 + -1 moreI contacted Lamon & McDaniel Builders thru their website wanting an estimate for a new construction home. Their website says whether you want a small cottage or a large spacious home. In my contact information I said I wanted an estimate on a home between 800-1000 sq ft. Their website says they respond to all emails within 24 hours. It's been almost 2 weeks now and I still haven't heard from them. Needless to say if they contacted me now I wouldn't deal with them.

 + -1 moreGreat! Project and Project Manager exceeded all of my expectations. Attention to detail was one of the outstanding features of this contractor. Any changes to the original proposal were handled smoothly and without interruption to the completion of the room. Any defective materials were replaced without question and replacement was expedited in order to complete the project on schedule. I would recommend this contractor, without question, for renovations or new home construction.
Description of Work: Renovations to back porch. Converted screened back porch to enclosed sun room.

 + -1 moreIt was reasonable, it was several thousand lesser than other companies, we got bids before we went with them. They were always on time, they did everything, and they met the deadline we had. We had only one minor problem and they took care of it within a matter of one day, other than that we have had no problems, and it was a big job. They did a really good job. We have another job that they would probably do in another six months; we just need to finalize all the plans.
Description of Work: We used Lamon & McDaniel Builders to do an addition to our home.

 + 0 moreThings went well for a number of months, and then things began to change. I don't know if they started using new people, but the quality of the work began to suffer. It started to become apparent that their workers were not being supervised. No one was checking their work. The work would go on when we were out of town. When they were done with something, they would tell us, but when we got there, the work was not done. It would only be about 80-90% complete. We'd have to tell them to finish the work. Then, they got a plumber who began doing very unprofessional work: - Moving a drain line without instruction to do so - Installing a shower head and bath tub faucet without making sure the hot water came through - Installing a sink faucet that only had a trickle of water. (The old faucet worked just fine.) The last thing they needed to do was install some new kitchen cabinets. The cabinets were delayed, but delivered. At that point, the contractor said that they had some other big job to do and could not do the cabinet installation. It wasn't that they had to delay the installation for awhile. They said they simply wouldn't do the job. At this point, I told them that they had to at least complete the punch list of what they HAD already worked on. The project manager then failed to get those punch list items done. He would promise and promise to do the work, but it just wouldn't get done. I believe the project manager was trying to do some of those items with unqualified people, because those last items were done badly. The project manager did not respond very well when we pointed out substandard work. When they don't want to talk to you, they just simply wouldn't respond to my phone calls.
Description of Work: Lamon and McDaniel were contracted to do a lot of work, including knocking out some walls, moving doorways, installing closets, creating a new bathroom, and installing new cabinets. They were not the cheapest, nor the more expensive contractor. We chose them because they seemed to have considerable experience and stability.

Description of Work: Constructed concrete block posts and built arches to receive stacked stone on the back deck. Also installed an under deck ceiling with two fans.

 + 1 moreEverything went great. Roofing and guttering crews were there from the morning until past dark. Never have seen a harder working crew. Kept worksite very clean. Communication excellent. Everything went exactly as planned and on estimate. Estimate a little higher than other firms but one gets what they pay for: quality.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced roofing, gutters. Added frieze board under eaves.

 + 1 moreOn or about November 3,2010 we entered into a contract to build a Handicap acessable on to an existing house, we had an Architect to draw up a design with full and expilicet notes of what we wanted, they were reviewed by the contractor and we signed a contract with him after a long and methodical discussion as to completion date,method of payment, and overseeing of the project. At the beginning things went well, but then began to slack off for unknown reasons other than qualified man power or he was devoting all his time to his own home that he was refurbishing to move into. We would call to see why they were not showing up, and a promise would be made, but week to ten days would pass before one person would show up to do some little thing that often was not qualified to do. As of June 24, 2011 there are things that have not been completed (as mentioned above) We meet with his 2nd hand man on the 20th, and gave him a list of unfinished work, and he promised that he would not let me down, we'll see.
Description of Work: The construction started November 3,2010 and was to be finished by March 1,2011, and as of june 2011 we still have a punch list of 20 to 25 items that have not been completed. The contractor did not oversee his sub-contractors work as was promised when we signed the contract therefore the Archictual drawings were not followed in many areas. We got one of the worst concrete jobs i have ever seen, the concrete appears to not have been mixed proper, there are white streeks, spacers covered over, finishing irregular, and yellow spots throught the basement floor and the garage.and poor finish up to the brick walls. The Plummer ran hot and cold water pipe under the basement floresent light fixture, he failed to follow the Drawings and didn't install the utility tub in the basement, and install a outside water bib at the rear of house, Half Bath cold water faucet starts out cold and then gets warm for some time before it gets cold again, Hot water recirc must be hooked up wrong? More than 90 gallons of paint was purchased to paint 1650 sq ft, I have 27gal.that has never been open, and 9 5gals.and some 20 gals. that are half full left over. (Note: the Contractor was getting 10% pay on all materials purchased) Gutters and Downspouts, The gutters are leaking at the seems, they are as much as 1" to 2" away from the facia board, downspouts, some were not anchored to the gutter, and did not plan ahead to pipe the water under the driveway, rather on top of the driveway. They left off door seals, Light covers, door latches,A/C covers, glue on hardwood floors, spray paint on floors. Back Yard grading is so bad that you can't walk on, ridged ruts,lots of straw and no grass Their words didn't match their performance.

 + -1 moreThe stairs have been loose and the stair case a little shaky for several years. I repaired the majority of the problems here, but I wanted this done professionally. McDaniel's and Orr did a fantastic job, and did it without making a royal mess of our home. The area was partitioned off with plastic, to keep the sawdust concentrated in that area. The crew was well behaved, and the job was finished in less than two full days. If there is any other task that is beyond my skills, this is the company I plan on calling.
Description of Work: Lamon McDaniel's & Orr replaced a staircase leading to the second level of our house. The staircase is about three feet wide and twenty feet long.
