When our washing machine recently quit working, my wife looked in the White Pages for a repair service. She thought she was calling Sears, because there was a large listing for "Sears Appliance Independent Repair". This listing was right above the Sears store listing and was obviously trying to lure unsuspecting customers into thinking they were calling the real Sears. Turns out, this company appears to be one individual, John Sparks, who has an appliance repair business. He came out to fix our machine and replaced the valve inside the machine which connects to the water lines, which he said was clogged with sediment. The machine worked for a day or two, then quit again. We tried to get John to come back, and for three days, he kept telling my wife he was coming, so she waited at the house for several hours each day but he never showed up. When he finally came on the third or fourth day, he opened the machine, tapped on the valve and pronounced it fixed. It quit working again before he got out the door. My wife chased him down, he walked back in, tapped on the valve some more and told her it was fixed. It worked for a day or two, then quit again. So I called John and asked him to come back out. I was very firm with him that I wanted him to show up on time, and that I expected a refund if he couldn't fix the machine to our satisfaction. John accused me of threatening him and hung up on me. Despite this, I called him back and arranged for him to come to the house the next day to fix the machine. He didn't show up and we haven't heard from him since. We subsequently hired another repairman, who discovered that the water hoses from the wall to the machine were filled with sediment. He replaced those hoses, flushed everything out and the machine works fine. And he told us that the valve inside the machine was never the problem and could have been flushed out instead of being replaced. So, as far as we are concerned, we were ripped off completely by John Sparks. He was totally unreliable and completely unprofessional. Furthermore, it is a travesty that he can and does play off the good name of Sears to attract customers via the telephone book.
