"We used this business to add asphalt on to our existing concrete driveway. The owner advised me that the asphalt would be flush with my concrete which instead they made a large uneven mound over my concrete. We now have hardened asphalt throughout the entire concrete driveway that I’ve been trying to clean off with a pressure washer. My asphalt is uneven and cracking and it’s been one week since it was poured. None of the edges are even. We had rock in the area where we wanted the asphalt poured. I originally spoke with the owner about removing it before pouring. He advised me that the rock was a good base. After the job he told my fiancé that the rock was higher then he thought. Our asphalt is now extremely high and uneven. Our vents to our basement were covered up which I had to chip out. They also created a large hole next to my outdoor hose faucet blocking any access to it. We no longer can use the faucet. When we asked him about this issue he told us to get a blow torch to heat it and level it. The owner never consulted us on this he just did it. In the past weeks I’ve sought out help to remove the asphalt. I had multiple contractors tell me I need to get the asphalt removed to avoid future issues including water issues to my foundation. D Lees workers also put large holes in my yard with their trucks and didn’t clean up. They left trash around my property and left my hose out scattered on the front lawn. My carpenter had to tell the workers to get off my porch because they were smoking next to my two year old daughter. The workers were constantly using profanity and were very unprofessional. Due to me being at work my fiancé contacted him yesterday to request a refund. He told her that he has a 5 million dollar company and our $7500 doesn’t mean anything to him. He eventually hung up on fiancé. This company has not been professional and has talked to myself and my fiancé very disrespectful. We saved up a lot of money for this service and have been taken advantage of. Per the TCA code 39-14-154 I have requested a refund and will be sending certified mail to the business address. I have also sent a complaint to the BBB. I hope the owner does the right thing as a business owner and doesn’t take advantage of family’s like this again."

My primary business is consulting on buildings that have construction defects that allow moisture intrusion, rot, mold, etc. I also work with builders on new buildings to assist in the sequencing and selection of products to prevent moisture intrusion, promote long-term building performance, ie., concrete curing, roof flashing, window and door installation, moisture barriers, basement waterproofing, etc.

Individually owned business with two employees. I do also do some sub-contracting on certain jobs. I've been in this line of work for 10 years. My business is also listed on other sites like google, thumbtack, and home advisor. I accept checks and credit cards as well as cash. I do not expect full payment up front. My rule is I get some up front and the rest can be paid in throughout the job and the rest be paid upon completion.

Concrete driveway services FAQs

Concrete can crack from general wear, improper installation, or in response to uneven support from the soil underneath. Small, thin cracks on the surface of aging concrete are usually a result of normal wear and tear, while cracks on new concrete more likely indicate a problem with installation. Larger cracks or uneven steps can signify a much more severe issue. A concrete contractor should be able to diagnose the cause and repair concrete cracks for you.

A concrete driveway lasts between 25 and 30 years, provided you maintain it correctly. Other factors that impact the lifespan of a concrete driveway include your location’s climate and the amount of wear and tear it receives. Heavier vehicles, like RVs and trucks, notoriously create more wear and tear than lighter vehicles and, therefore, might reduce the concrete driveway’s overall lifespan.

With proper maintenance, exterior concrete steps can last 25 to 50 years or more. In most cases, your steps will require some minor repairs over that time frame, including sealing surface cracks and resurfacing to keep them in good condition. Interior concrete steps should last even longer, usually between 50 and 75 years, as they don’t have to stand up to the elements.

The cost to install a concrete driveway is $4 to $15 per square foot on average. Your price heavily depends on your desired concrete finish and driveway size.

For a driveway that is 200 square feet, you can expect to pay an average cost of $1,900. For a driveway at double that size (400 square feet), the average price is closer to $3,800. Plain concrete is significantly more cost-effective, averaging $7 per square foot, whereas stained concrete averages around $19 per square foot.

The cost of resurfacing concrete is $6 per square foot on average, though that cost can range from $3 to $9 per square foot

For a driveway that is 200 square feet, you can expect to pay $600 to $1,800, and for a driveway that is 500 square feet, that cost averages $1,500 to $4,500. Resurfacing your driveway will give you the look and feel of a new surface without the hefty cost.

You may want to hire a concrete floor contractor to check out your home’s concrete surfaces or inspect your home’s foundation for minor damages that they can fix while on site. They may be able to fix cracks in your driveway or garage floor the same day they fix your concrete steps, as well. General concrete repair experts usually won’t be able to handle larger jobs, like leveling a sunken foundation, so you’ll need to hire a structural engineer for bigger projects.
