Smoky Mt. did everything they said they would. I have never given all A's, there's always something that could be improved. But the Carpenters arrived on time everyday, went about their work with never a complaint, nor any foul language. My home is a unique Clinker Brick that posed problems like obtaining a straight edge. But they cleverly worked it out. When we had concerns we hadn't thought out in the beginning, they helped us out then as well. From the minute Nick knocked on the door to the last nail hammered by Flip, there was nothing but quality, professionalism and respect. This is how a homeowner should feel after a big job has been performed. We absolutely love the deck and the enclosed room below. Thank you men for your fine work.

Nick and Whitney makes a fantastic dream team! It's exceptionally difficult to get competent professional and licensed/bonded contractors in East TN. I ended up speaking to Nick after getting my deck work estimates by many other highly rated contractors in the area. I've designed a new larger layout for my non-rotting PVC deck and already had in mind what I wanted to get done with the costly materials. However, while speaking with Nick, I quickly realized that he really knew his stuff and exceptionally proficient in designs, so I changed my deck plan to his suggestions. As to many weeks of labor timeline and ridiculously expensive quotes by other older contractors who were trying to retire on us, Whiney's (a team leader) crew showed up and demolished our old deck and started putting up new deck frames within a day, only to complete the job in a matter of few days! They specialize in decks so they have efficiency built-in their momentum - real professionals. The relatively young crew bicker and yell at each other a lot while bustling about, but in a good way like an inherent QA. I noticed Whitney had a few of his crew redo something before I even had a chance to notice a problem. While seeing them at work, I requested for a quote to add waterproofing underneath the deck seeing that they were running early on the quoted deadline. I was going to add waterproofing for a covered porch by other contractors who specialize in it, but Nick's team was able to come up with a much more aesthetically pleasing design using PVC soffit material that matches my sidings at less cost, installed literally within a day. I am extremely pleased with the entire crew, and it was a real joy dealing with both Nick & Whitney.

We weren’t exactly sure what we wanted but with help from Nick, we came up with several ideas which exceeded our dreams. We picked the most stunning design Nick came up with. Fortress Deck with a front bow and impressive inlay Western Red Cedar curved rails Bar area next to grill for convenience The guys were friendly, professional and at the end of each day, they cleaned up the work area very nicely. It was obvious that each one of them took pride in their work. Attention to detail was the utmost importance to them as well. They were not just “building a deck” they were “creating a dream deck and design” we would enjoy for many years. The end result was a beautiful deck they were all very proud of, as well they should be. This is the company you want to build your deck! The Smoky Mountain crew totally removed my old sub-standard deck and replaced it with a work of art. I was not really sure of what I wanted, so Nick drafted several estimates based on size and configuration to help me decide. The work began within about a week and was completed in approximately 3 days. Everyone on the crew was polite, professional, hard-working, and efficient. Nick showed up within 24 hours of when I first reached out to him. He was prompt and courteous throughout the entire project. Nick did an excellent job of listening to my concerns and thoughts about my old wooden deck. Additionally, I had an old hot tub that needed to be removed. Finally, the deck was in a state of disrepair and I had concerns about it's overall safety. Returned my initial call the same day it was made and was on time for the appointment. Nick said the fence would be built in a day and it was. There were no tools or supplies left behind and they left my yard looking as neat as they found it.

Nick and his crew have worked on several projects for us over the past year a half. They delivered a top of the line aluminum deck with a gorgeous patio below. They have also rebuilt our dock, adding custom gates and overhangs for fishing. We have been extremely satisfied with the process and the end result. Our backyard....where to start? We not only had the perplexing challenge of addressing multiple coinciding problems in our backyard, we had also grown to utterly despise it. A six decades-old trash heap was concealed by the developers by pushing dirt over it and forming an impassable ravine-like drop-off. Then this was concealed by an eyesore of a fence which visually cut off access and enjoyment to two-thirds of our property. The value of our property was significantly compromised as a result. Our neighbor’s house was on the market for over 8 months due to the similar lack of access to their backyard (per realtor feedback). We didn’t want to have this hanging over our heads, as we tend to relocate with typical corporate American regularity. The team from Smoky Mountain Deck Builders were able to come in and offer several options to solve this Gordian knot. A deck that extended over and concealed our trash clean up site, also extended our available upper backyard space. Stairs descending 15 feet granted access and enjoyment to the entirety of our property. They were able to come up with a plan to provide a stable structure despite the highly questionable integrity of the ravine. The county inspectors’ input and mutual respect from a long standing relationship with our builders, was instrumental in assuring the safety of our deck. Prior to the building portion of our backyard rehab effort, very few passers-by appreciated the disarray as they drove along the back end of our property. We had been working for several months to clean up the garbage and prepare for the improvement phase. Now we enjoy a good chuckle at the frequent slow-downs as people are rubbernecking at such a gorgeous centerpiece to the backyard. Oversized curved cedar deck with black aluminum railings, herringbone pattern that opens up and visually widens the backyard even more than it already is. Nick's team demolished the old deck professionally with excellent housekeeping and clean-up as they went. Each day, the project area was cleaned and all materials left on-site were tidy/presentable. This allowed us to still use some backyard facilities without fear of loose nails, boards, etc. The foundation of the deck took awhile to dig post holes, pour concrete, etc. In the end, the deck is very steady, very secure, but took very little additional "foot print" in my backyard to make the project work to building code and our satisfaction. Finally, once the deck was framed, Nick's team quickly finished the main deck floor, hand rails, and added attention to detail without rushing the completion of the project. The deck gate was adjusted expertly and final trim installed. The "ownership" in this project was such that the project wasn't done until it was 100% done. Overall, I cannot recommend Nick's team highly enough for your next quality deck project.
