He was easy to work with and professional in the very beginning. But did not finish his work and stop working in the middle of December. I got him to come back and finish some of the work but not all of it. Because I had paid him in full by December, that took him 2 months to come back after getting paid. He did not finish some of the work. His communication in returning my phone calls now, is bad. The last thing is, he did take some of the items that did not belong to him and did not return them. And when I get to make him come back in February, it's just because I told him I'd sue him and see him on court. I guess that's the only reason why he did came back

Owner was very knowledgeable, very nice and cares. I appreciate his great quality work as well as his new ideas. Frank is a hard worker and aims to please. I highly recommend A Step Above Construction for your handyman services!

Frank arrived on time and exceeded my expectations with the speed and quality of the work he did. I had a variety of small projects from painting, lighting and plumbing leak fixes to replacing spot lights. He completed the job in half the expected time. I highly recommend Frank and A Step Above Construction and will be using their services in the future.

Initial work was good however there were a couple of issues. That was in November of 2021. It is May of 2022 and the contractor, Frank Lupo, has promised to call/come out multiple times and failed to show up. Left multiple messages and never heard back at all. Not only that, but on the no-shows, didn't even follow up the next day or any day to explain why or apologize. He finally showed up 2 weeks ago and still didn't have everything he needed to correct some issues. Scheduled to return last Tuesday to complete those issues. Never heard back from him. Called him this morning. He texted at 8:34 am saying, "I will call you in a minute." -- it is now 3:53 pm. No call. No text. Sorry, I cannot recommend someone this unreliable.

Frank and his workmate did an excellent job installing stone veneer and shiplap and exterior posts. Very professional. Very personable. Trust worthy. Man of integrity. Showed up on time and did what he said he would do each time. Followed through on agreed work. Will definitely use again.

I hired Frank to fix a bunch of little things at my new home. I chose him over others because he said he could do all of it in 4 days or less at a low daily rate of $225. He also really sold the quality of his work and attention to detail and honesty... I signed some "contract" stating the work that would be completed for not more than $1,000. I'm not sure what the point of that was (never even got a copy), because it didn't really work out that way. It ended up at $1500 in labor and 6 days. The work did get done in the end, and a lot of it was done nicely. He seems to be skilled. But there were things that made the experience a hassle and made me not trust this contractor or want to deal with him again: 1. Even though I had emailed him lists of the tasks to be done (he even requested I do so), he still would “forget” things and at one point said “I think we’re done. If you notice anything we forgot, let us know.” And of course, there were plenty of things not done or not done with care, so I had to ask for those to be fixed/completed. He put it on me to hold him accountable, and that made me feel like he might be hoping I wouldn’t notice things or would let it go. It was stressful to feel like I had to manage him, when really, he should know what needs to be done because I wrote it out and we went over it verbally too. 2. At one point he said that there would be extra materials needed for the toilet so he asked me to send him $130 on Venmo so he could buy the supplies for that the next day. Next day, he told me I owed him $130 more for materials and that he had deducted the materials for the toilet. Good thing I decided to wait until I got home and read the receipt before I paid him, because he had crossed less than $50 of materials off the receipt. So I just paid him the total minus 130. He had overcharged about $75 and I wondered if that was intentional. 3. On what was supposed to the final day, it was clear that he wasn’t going to have time to do everything we had initially agreed on and laid out in the contract. There was a complication with the roof, and he proposed a project for it which honestly seemed like a good thing to do. But it was $500, over twice his daily rate, so I was hesitant. He said he would come back for the roof and throw in the shed labor (one of the things in the contract that was supposed to be done in 4 days) for free. Well, it looked like the roof took less than a couple hours for them to do and the rest of the time (that day and the next) was spent on the shed and also finishing other things that were in the contract. So really I feel like that roof project allowed him to get paid for 2 more days of labor and provide time to finish things on the contract, and then he could tell me I was getting that labor for free. Those were things that made me uneasy and made me question if I was getting taken advantage of… It went over time and budget maybe because he overpromised things in the beginning. That list DID get done in the end and most things seemed to be done well, but it was a hassle I don't wish to experience again. I will try someone else next time.

I have paid A Step Above/Frank Lupo 16,000 for a very simple (no bathroom, no bar, no fancy stuff, painted concrete floor in basement) basement and laundry remodel. Work started 1st week in January and is not yet complete (currently April 27). He has had very few guys working on my project, and those who do work come in maybe 3 days per week if I am lucky, and work 9 - 2:30, getting very little work done. He has sent many contracts and I have signed and paid all but one (for $500) to the tune of $16,000. I am missing a laundry room wall, a basement ceiling, the LVP flooring in the laundry area is uneven over the sump pump, there is junk in my backyard that they left there all winter to get snowed on, I paid for a cabinet in my laundry room and an entry nook at the top of the basement stairs which are still not complete. The light fixtures in the ceilings that I do have, are not finished. I get the feeling that some of these things that are yet unfinished, are unfinished because he does not know how to accomplish them and does not have the staff/certifications/permits to do so. He does not oversee the work being done (and is currently in Tennessee when this Job is in upstate, New York). He has all but stopped returning my phone calls, and responds with rare text messages with several excuses about his workers and other jobs, and sick family members, etc. I don't even believe that any of that is true anymore. He is a liar and full of excuses. Now I will need to find someone else to complete the work that he has not finished (and likely also re-do things that were done incorrectly.

Amazing, I just moved to Tennessee and I had a random and overhelming number of tasks--assembling two bookcases, attaching a mirror to my dressing table, diagnosing and fixing the problem with my bed frame, and putting together my daughter's new desk. The last was the hardest task because that desk had (no exaggeration) five milloin pieces and I surely would have tossed the pieces if I had tried to build it myself. Charmae

Frank is a True professional. He gets in and gets the Job done. I enjoyed how he spoke to me about all the work needing to be done. He kept me included through the whole process. A Step Above Construction is definitely the way to go, if you need some real work done don't hesitate make the call..

Exterior Painting

Stay far away from this contractor. He is a smooth talker who will convince you that he knows what he is doing, but he is completely incapable. He continuously told me that he needed more money to keep his employees working. Gave me sob story after sob story about his children, his workers quitting on him, etc. Then after receiving over $35000 from me he walks out on the job leaving me with not one contract complete. He messed with my electricity upstairs and now it is not working. Ruined the plumbing in my upstairs bathroom by not installing the faucet for the bath in the correct order, and that’s just the beginning. Not one job was finished or done correctly. Every thing he touches turns into another problem. I have to hire people to come and fix the mess he made, but now I have to repurchase the materials I already paid for in the contract because he took those with him as well. He has the worse workmanship I have ever seen. He is never present to direct his workers. He will take your money and leave. He is a compulsive liar. I have soooo many pictures and text messages as proof of his poor workmanship and his lies as well. Be very careful.
