Located in Memphis, TN, 1st Class Moving & Storage of Tennessee is a moving company handling local and long distance residential or commercial moves and offering storage services.
1st Class Moving (Chris Fannin) is illegally operating and using bait & switch tactics. After a terrible experience that ended in a bill that was triple the amount quoted, I attempted to locate the owner which quickly resulted in discovering that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has revoked their DOT# and ordered them to be out of service. Their insurance has also been cancelled according to the FMCSA. I contacted the US Dept. of Transportation who let me know that 1st Class Moving & Storage should 'absolutely not' be operating as a moving service for any type of moves (interstate, intrastate, in-town, etc.). I had originally requested to move a 2-3 bedroom house, and a 5x5ft storage unit 10-25 miles with approximately 50 boxes, a small wine fridge, and a few pieces of furniture. All of my beds, other appliances, and many boxes had already been moved. I was quoted $305 for two movers to take approximately three hours. This was in line with three other quotes I received. I went with this company since I had a very specific time frame to meet. Instead of two movers, Chris sent four and told them they would be moving a 1 bedroom apartment instead of a 2-3 bedroom house. The movers that showed up were extremely out of shape and already tired from other moves that day. Several times I asked the movers to speed things up which didn't help. I had to constantly monitor and reiterate what had to be moved instead of focusing on an important discussion with my realtor. While they were deliberately taking more time than they should have, they also did not appear to be physically capable of moving much faster. Since I had to be moved out by that night, I had no choice but to pitch in and help with things like emptying the garage attic of empty boxes. It ended up taking 5.5 hours to complete the move and I was sent via text message a bill for $945. I let the person who sent the bill (Chris Fannin) know that the move should have absolutely not taken 5.5 hours which kicked off an argument resulting in him threatening legal action. An ironic result since he is operating illegally to begin with. I have documentation to prove all claims and am currently waiting for my credit card company to work through the dispute I filed. I am also waiting for a call back from the Tennessee office of the FMCSA to discuss my claims. Bottom line, avoid at all costs!

I have used this company three times. Chris was very good with communication via email, and I could reach him by phone. Their prices are very good. I don't know that I would use them to move my best furniture, but for the 3 moves they did ( smaller moves) they did a good job and did not break anything. They also worked quickly, hooked up my washer and dryer. I must say they did an awesome job with organizing my things in the attic and garage to make very efficient neat use of the space.

Showed up 5 hours late for the move. They didn't have tools to disassemble the crib or beds and had to leave to buy some. Did not use any covering to protect my antiques or furniture. The did not inventory what they were moving. Arrived at the new house at 11 pm and paid Chris. While I was getting settled, noticed a rip in my antique chair, a broken outdoor table and a dent in my dryer which caused it to make a horrible noise. I fixed all because I didn't even want to talk to Chris again at this point. Then I realized the next day that my box with everything electronic- wireless printer, wifi, etc. was missing. I called Chris who confirmed they had it, but he then informed me I owed him an additional $89 for boxes he said he forgot to include on the charges when we settled up. He held my box ransom until I paid the $89. My router is still missing. Only the little stand in sat in remains.
Description of Work: Hired them to pack belonging and move all items from one house to another, 3 miles away.

Movers, old equipment, poor speech, late 2 hrs, took 9.5 hrs to get my furniture for a 3.5 hrs drive. Damaged some goods, told me I could pay with cc but then machine broke. Was not in position to pay cash. Gave cash deposit (1/3) now waiting for his cc machine to work. Now threatening to go to collections.

I purchased a four hour groupon. It was one issue after another with this company. The movers did not show at the time specified on Saturday at 1 pm. When I called Chris, the manager, he claimed that he did not have me on the schedule nor did he recall talking with me. I had to remind him of the dates we talked. Of course this was red flag number two. He said he would call me back in an hour and also offered to have the mover come out at 4pm. Needless to say that I had to call him at 3:45pm to find out where they were. This is a very long story of disappointing service. Finally, they showed up 20 minutes late Sunday morning. Despite the fact that I stated what would be moved, they did not have tools to disconnect the washer and dryer nor to disassemble the bed. They did not have the address that they were moving the funiture to. I gave them the information and watched the guy bring it up on his navigation. While they left about 15 minutes before I did, they still arrived late to my house. They claimed that they got lost; rather than saying that they stopped for lunch. The garbage fell out of the truck into my yard. We had them to simply move items and assemble very little. They were purposely and unneccessarily slow. I spoke with Chris and he refused to offer a refund and did not apologize for the exceptionally poor service. There was truly a lack of professionalism. Communication is key! Unfortunately, it was lacking during this experience.
