel and he would be back in the morning and that the last time we seen him.he got to where everyday was an excuse why he didn't show up his mom was in the hospital dying, then by some miracle she was better and having chemo.then his kids would be home or he didn't have a babysitter.so after telling us for a few weeks almost every other day he was coming we realized he wasn't.he would even tell us on the phone he would be there and couldn't figure out why we were upset.so here it is 2 months later and the rv sets under a tarp so it doesn't flood inside the motor home and our house is still setting on a jack and we are out 900.00.,we were really nice to this guy even gave him a cup of coffee every morning.i advise anyone stay far away from this man.
Description of Work: put sealer on our rv roof and flashing around all the vents.he also spackled the inside wall to prepare to be painted.also put some small concrete pads under our house to put blocks for leveling.
