Steve was responsive and helped me fix the thermostat issue over the phone, saving me a home service expense....and he wasn’t even the installer for my HVAC unit. Thanks

Description of Work: We had Steve Thomas install a 5-ton dual fuel system in our residence and a 2-ton package unit in a second home. His workmanship and service was very good.

I liked their promptness and quality of work. They were very responsive to getting it right the first time. After the rebates they were offering as well as the energy rebate, the price ended up being about $2800. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.
Description of Work: I used Thomas Heating & Cooling to install a new heating and air conditioning gas unit for me.

Although the unit installed was sufficient for the size of the home, neither the cooling or the heating in this 2-zone home was adequate for the bonus room over the garage. As it turned out, the supply duct was insufficient. He used a 16-inch flex duct for 4 tons of air. It requires an 18-inch duct. Also, he provided no square to round transitions for the back of the unit to transition to the ducts - either the supply or the return. As a result, the 16-inch flex duct supply kept coming off of the unit and consequently heated and cooled my crawl space. Wherever he could use flex duct, he used it. Also, he used 10-inch flex duct to run from one end of the home to the other end, for the bonus room - except the hard pipe going from the crawl space to the attic. He also used a 10-inch flex duct from the bonus room for the return, which came to the top of a 24-inch X 24-inch box for the main floor (zone 1) return. This return was connected to an 18-inch flex duct to the back of the unit. Because greater airflow came from the main floor, the return from the bonus room was greatly reduced. Other HVAC contractors asked why a static pressure return wasn't installed. This would alleviate any over-pressure if the smaller zone with the 10-inch duct called for air, but the larger zone didn't. Some of the flex runs in the crawl space went for over 20 feet and had several twists and bends in them. This greatly reduced the airflow to the registers. When I called him, he almost NEVER answered my calls. I left several messages, but he almost NEVER responded. It would take days or weeks for him to return my call - if he ever did. He finally came to my house on three occasions to address the heating and cooling complaints, but his "fixes" never fixed anything. Recently, he maintained that a 16-inch duct will work as the main supply coming from a 4-ton, 16-seer, unit. But, I've had at least three other HVAC guys tell me that it requires at least a 17-inch duct. And since they don't make 17-inch duct, an 18-inch duct is required. The other HVAC contractors have said that, rather than having a 2-zone system, they would have recommended a split system - one for the main floor and another one for the bonus room. I would never recommend this guy to anyone.
Description of Work: This company installed the original HVAC unit and ductwork for a new home under construction.
