When they left on Saturday morning, I assumed they were finished, which they weren't but didn't come back for a week. I went outside to go to the basement and saw that my two trash cans were gone. When I got to my basement, I saw three large pieces of old foam rubber thrown in there on the floor. Since I share the laundry facilities in the basement, I checked with my two neighbors and they said the foam pieces were not theirs, so they had to be from the roofers because that's when they appeared. When I went back up around to my apartment, I checked the brand new recycling container I had, and found that they had put old roofing shingles into that, but not filled it up. A couple of days later, I found my trash cans in the back yard (of my neighbor's apartment), overflowing with used roofing materials. They were extremely heavy. My neighbor managed to move one can out to the curb on trash day last week, and they took it, but pulled one handle off the trash can. I just found out today that the driver of the garbage truck could get in serious trouble for taking those old shingles. He wouldn't take the other can today that we had finally got moved out to the curb, and I don't blame him. I didn't know they are paid by the truck load providing there's nothing in there they shouldn't take. It all ended up that I had no trash cans for my trash, possible damage to my new recycle bin (for which I would have had to pay $75 if there was damage), and stinky foam in my basement which already doesn't smell too nice because it's unfinished. And I had to dump the recycle bin myself (I have serious back problems) and sort the roofing stuff from the recycle stuff (which they had put in there - it was empty until they came around). There was one guy back today on the house across the street, so I told him he needed to take the can and all, since it was not any good now. He came back just before he left in the evening and apologized for it and said they would bring me a new trash can tomorrow. We'll see. He blamed the problem on their helper, who is no longer working for them.
