Was very impressed with his quality and professionalism. He had only a part of the remodeling project but I will use him again if the need arises in the future.
Description of Work: Joe installed our floor tile as part of a kitchen remodel. He was a sub-contractor to the firm acting as general contractor for the entire job.

We're a transplant to East TN for retirement and have been finding it exceptionally frustrating and difficult to find competent and professional service providers around the region. Joe Garafalo at Joe's Tile and Stone is an unusual exception around here and we've selected him after getting at least 5 quotes, with some even failing to provide quotes as usual... Joe is a consummate professional who is punctual, efficient, and did exactly what he promised and more. He installed my costly beautiful Italian import tiles in our sunroom and it's only fitting that he happens to be a discerning Italian craftsman who ended up being perfect for the job. I needed to have the tiles laid with very thin grout joints to imitate wood floor and he didn't hesitate shooting for thin 1/16" while other contractors denounced the challenging idea. It was very evident from the first meeting that Joe was by far the most knowledgeable and experienced tile installer compared to others who were also highly rated on Angie's list. Although his quote wasn't the least costly, the rate was competitive enough that we decided to go with him to get the job done right even with a long waiting period for the installation. When the grout shade didn't turn out exactly as the manufacturer's chart indicated, he addressed the problem at his cost with a grout colorant. He even fixed our problematic moldy grout shelf spot in our Schluter shower for free! We hope to find more professional contractors around the region like Joe, but when it comes to tiles we know exactly who to call.

Description of Work: They installed ceramic tile in a small half bath which had previously had a carpet floor. They did an excellent job with the tile. I gave them a B in professionalism because they could have done a better job of cleaning up after the work.

Joe was extremely polite and knowledgeable. He quoted us a basic back splash installation. He scheduled us very quickly to meet our timeline. Unexpectedly, in a few week's time, we put our house on the market. We canceled his scheduled service. He was great, even with the cancellation. I would highly recommend based on the customer service!

Our washing machine overflowed, flooding a sizable area of the floor including a mix of hardwood flooring and ceramic tile flooring. Among other things, this caused several of the ceramic tiles to come partially loose from the subfloor. Joe came by to give us an estimate shortly after we contacted him. Although replacing the six loosened tiles was quite a small job for his company, he agreed to do it. He indicated that his minimum charge was $200 and said that would probably cover the amount of work required to replace these tiles (we had spare tiles, so no new tiles had to be procured). Because the job was small, he would fit it in wherever he had a gap in his schedule. He worked hard to accommodate us and as it turned out he subcontracted the job to B&L Tile Works and they came to replace the tile two weeks after Joe?s initial estimate. The two workers from B&L showed up when they said they would and did an excellent job of removing the old tiles and replacing them with new ones. They had to make a trip to the store to get the appropriate grout for the tiles, so all-in-all it took them about three hours. Nevertheless they honored the $200 price commitment (plus $15 for the grout). It was a pleasure to work with both Joe and the B&L personnel, and I would certainly consider hiring Joe?s Tile and Stone for future tile work. I would also be happy to work directly with B&L Tile works as well.

Our existing shower floor was not built right initially. As a result, moisture was collecting in the mud bed and the floor tiles were lifting significantly. I talked to several tile setters, and most of them were not willing to repair just the floor. However, the walls were still solid and 8 years after the fact, the tile was discontinued, so it was fix the floor and bottom row of wall tiles (I had one box of the old tile) or re-tile the entire bathroom. The shower walls were still solid; no sign of moisture up in the walls. Joe was willing to fix it for us rather than re-tile the whole room. His price was much better than the first tile setter willing to just do the repair. While it was comparable to another estimate I got for just the repair, Joe was more professional and better qualified. One reason I decided to use him was that he is certified in the Schlueter Kerdi system, which is what I wanted to use for the new shower floor. He did have some challenges in dealing with the existing walls and a limited amount of replacement tiles, but he did a beautiful job. He matched the existing grout perfectly in color, but used a grout that would be resistant to mold and mildew. He recommended a solid top piece on the curb to avoid grout lines with water standing in them. (We had tile and grout before, which did collect dirt and mold rapidly.) The curb top has to slope very slightly into the shower to use a frameless door and to prevent water standing on it--he did it perfectly the first time. No corrections or issues, which I gather are common. He's very busy and can sometimes be hard to get in touch with as a result. We did have to schedule out about 3 weeks, I think. However, I would not hesitate to recommend him. I would rather have to wait for three weeks and have it done right! I've moved into two houses where the master shower tile failed after several years (for different reasons), and I really researched carefully before interviewing tile setters. I feel confident in saying that Joe knows what he is doing and is an excellent tile setter.

I called Joe to get a bid for installing marble in my master bath. He arrived early and made a great first impression. His bid was very reasonable for the amount of time, skill and work involved in doing this job properly. He had great ideas and suggestions on the design and layout. Joe was a pleasure to work with and was flexible with my other Subs schedules throughout the job. Joe's attention to detail was impressive as he worked like he was installing tile in his own home. I have nothing but good things to say about Joe's work, and I will be calling him back on my next tile project.

This review is not intended to warn Angie's List members away from Joe Garafalo, it only describes my personal experience. I contacted Joe the morning of 01-24-14 about doing a backsplash for my kitchen. He was very nice and I could tell that he was extremely qualified. He gave me a flat rate, so I thanked him and hung up so I could speak with other vendors. By the end of the day I had determined that he was who I wanted so I left a voicemail late that same Friday. He didn't call back on Monday, so Tuesday morning I called him back. He was very apologetic for not responding, due to some problems at one of his worksites. When it came time to schedule the work, he was busy for the next 6 weeks but he offered to call a colleague for me and have that person check his schedule and call me. Joe then assured me that no matter what he would follow up with me. Unfortunately I never received a call back.

We purchased marble tile from The Tile Shop and Joe installed it in our bathroom. He showed up the day after we called him, gave us an estimate and started the next day. He did an absolutely gorgeous job. We both are so pleased! We recommend him highly!

Joe did an exceptional job and was very professional from start to finish. I was referred to him by the Tileshop in Knoxville. He called me back immediatley, showed up when he said he would show up. It took him 2 days to complete the job, which is also what he said it would take. He was very informative on his knowledge of tiles, travertines and other materials. The pros and cons of the stones, which was very helpful. He was also instrumental in adding a little flare to the design I had in my head. It's easy to see he has done this for years and knows his business! He did a beautiful job and was very clean about it, we are very pleased. We will use him for any other tile projects, we highly rec. Joe! .

I am so pleased with the job Joe did in my kitchen! It looks like a different kitchen. He is truly an expert at laying tile! The difference in my kitchen and the job the builder had done in my bathroom are night and day. He did look at my bathroom to see if he could fix any of it. That will have to be another day. He has also quoted me a price to tile my screened in porch, which as soon as my husband and I can agree on some tile, he will do that too. Again, so happy with Joes's work. He cleaned everything also.
Description of Work: I called Joe and he came out and looked at my backsplash area and size and quoted me a price I was comfortable with. He was doing another job so he told me he would start on mine the following week. He said it would take 2 days because it is a large are to do. He arrived when he said he would and went right at it. He gave me his suggestions and he went to work.
